I do enjoy his work with standards. Somehow, they shed light on the original works. I have a harder time with his piano work, but I dig the Tristano tribute.

Doc, I saw Weather Report in 1974 right after Mysterious Traveller came out. They were louder than any rock band I had ever seen. Wayne Shorter was front and center peeling the paint off the ceiling of the Santa Monica Civic. I got the impression they said to themselves 'Hold on to your seats kiddies and prepare to bleed from your ears.'
