A three-hour exploration of excavations from the farthest reaches of humanity's hellish collective brain, through records, tapes, CDs, mostly scoured from country bumpkin thrift stores, creepy charity shops, backwoods junk stores, and even the internet - all mixed live. We don't judge, we just play 'em. Hosted by Rich in Washington.

I'm sort of obsessed with the idea of bands that performed but maybe never recorded or only appeared on comps.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:18pm
Rich in Washington:

Here's the Discogs entry for this comp: www.discogs.com...
Avatar 9:21pm
Mr Fab:

I also remember Drowning Pool, 3D Picnic, and Death Ride 69 (and saw a live performance/bought a cassette from their master percussionist Linda LaSabre) but none of them were very famous. I just vaguely remember them cuz they used to pay around LA fairly frequently. Def digging for obscurities here Rich.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:21pm
Rich in Washington:

I also have a soft spot in my heart for comps because I would often buy them as a youngster to try to broaden my musical horizons, little knowing that most label comps usually contained some very similar sounding bands.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:21pm
ultradamno:

Did AKA (from the Who Cares comp) play out? One of them was evidently in a band called Radio Head with China White connections, never heard of them elsewhere, but always remembered those tracks www.discogs.com...

Avatar 9:28pm
Mr Fab:

I do not recall a band called AKA playing. But I don’t remember everything.

Yeah, this is cool, cuz this stuff is from the era after I turned 21 and could finally go to those cool clubs that big kids like Franco went to.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:29pm

The late 80s/early 90s were sort of a lost time for me. So many bands went by. I had sort of given up going to shows and even collecting records. Parenthood, shit jobs, insanity, etc.

Plus things in LA were going haywire with crack, gangs, the Rodney King riots. I was living a loose life, free of most responsibilities. I have a weird sort of nostalgia for that insane pre-gentrification, pre-internet era.

There's a clip online of Lydia and Joe Rogan yelling at one another at The Comedy Store (does that guy's non podcast time entirely consist of comedy club shouting matches?) on you tube that's pretty funny. The comments are entirely his people and a lot "who is this woman who does she think she is"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:15pm

I remember seeing that clip years ago "Joe debates some feminist". Yeah, I can't stand that guy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:17pm

Isn't that how he ingratiated himself into the comedy world? Just calling people out on shit. I remember seeing his standup many years ago and thought he just aped people like Bill Hicks and (gawd) that guy who sang the I'm an asshole song who's name I can't remember.

but it's funny. So many comedians say it happens, and so many have found themselves accidentally ripping other comedians off. It's like Rogan just sort of made a rep for himself by calling it out all the time. I just don't think he's funny at all. He's also slowly morphing into Alex Jones.

@cp A lot of his stuff was fantastic. I like him. He could also be so unhinged onstage to make Henry Rollins look button down, which I admire perhaps most of all. But he definitely took some misguided turns, not as much as the other screamer guy from Texas, but still...

That must have been awful, chresti! Coincidentally, I heard what I believe was a neighbor's phone while I was in the kitchen about an hour ago. It sounded like a landline rather than a cell, which is unusual these days!
Goodnight, Otis!

I think the worst is having to work near someone who insists on doing all their calls on speakerphone for no reason, including them doing the dialing.

I remember when as a kid and when I became a somewhat social teenager and then dating, nothing could provoke more anxiety or excitement than the telephone. It just ruled our lives once upon a time.
