I saw Sugar Shack in Austin a few weeks ago. While the band was playing I put 2 and 2 together that John Gibson was THEE John Gibson. I was all like "That's John Gibson! That's John Gibson!" to Candy. Candy said "I know. He's my bud." "I was all like "Can I meet him? Huh, huh, can I meet him?!?!". I'm sure Candy had already figured this out but there was no question as to how big of a dummy I was after that exchange. - hahaha!

Back in chat, I see Sugar Shack and Party Owls mentioned... here's a quick rundown: Me-bass, Andy-guitar, Mark-sax/vocals, Glenbo-drums, Robie-lead vocals, were the Party Owls from '84 thru '88. In '88 Robie left for Seattle, Mark took over so we changed name to Sugar Shack with Austin then Kyle for second guitar, and several different drummers. In ’95 I got a second job so I left the band. Me, Andy, and Mark played together for over 12 years. John Gibson took my place, he was in Bark Hard. Howdy Mom, Pfuzz, Tim, medson, everyone!!!!

That's it exactly - more like a rodeo ride than keeping time. Which it is true is usually the Drummer's primary scared duty. TheWho were a bit inside-out. The Gittarist was the de facto Rhythm keeper. As one analyst put it - Pete threw everything down - & Moon blew everything back up - as counterpoint.

i love kenny's drumming in the faces, and it's clear that pete put limits on what kenny played in the who.

led zep lyrics are so terrible. and plant is mediocre at best as a vocalist. i prefer his 80s solo output and the honeydrippers

Kenny Jones is great. Just check the SmallFaces. But replacing Moon was a fool's errand & bound to be thankless. People note Kenny worked hard & rose to it as it went on.

i saw plant in 1985 and the show was 3 hours - his 1st 3 solo albums then a honeydrippers set as the encore. zero zep songs. it was worth it just to be there for the crowd's disappointment

He could not survive. He was mentally ill—deranged but also very entertaining. But, he was apparently really sweet too.

Bonham is one of my favorite drummers. He's not the greatest of all time, and greatest of all time is silly anyway, but I will say that he didn't play a single bad note on any Zeppelin record.

The counter to that would be saying people like me were sick of having the StevieNicks Mac force-fed to them for so long. I try to be broadminded - but I do have some allergy to stuff that Charted too hugely in the late 1970s~80s... The fact is - that whole Feel Good culture was never my own.
