If no one's around you might have to drop a euro to turn on the light but otherwise it's just there. I was fortunate to come to Rome back in the 80s and through a friend from NY connected with a half-expat couple, the somewhat older Roman half would send me to this or that church to site. I slept on their couch for two weeks it was really a time and definitely influenced my life after that.
