So many have asked me for a report of the Ingrid Laubrok Lilith sextet concert last week that I feel I must comply. It was a very interesting show: one long composition in suite form with a slightly unusual instrumentation: piano, accordion, trumpet, bass, drums, and saxophones. It was carefully constructed, and the pianist at least had a LOT of notes written on paper to follow. Much of it contrasted pairs of musicians against the rest of the group. The piece could almost have passed for a contemporary classical work, except for the obvious improvisations. The kids all played well, special kudos to David Adewumi on trumpet and Adam Matlock on accordion. Laubrock, as always, played very well and also conducted everyone through transitions and call-and-response sections. Definitely worth hearing. I don't think they've recorded yet.

So hard to project. Glen Jones has been a heavy hitter, so I think a lot of it will be made up by 15:00. Hard to say how much will be coming in from Stork at the same time.

Oh that's very insightful. Paar and Dick Cavett, back from an age when erudition wasn't depised. Johnny Carson more everyman. David Letterman signaling to his generation that Carson's generation was totally uncool.
Great barometer, thanks for that insight!

Oh that's awesome. Kovacs: spot on. Maybe Jim Henson is also a child of Kovacs? Simultaneously more and less perverse than Letterman.

DJ Peter - A bit off topic maybe. But Paar may have been the first, or among the earliest, to mention the Beatles on US TV. He ran a short film clip of the band performing in Europe, in October, 1963, several months before they landed in NYC.

yeah henson, even sesame street has a layer of the perverse inherent in puppetry which peter jackson picked up on with meet the feebles, puppets very much in henson's style

Fun coincidence: A couple days ago I listened to Marco von Orelli & Sheldon Suter, Draw From The Source, which features a suite titled Ticino. Yesterday I seemingly randomly decided to reread Max Frisch's Man in The Holocene. It takes place in Ticino.
