1971: hear Carla’s “Escalator Over the Hill” and NRBQ’s cover of Ida. Mind blown! 1988: I somehow get a job as Promo director for the New Music Distribution Service, founded by Carla (and Michael Mantler). Mind blown again! She didn’t come into the office very often but she was always gracious and funny. And truly one of the greats. RIP, Carla Bley.
