The Surfaris  Surfer Joe   Favoriting Wipe Out  Dot  1963    This B Side seems to be a song that everyone (older!) knows somehow. Probably because it's great. Certain songs like this remind me of the Zenith console stereo in my living room as a kid and the teeth marks I put in it when I was just tall enough to look inside to see the records turning around. I think I 'teethed" on it! 
The Swimming Pool Cues  Rat Bait   Favoriting The Deep End  DB  1981    Woefully little on the net about this great Atlanta band. I believe this has been re-issued on CD. Great live act. 
Lord Sutch and Heavy Friends  Flashing Lights   Favoriting Lord Sutch and Heavy Friends  Cotillion  1970  LP  Practically a Led Zeppelin LP sans Plant. Page and Bonham assist the legendary Lord Sutch, relatively unknown in the US but sa colorful figure in swinging London. Paul McCartney  Ram On   Favoriting Ram  Apple  1971  LP  Lo-Fi Paul. A sentimental fave. Larry from Lackawack shed tears over this and I don't blame him. Simple. Melodic. Paul. Ram On! 
String Driven Thing  To See You   Favoriting The Machine That Cried  Charisma  1973  LP  Quite popular across the pond in its day. The Dylan influence is obvious. James from England wrote to tell me this song reminded him of riding his motorcycle way back then in his red leather trousers. Nice! I like when the songs I play stir up memories for people. Music is so magical that way. As cliche as that sounds.

Sammy Davis, Jr.  Spinning Wheel   Favoriting Something For Everyone  Motown  1970  LP  The grooviest! You have to love Sammy. Even when he kissed Nixon. Here, has one eye on the past and one on the future even though he had but one eye! An amazing rendition of the David Clyton-Thomas classic. Doin' his own thing man! 
The Wrest  Bet Your Sweet Bippy   Favoriting   Target  1969  45  I just found out this was a Wisconsin band! And of course, The Dusty Show is produced here in Wisconsin as well. So I can enjoy fame by geographical association. This was of course inspired by the Bet Your Sweet Bippy phrase employed on TV's Rowan and MArtin's Laugh-In which also gave us the phrase "Here Come Da Judge!" 
Vanessa Redgrave  Pink Angora   Favoriting Red and Blue  United Artists  1967    From the short film Red and Blue. Still not sure exactly what is happening in this song. I guess she is riding around on a motorbike seducing men in her pink angora sweater. 
Sandy Nelson  Teen Beat   Favoriting Teen Beat  Imperial  1959  LP  He made many many great drum albums that get quite experimental later on in his career. He also had a big hit with "Let There Be Drums" and actually lost a foot in an accident in 1962. Here is a great read on Sandy Nelson. http://www.spaceagepop.com/nelson.htm 
Adam And The Ants  Antmusic   Favoriting Kings Of The Wild Frontier  CBS  1980  LP  Fun! They hooked up with Pistols svengali Malcolm Macleran to help them get over. Even though some band members defected to Bow Wow Wow. Remember when he broke his ankle on TV? I think it was the Motown 25 show or something.

Timmy Thomas  Why Can't We Live Together   Favoriting Adam VIII Presents Soul Train  Adam VIII Ltd.  1973  LP  This is so cool. Just an organ and a primitive drum machine and Timmy. This never ever stops sounding good to me. Thomas was house organist for the legendary Miami TK (Glades) label. Steve Winwood later recorded this song.

Bloodrock  It's A Sad World (Edit)   Favoriting USA  Capitol  1972  LP  I knew it wasn't just me. I just went online and read skads of great reviews of this LP. And I always felt guilty about it being one my favorites. It really is a good album. My only regret is that I wimped out and edited it down. I will play more in the future. Be warned.
