Musical theater from off the beaten path. Obscure and unusual show tunes from within the canon and without, flops, failures, and the newest works from up-and-coming artists—plus tried-and-true hits. Also, occasional appearances from songs that are not show tunes (but only if they go really well with show tunes).

There is a controversial new album of Schoenberg early songs by jazz musicians Jeff Lederer and Mary Larose (vocals), which is worth checking out for those fans of reconstructed post-post-romanticism. I am guessing that @DJ Peter has heard of this.

I get that people didn't like the rawness of the Lou Reed/Metallica Lulu, but it's strange that they don't recognize that it perfectly matches the nihilism of the story. You might not want to listen to it, but it captures the emotions of the play well. IMHO!

Some of my favourite songs of the Comedian Harmonists are their songs with Josephine Baker, who sang beautifully and delicately with that lilting '30s vibrato. Especially "Sous le Ciel d'Afrique" -- it's on YouTube for those who want to be transported to music elysium (after Acid Jazz Hands is over of course!).

Th TV thre only showed commercials during hte news, and only in a block or two. and to keep people from tuning away, they'd show little cartoons based onthe frawings of cartoonist Loriot, with the Comedian Harmonists as the soundtrack. www.youtube.com...

I weren't to see Maestro today (on a movie theater). I figured a biopic so related to music would be best to see there. It was an error-dialog was not understandable, much fast muttering with a cigarette in the mouth (subtitles at home would have been better). Its a bit slow (but not hearing the dialog in a movie where everything that happens is in the dialog will do that). The music DID sound great, though...
