	4:25pm StringOFperils: I've always admired Reg's innovative way of making the piano into the instrument around which to build a rock unit. It wasn't until just a few years ago when he dragged Leon Russell back into the limelight for a bit that I could see and hear one of his main artistic models...because Elton isn't like Little Richard or Jerry Lee Lewis...there is American gospel in there tho....I'm rambling because I'm enthusiastic about piano in rock arranging, where it's much more than an afterthought. This early material is always astonishing to me.

	5:28pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000: Goedenavond Paper Kosmonaut, you know what I thought the same thing re:Gainsbourg & Madman Across The Water when I was outdoors with this show as the soundtrack. Those strings indeed. I checked, turns out Melody Nelson was out already in March 1971 and they were still recording Madman Across The Water in August that year. So.... maybe somebody was listening while writing the arrangements.

As a teenager, I pretty much kept quiet about liking his music because it was just so uncool back then to like him that much. In fact, it was the girls who were the biggest fans, in my group. And there have been many a cringeworthy moment (Candle in the Wind being one of them). I did see him live in 74, so all in all, I've been an lifelong admirer. But, please, don't tell anyone.

It wasn't until just a few years ago when he dragged Leon Russell back into the limelight for a bit that I could see and hear one of his main artistic models...because Elton isn't like Little Richard or Jerry Lee Lewis...there is American gospel in there tho....I'm rambling because I'm enthusiastic about piano in rock arranging, where it's much more than an afterthought. This early material is always astonishing to me.

Those strings indeed. I checked, turns out Melody Nelson was out already in March 1971 and they were still recording Madman Across The Water in August that year. So.... maybe somebody was listening while writing the arrangements.

As a teenager, I pretty much kept quiet about liking his music because it was just so uncool back then to like him that much. In fact, it was the girls who were the biggest fans, in my group. And there have been many a cringeworthy moment (Candle in the Wind being one of them). I did see him live in 74, so all in all, I've been an lifelong admirer. But, please, don't tell anyone.
