Street interviews, listener call-ins, vinyl gluttery, sporadic normalcy, original floperas and fiktion, blatant talking over songs, politix, tenderness, and a vague undercurrent of angst. Right up your alley!

How On It Goes
After re-listening to The Beef Spiders piece, I have to say it seems rather half-baked. I have been a bit lackadaisical this summer, throwing shows (some of them) together at the last minute, And, although this one has its moments (hopefully) ... all in all I think it is a pretty sub-par effort from me. These are the types of shows I sometimes wish to have "stricken from the record" or, at least, taken down from the archives, for fear they rather tarnish the overall canon of shows from the last two years. That said, it will probably stay and I'll just have to deal with the embarrassment of having dropped the ball yet again in season 2.

In case you are interested, this piece was achieved by taping (basically) one sentence or thought at a time, in rapid succession. It's a method I have used before. It allows me to think at least a little about what I am saying, as opposed to pure improv ... but by quickly deciding what to say next, I don't get bogged down seeking perfection and ultimately give up. After all, despite my anal propensities, it is WFMU and I don't think it is perfection you seek when you tune in. A certain degree of unprofessionalism is, if not encouraged, at least tolerated.

Bread  Baby-I'm-A-Want-You   Favoriting Greatest Hits  Elektra  1973  LP  Now THIS is perfection. David Gates was definitely on a roll at this time of his career and, frankly, I can't get enough of this type of AM radio schmaltz. Beautiful, in my estimation and I'm not sure why but, it seemed like the perfect palate cleanser following the Beef Spider thing.

LIVE! (Oh, God, NO!)
That lonely space of time when no one calls and I awkwardly riff, hoping for a flashing light. In the future, when you hear me doing this, please help. Please call.

Another opening, another show ... In Philly Boston or Baltimore ... a chance for stage folks to say hello ... another openin' of another openenin' of a- nooooothhhhherrrrrr shoooooooooooowwwwwwwwww! Yeah! So there it was. Bongos, Beef Spiders and talk! Hope you liked it all right. Hey and, a special note to those of you who prefer the pre-produced, street interview oriented Dusty Shows. There will be more of them. Just having some fun and dicking around for the Summer. Perhaps it's a grave mistake. Perhaps overall listenership has dipped appreciably, to the tune of 35-40%? Listeners don't take to being jerked around like cheap kites, but sometimes, you have to do what your gut tells you ... and my slightly expanding mini-gut (does that colonic, enema-like thing people pay to get do any good?) tells me the world needs more bongos, beef spiders (though only this once, promise) and talk.

On the subject of talk, let's all admit it, I'm not the best. I'm no Don Imus or Rush Limbaugh. I could use some work. So, don't be afraid to "let me have it" with your criticisms. After all, it's your opinions over the years that have continued to steer the pandering, peach-colored, Chevy Vega Hatchback that is, The Dusty Show.

Until next time, have a great Summer everyone. Think good thoughts. Take care and ... always remember!
