My Biology teacher daughter MollyJazz tells me Rosie's color scheme can only be in female cats (it's. sex-linked recessive, only carried on the X chromosome, so you need 2 X chromosomes with the trait (which females have, males are XY) to get that beautiful color scheme.

(MollyJazz corrected me, the genes are actually co-dominant, you need the black gene on one X chromosome, the tan on the other X chromosome. There will be a test at the end of the show...

Male calico cats can and do exist. For a male cat to be calico, he must have an unusual chromosomal arrangement where he has two X chromosomes and one Y chromosome (XXY). This is a genetic anomaly and occurs very infrequently, roughly once in every 3,000 calico births.

More genetics from MollyJazz-the black and tan are sex linked, on the X chromosome as noted above. The white color is a separate gene, on a different chromosome, injerited separately. Thus, a calico cat has the 2 X-linked black/tan genes, and the white gene on another chromosome. The Tortoise Shell have the 2 X-likned black/tan genes, but now the white, non sex-linked gene.
This test is getting harder...

First heard this by the original Blood, Sweat and Tears (Al Kooper version), love the tune!

Gerry from Miami:

Buckley's "Morning Glory" is definitive. But the rendition by AL KOOPER and his BLOOD, SWEAT and TEARS on their first LP(with Steve Katz on vocal)is a worthy cover.

One of my first live concerts was Tim Buckley, opening for Zappa and the Mothers of Invention at SUNY Binghamton. This was 1972, he was touring behind Greetings from LA. I didn’t care for the studio album , but the songs were electrifying live. So sad to lose him so early.

Jeff:

Bob, Larry, early on, went on the road with Jean Luc Ponty and mixed his live sound. Tim Buckley was early in his studio career. He got involved with T Bone Burnett during or after Dylan’s Rolling Thunder Revue and worked on all the Alpha Band records. After that, he and T Bone were a team. T Bone got all the production credit (and money) while Larry was listed as engineer and got paid for the session only. Until Elvis Costello recognized the injustice and insisted that Larry receive co-production credit for King Of America. Larry’s worked with Los Lobos, Marshall Chapman, John Hiatt, Peter Case, etc.

Speaking of SUNY Binghamton, I went there as a visiting student from Jan ‘73 to Dec ‘73 (I started in New Paltz Sept ‘71). Among others, I saw the following concerts at the school: Duke Ellington, Slam Stewart (w/Dizzy Gillespie at one gig and Clark Terry at another), Beach Boys, David Bromberg, Sam Chatmon (Mississippi Sheiks), Pink Anderson (Pink Floyd copped his name), David Bromberg, Loggins & Messina (Jim Croce opened), Dave Mason, Stevie Wonder (at the arena in town). There were many more. Suffice it to say, I was more interested in live music than attending classes. They booted my ass out of there once my time was up.
