Sorry I can't stay for the show, though maybe I'll catch the end.
I heard Rivers once, when I was in college and just finding out about jazz. It was impressive, but a lot of it went over my head. I would really like to re-hear that concert and see how I react now.
That was one of my first jazz albums-a jazz afficianado I worked with at the time, took me to J&R Music World, downtown NYC, had me hold my arms out and selected a pile of albums for me to buy. Was a good shop...
love that! so this must be that original LP? i remember J & R.
when i was in college, Duane Eubanks worked at the jazz section at tower records on 4th street. talk about being taken to school. he was so helpful and friendly to a couple youngins just starting to get deeper into jazz
I spent a lot of time at that Tower jazz section as well. Could find lots of stuff.
The J&R shop woulda been aroune 1979-1980. I just dug it out, blue label, so it's a reissue.
Bass, Cello – Dave Holland
Drums, Percussion – Thurman Barker
Tenor Saxophone, Soprano Saxophone, Flute, Piano, Composed By – Sam Rivers
Tuba – Joe Daley
so, my bus was delayed by greyhound by 3 hours. then, it w/o warning, it was then only delayed by 10 mins... so, i missed it. this is why i don't travel by bus (it's so much easier in mexico)
Welcome bobob and coelacantho.
It is Mr River's birthday. he would have been 100 today

I'm pretty sure Knitting Factory were the reliable re-issuers. Cadence magazine raved about the release.
Discogs shows the CD box, 5 LPs on 3 CDs:

Speaking of Oliver Lake and lofts, fast forward to the '00s, when I saw him at Phil Gelb's flat in Oakland. Concert, dinner, wine for 20 lucky attendees.
Didn't get to Johahn Sebastion Bach, but I did get to see John Sebastion do a set with the Jim Kweskin Jug Band (with Geoff and Maria Mouldaur). Was very cool!

I always wished there was more use of the tuba.

Big fan of tuba bass, Arthur Blythe did great things with it.
