Vocal Polyphony from the Republic of Georgia with Jodi Hewat

Hear this show now: Pop-up listen Pop-up player!

In the first 100 minutes of the show: Jodi Hewat of New York's Center for Traditional Music and Dance presents an introduction to the great tradition of vocal polyphony in the Republic of Georgia (former Soviet Union).

Jodi plays recorded examples and gives us background and context, and she talks about her experiences as a musical traveller. She experienced the music firsthand and even performed herself in Georgia during the summer of 2004.

And in the final hour-plus of the show, a vocal-centric mixed bag.
