Hi Kim and Greasers! Other than allergies, I haven't gotten sick either, Kim.

We eat very well in this house. Lots of southern Italian, latin, middle eastern and curries. I am a cooker and eater of tiny plates - I was raised this way and I grow and can most of our produce.

Hey Chresti! Welcome.

Man - that vaccine clicked in like a fucking switch - on time. 22 hours... bam - warmed over dog shit; 36 hours bam - feel just fine.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:13pm

No vaccine for me yet, my partner got his first shot last week.

It's late for that sort of thing, didn't mean now. Probably stressful, and I'm sure the show is planned (but maybe a belated next week...)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:02pm
StringOFperils:

Somebody at WFMU must be assembling a show devoted to Henry Threadgill....I think I was only half aware of his passing. AIR, alone, would have been worth a memorial, let alone all of the other things Threadgill created.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:04pm

His birthday, ....jeez

Ridgewood Radio, I think.

@Kim; I'm a trained French Horn/coronet/trumpet player. For my ambient/jazz performances, I used to play the instrument in a bin of water, and have a pick-up mic run through an echoplex, where one of my band partners would run it through his laptop live.
Avatar 🥁 8:35pm
northguineahills:

Unfortunately, no brass instruments w/ me these days, my coronet lost it's spit valve, and I can't afford to fix it.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 8:36pm
KimSorise:

Oh wow! I was just a marching, symphony and jazz band kid that quit because I didn't want to play in ska bands in the late 80s -early 90s.
  8:40pm
CC:

That must have made some kind of unusual bubbling type of noise...eh NGH???...:)
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 8:42pm
KimSorise:

I bet it would be for sure @CC
Avatar 🥁 8:42pm
northguineahills:

Funny, I didn't get ska, until I found dub reggae, which led to rocksteady, reggae, and Jamaican and British ska. Then, I found some American ska bands weren't so bad (I was friends w/ someone in a 'welll known' American band. But I didn't appreciate them at the time.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 8:44pm
WR:

hi Kim and Global Greasers. have been listening and enjoying. thanks for a great program.
Avatar 🥁 8:44pm
northguineahills:

@CC: Before the fx, definitely. I got the idea while practicing while cooking. One idea led to another. (I was inspired by Ben Neil's snd, which was done completely by computer fx).
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 8:45pm
KimSorise:

Right - I did not get it and was terrified of being on stage improvising. I was too "trained" - It broke my heart, but I found radio not too long after. I play a bit now - but it's awful.
Avatar 🥁 8:48pm
northguineahills:

I'm so out of practice now, I have no embouchure. The last decade I most did what I described as post-fluxus sounds w/ my band and friends...
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 8:50pm
KimSorise:

haha - I can appreciate that.
I am shocked I can still get consistent tone at all. I was good but better behind the scenes
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 8:50pm

Welcome WR!

Feeling light as a feather now!!!...:)
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 8:51pm

Didn't really know Ska much (aside from the occasional tune that made it here, like My Boy Lollipop) until the Brits went in big time for it in the 80s (The Special, etc), which I really got into.
(Would have loved to play in any decent band, frustrated former campfire guitar player)
Avatar 🥁 8:54pm
northguineahills:

I didn't get into ska until the late 2000s, it was a long journey....
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 8:54pm

Almost over, went fast, great show, thanks, Kim!
Avatar 8:55pm
HyperDose:

I started listening to 3rd wave ska in the mid 90's after discovering the Punk-O-Rama compilations at my local library. Then my dad informed me that ska predated reggae, and showed me a bunch of records. Blew my mind.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 8:56pm
doctorjazz:

The Specials, English Beat, Madness, really got into that genre.
