The Radio Is Broken is a three-hour spelunk through the canyons and fissures of humanity's collective unconscious. It sounds as if a field recording of the Culture Industry were a sonic juggernaut barreling down a rickety track—except that tunnel ahead is just painted onto a sheer cliff wall. With occasional forays into what might pass for "normal" music. Prerequisite journey: Cratedigger's Lung

We are the citizens of a capitalism whose every day existence is spent in an endless orgy of self-butchering, self-cooking, self-serving self-consumption and self-immolation”. re post vintage 1970s Wire, I was so thrown by the new transitional sound of Wire 2.0 i wasn’t satisfied until years later as I kept plugging away with each new album. I believe, my ears finally adjusted to their inevitable changes. So it all sounds pretty darn ok by nowadays standards. Still, Nuttin beats-out ‘pink flag’ & ‘chairs missing’ (my fave). Bell/Cup is a worthy spin.

My intro to Escalator Over the Hill was the Rolling Stone review.

Carla Bley: so brilliant. Twas partial to lesser yet wonderful re-contextualizations on “Mortelle Randonnéel” (French film soundtrack)1983 & “I Hate to Sing”1984. I so wish I collected even more than I already have.

“Escalator”: It was (& still is) a monster move (1971 3Lp box set of wildly mixed personnel Rockin modern art song). Up there with the Hampton Grease Band 2Lp “music to eat”, coincidentally also 1971, both playful wonderful audacious.

You can get used to speaking on mic. It's kinda scary for some reason. I have a really difficult time doing pre-recorded talk segments for some reason. I guess the chatterbox in me has to be speaking to someone, even if I can't see them.

Wire continued; Hafta try that live-Wire(heh) at Rockpalaast. I also unequivocally recommend their “Peel Sessions” radio broadcast collection. As nearly ALL (of any band) of the Peel Sessions collections are stellar.
Most ALL of Colin Newman solo stuff swims for me as well.
