He, Dale Hauskins, was heavy into Holdsworth and Hillage, and he brought that tenor to Flame Dream's music.

	9:32pm Dean: A recent review in the NYT of two books, a collection of poetry by Anthony Hecht, and a biography of Hecht takes issue with his devotion to "formalism." Evidently, formalism is old-fashioned, and Hecht's legacy suffers due to this fact, because we no longer respond to form, to rules, to technicalities. I'm puzzled. Witness the discussion here of the specifics of sampling. Why is it significant that X sampled A before Y? Why that X's sample is "technically" not a sample? We remain entirely formalist, entirely devoted to rules, and I can't envision how we ever will not be so disposed.

Evidently, formalism is old-fashioned, and Hecht's legacy suffers due to this fact, because we no longer respond to form, to rules, to technicalities. I'm puzzled. Witness the discussion here of the specifics of sampling. Why is it significant that X sampled A before Y? Why that X's sample is "technically" not a sample? We remain entirely formalist, entirely devoted to rules, and I can't envision how we ever will not be so disposed.
