Sounded familiar to me, too, but I think that's because it had an early Joy Division vibe to it.

Tony, I'm sure you've answered this many times, so apologies, but why are the "Tape Hiss" shows not archived? Is it a copyright thing or something?
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:28pm

↳ Tony Coulter @12:25
Gee I wonder if someone included that part on a mixtape? Actually, I'm pretty sure someone did. I'm pretty sure I know who would do something like that.
Avatar 12:29pm
Tony Coulter:

↳ Summer and Michael and Sylvia @12:26
It's because technically radio stations aren't supposed to play whole albums (much less the kind of unreleased demos I occasionally play). For that reason "station management" asked me not to archive these shows, to avoid the possibility of legal trouble.
Avatar 12:30pm
Tony Coulter:

Just checked -- this F/i tape has never previously been played on FMU.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:31pm

i didn't hear the beginning but when i tuned in it sounded like a muddled, manipulated recording of the cure's "disintegration" (5? years before disintegration) then went into something like what i did when i first acquired an echo unit and spent hours at a time making loud noise

Dean:

I think the legal restrictions are different for broadcast airwaves and digital streams. Sometimes I worry when stream shows feature tribute shows with multiple tracks by the same artists. Even though they don't comprise an album per se, the rules might have something to say about the practice.

I'm just blabbing off the top of my head, but I seem to remember that it's OK to play a whole side of a record or tape -- not sure how that translates to CDs or digital releases.

since moving out here we have a wildlife show every day. Local harris' hawk regularly hunts mourning doves in the back yard. Lizards compete, quail scream for their children. And master/slave relationships in here. It's a good life.
