Favoriting Hinky Dinky Time with Uncle Michael: Playlist from March 3, 2023 Favoriting

Uncle Michael's avatar View Uncle Michael's profile Favoriting

Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

I don't often listen to demos, but I do love songs that have tons of demos/variations out there. Always fun to listen to the changes. It is not a demo but I have a friend who is pretty convinced "Billy the Mountain" is magic because everytime he listens to it he hears a new thing - partly because there's like 4ish slightly differentr versions floating around out there at least I know of.

I think the two official recordings are "Just Another Band from L.A" and "Playground Psychotics" both live with Flo and Eddy. I think there is a recording of it from a later release life at the Filmore - then there is at least one bootleg recording I've heard which someone has put up on youtube which is way longer than the others and has a lot more banter and blends a lot of different stuff together. I am sure there are others and I may have even heard them.

Always thot - if you didn't get that Punk &/or Lydon were not about always agreeing with so & so's position - you indeed did not get it. Not about pledging allegiance...
Even so - surprised how much I embraced the piSToLs without really having any idea what they were saying... 'Anarchy' was just a good rhyme he said later. Whatever. I agree with him one moment - & very much not the next. Whatever. Makes some relevant Musics & I'll tend to care more...

I develop a lot of training in my job, and trainings like sexual harassment are some of the toughest to design (full disclosure, the last one I worked on was decades ago). There are people who can justifiably be triggered, and the meat of the topic is so sensitive that developing role plays is out of the question. For that matter, it's difficult to even include illustrative examples, so there's not a lot left to work with. You can't control what people will say in group discussions, so you have to be selective about how you construct them. The classes tend to be boring because the things that you can do with other topics to engage people and make the class fun are kind of off the table.

All makes unfortunate sense. If some in the field can find routes to get the right attention and achieve some shifts even with those impediments and cautions, good on 'em. But that's a tough web of watch-outs, and I imagine inadvertent missteps could lead not just to pullback by supervisors or pushback from clients but could get to full shitstorms, legal and otherwise.

Vivid flashback! My unit in the hinterlands of South Vietnam in 1971 received multi-reel films of "recent" vintage that were delivered twice a week by an Air America single prop plane that was probably also running heroin all over Southeast Asia for the CIA. Oh, the horror! Nonetheless, I remember getting to watch this strange, psychedelic movie called "Zabriskie Point" that featured, among other soundtrack bits, some cool Pink Floyd music. The funny thing was that the three reels were a tad beat up and misnumbered. Our projectionist was showing these flicks on a "large" bedsheet and we got a short intermission between reels. The fact is that this film was so "trippy" and hard to follow that it didn't matter if the reels were played in the correct order or not. "Dark Side of the Moon," by the way, turned 50 this week, for those who were sentient back in '73.
