This is where all of culture and all of time are collapsed into one seductive portal and viewed through the panoramic lens of the exotic. Come and embark on an armchair-travel virtual-voyage to the heart of timeless darkness and beyond; embrace the numinous monolith of the exotic immensity. Let us find that place where hybridization meets its destiny as pure fantasy. Let us become observers observing those others who are ourselves. You wear your mask and I'll wear mine.

now the liner notes for this record are very clear that Sonny is only on the first side of the album - this is from the second side - but no other guitarist is credited, and the guitar here sounds like Sonny. If it's not him, and I think it is, I'm still giving him credit for it; if that's an uncredited guitarist, he's doing his best Sonny after being personally coached by the maestro

FlashStrap@8:39pm; re “paradise” album was at a very small record convention event (mid 1990s) in nowhere-ville New England & found this album for $5+? (before Lp prices started requiring a mortgage). Prior, had only heard his solo albums (magnificent seize the 🌈 is a fave) and was floored that he was soaring with this “free-fusion” in 1975. - appreciate the memories that flood back, triggered by re/visiting the kismet finds from ones musical adventures.

Here's q question for the DJs, there's a sort of flat percussion sound being used here which I can only describe as like an auditory hallucination. Do you know what I mean? Can you explain how they get it if you do?

i lost it at the movies 🎥:

Buck & the Preacher; TCM would benefit from adding titles like this to its regular rotations. I adore TCM, but wish they would add more variety (even more culty oldies from the 1930s--forward to current era). So many repeats - there has got to be more variety. Anyway (I digress)…Buck/Preacher was shown as part of either Poitier day or Belafonte day (& or Memorials). It was Sidney Poitier’s first directorial effort (& stronger than many of the “winky playful” ones to follow).
