A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Alice Coltrane carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

popcorn takes me back to 5th grade. we had this 45 and Keem-O-Sabe by the Electric Indian. Too cool!
  9:19am
jonathan:

we had popcorn on 8 track and listened to it incessantly when i was a kid. there was a version with lyrics, too. i think they were something like, "when the sun i shining green, when the sun is shining green..."
  9:23am
dj:

very Joy Division this, good stuff :)
  9:25am
Cubicle Carl:

I knew this guy who could play "popcorn" on his adam's apple.
  9:33am
dale:

dj, have you seen "Control?" The lead channeled Ian Curtis performing pretty well.
  9:34am
dj:

yeah i saw it. and i was surpised, in a very positive way :) .. good movie, and i'm glad they used unknown actors.

  9:43am
dale:

"24 hour party people" is a good movie to rent if you're into that whole Manchester scene.

Different rockumentary, but "DIG" is hilarious...about Brian Jonestown Massacre and Dandy Warhol rivalry.
  9:45am
Dan:

I just watched Control last month on May 18 -- totally unintentional. when the credits rolled and said he died on that day I was like "...whoa..."
  9:45am
55 Fingers:

I think I figured out why you don't care for my comments and I apologize. The show's quite good as always. Perhaps you'll forgive me.
  9:47am
dj:

i can recommend 24 hour party people too .. good music .. about a great era in music :) back when it was about the music :)
  9:48am
jonathan:

DIG! is HI- larious.
  9:49am
dj:

oh damn trouble ... you know what to pick .. seen Maher shalal hash baz twice :) .. love osaka bridge..

the guy lives in my city now :) see him at a lot of shows.. in Copenhagen Denmark
  9:49am
Eric:

Highly recommend DIG; hilarious snapshot of slightly self-important indie folk...Brian Jonestown Massacre, Bravery Repetition Noise, a definite classic though
  9:50am
Cecile:

Not according to the old hippies I know, dj.

But ITA, good times, good times. Even though, *gasp*, I think I like New Order better. ;D
  9:51am
R. P.:

I missed control, but saw a stellar music doc last night, "Wild Combination," about the life and music of Arthur Russell. The cellist who combined experimental music and disco. The way the film's images correlated with the music was spot on. And they had footage of Russell performing with the Talking Heads, from TV Party!
  9:52am
dj:

arthur russel is a disco legend :D ... always good with some recommendations, haven't seen that doc.
  9:54am
R. P.:

It just came out, and was shown at AFI in DC. The DVD won't be out until the Fall, with some limited theatrical release before that.
  9:56am
dale:

just googled "wild combination"- looks good. I'm on an austerity budget though, so have to wait for the dvd to come out. I'm dusputing whether I can afford the trip up to the Town Crier to see Strawbs this weekend....
  10:00am
Cecile:

strawbs are still around? impressive!
  10:02am
jonathan:

going to see polvo in boston tomorrow if i can afford it.
why are my bloody valentine tix over $100? shit.
  10:04am
Cecile:

Kevin Shields needs to pay the recording studio. It has been 14 years now...
  10:05am
dj:

  10:10am

  10:12am

Tommy the intern:

Trouble, you rock.
  10:15am
montreal:

funny how all of the jspaceman tracks on that soundtrack sound like old spectrum/sonic boom b-sides.
  10:17am
R. P.:

Saw Cluster @ Floristree in Baltimore last month. They were being very ambient, which was great, except for a couple of loud talkers in the audience. Thanks for the reminder about G.G. in D.C. this Sunday, C.
