For those who don't know, he was just starting to get settled after a move to Denver when an explosion destroyed his apartment and everything he had with him was lost.

It's the worst in the US, and if you are not in a major city, it's an even bigger PITA. As opposed to Estonia where you can pretty much do anything online as long as you have your equivalent of a Social Security number. Including voting. Can you imagine if the US allowed online voting? Everyday people being able to vote with their PHONE?

when i voted in nyc for the first time 2000, I didn't know what how to use the lever, and messed up my vote. I had to go the brooklyn courthouse, stick around all day to see a judge, just so I could vote again and get it correct. In all the times i voted in FL before (94, 96, 98), they used a marker that can be read w/ a scanner.

our entire family is vaccinated -- my oldest didn't want to get one but we told him if he wants to visit with his 93 year old grandmother he had to get one, so he consented. My youngest got the original vaccine and all the boosters and he currently is home with Covid for the third time, so I guess he's one of those outliers on the effectiveness

Exactly the point-the vaccine isn't 100% effective (I've had who knows how many boosters, got COVID last October from close contact with a family member). It's like the flu vaccine-a good percentage of people won't catch the virus at all, but a decent percent (about 30% for the flu vaccine, don't think there's a statistic for the COVID vaccine) will still catch it, but the illness is much milder that it would have been without the vaccine. When an updated version comes out (said to be October), I'll get another booster as well.

The first two times my son got Covid he was still living here with us. Neither my wife nor I tested positive either time, and we saw the day before he fell ill this time. We're a big hugger family, so the fact that my bride and I didn't get ill is kind of a testament to the vaccine. I've pointed that fact out to my son, and hinted that it may serve as evidence that he was actually adopted.

In 1996, I went to the only arena concerts ever, in a college basketball arena. Smashing Pumpkins (w/ the Frogs), and the Cure (two seperate shows). 1995 I saw the Dead in Raymond James Stadium. And, those are the only large venues I've ever witnessed a concert.
