Jesus. I'm at work and it's non-stop. It's making the time speed by, but I'm fried. But not too fried to see The Bobby Lees tonight. Don't know if there are any other fans out there, but it looks like they are breaking up at the end of this tour. The hardships of trying to keep a young band together in these days has taken their toll. Here's hoping they have other avenues for expression.

If you haven't watched it before, DION DEMUCCI's YouTube video of the BUDDY HOLLY, RICHIE VALENS and BIG BOPPER tour is not to be missed. DIon and the BELMONTS were on that ill-fated tour as well. Dion is so compelling in his remembrance. And it was so satisfying when the R & R Hall of Fame inducted him.

' Sham 69 did not have the art school background of many English punk bands of the time, and brought in football chant backup vocals and an implicit political populism. The band attracted a large skinhead following (left wing, right wing and non-political). Their concerts were plagued by violence, and the band ceased live performances after a 1979 concert at the Rainbow Theatre in Finsbury Park was broken up by National Front-supporting white power skinheads fighting and rushing the stage. Well - the situation with Northern Ireland is that @ one point in History, the British Monarchy deliberately installed a quantity of Crown Loyalist Scots into the region - who 100s of years later quite naturally consider themselves both Natives & of the Empire. Religious identity was not the biggest root of the conflict. Altho in the Empire - & across the Centuries in Europe, Religious Civil War was catastrophic & long. Mainly why the U.S. Founders insisted on Separation of Church & State.

I always think of the book 'Dancing In the Streets' by Barbara Ehrenreich - about Festival & Public Celebration, & therefore the forces that opposed it. The whole middle section is a pocket history of how the Monarchs & the Militants highjacked both Islam & Christianity alike - leading to the HyperMoralist & Controlling institutions we have today. I mean - Islam ranges from the Dancing Dervishes to the Radical Fundamentalists who forbid Music @ all. & Xianity from MLK to the Klan. Was it Terence McKenna who characterized Xiantity as like a dog that goes back to its own vomit ? In any event - seems to me it's not possible to consider Religion in terms of Theology alone - & not also Social History & Political Power.
