"I listened yesterday. It's no reflection on you but I could'nt see where you were going or what you were going for. This early seventies thing did'nt get noticed the first time and you talk about friends of like Dealney and Bonnie who had records out like we're supposed to remember who they are. Then you play this long winded free jazz stuff that really grates on my nerves. And that noise without a beat and sounds like someones being pinched. Then you play a reggae song, I think you called it Dub, to what, be cool? You seem to really fetishize the whole folk thing too which is obnoxious to us who don't even care. I liked it when you played that punk song though. I like Joe Belock a lot." (Visit homepage.)

Does anyone else remember those Choose Your Own Jazz books? My favorite was that one where you are confronted with three doors: one labeled "Miles, etc." (but it's crossed out--what does that mean?), a second labeled "not jazz," and a third with no sign on the door at all. You have to choose one. But (SPOILER) all three led to a Marty Robbins concert. Like not a description of a Marty Robbins concert, but an actual Marty Robbins concert. Robbins does some jazz standards in the show, sure, but then there was no way out of that book once you picked one of those doors. I am in that book right now.

OK, I FOUND the conversation I had with the guy. His avatar is a TR3 and I will not divulge his real name, but I WILL reprint this for you historians. He asserts Vin Scelsa played entire Rotary Connection Album..."Vin Scelsa's first broadcast included broadcasting Rotary Connection's first album, "Rotary Connection" in its entirety and I happened to have tuned into the station by sheer happenstance. That's when I got hooked onto the station. Sixteen years later, a guy in Brooklyn was scanning HIS radio dial looking for something different, and stopped when he heard the first Rotary Connection album playing in its entirety. The station is WFMU and the Brooklynite became DJ Stan. In other words, both dj Stan and I had the exact same 1st experience with WFMU. I heard FMU play it when the album was just released in '67 and Stan heard FMU play it 16 years later. I think that story is spectacularly amazing, like too amazing, like unbelievable! But that's what Stan told me and that's what I remember hearing back when I was 14 years old."
