Listener comments!

  12:10pm
trs:

ahh
  12:14pm
Cecile:

THANK YOU DIANE.
  12:16pm
Cecile:

Can you slip on Circumstances from Clear Spot?
  12:17pm
Cecile:

also love the color scheme.
  12:21pm
Cecile:

HELL YEAH.
  12:22pm
Wendy Del Formaggio:

Hey Diane! Happy Solstice to you and all the listeners. Thanks for the great music.
  12:25pm
Cecile:

YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH
  12:25pm
~L:

The test was silent, I don't think it broadcast, if it matters....
  12:26pm
herb:

hey, was this EMERGENCY TEST related to all the terror events of yesterday? (ahh, yesterday - the good old days.) and, i just saw NADA SURF do DEPECHE MODE's "enjoy the silence" at the rock shop. hence, i enjoyed wfmu's silence.
  12:26pm
dc pat:

feck! shite! carp! I missed a bunch of the Captain! ... and the test...
  12:28pm
Wendy Del Formaggio:

I heard the test. There were those funny little sounds and that was it. ~L, are you listening on-line or terrestrially?
  12:30pm
Wendy Del Formaggio:

ooh, nice segueway from Ice Cream to Blue Oyster Cult! Thanks, Diane!
  12:31pm
Steven Gugel:

Wow Diane! That is the first time I've ever heard that B.O.C. song anywhere other than my own turntable - I'm talking like 35 years!
  12:32pm
glenn:

i was thinking fmu had changed format to "all beefheart, all the time".
  12:33pm
Cecile:

glenn, that would be great, wouldn't it?
Steve, stick with Diane and you won't another 35 years!
  12:33pm
Steven Gugel:

P.S. Did anyone see the purse from the woman who tried to disarm the shooter at the Florida school board meeting on Ebay? It went from $0.99 to now $11,000+ in 2 days with 1 more day to go? Not only does she have balls, but she's really smart too.
  12:34pm
Steven Gugel:

Cecile - won't what another 35 years? live for?
  12:36pm
Ike:

Online, re: EAS, I heard quite a bit of silence too, after the usual beepy, sorta-old-modem-like noises.
  12:39pm
glenn:

i don't think i've EVER heard captain beefheart on any commercial station, unless it was some of the stuff recorded with frank zappa, and i've been a serious radio listener for 40 years. then again, i've never heard the shaggs, either.
  12:39pm
JT:

Fun Beefheart fact: Maine's biggest rock radio station started in a trailer and would play weird stuff back in the 70s. It's WBLM, "The Blimp". And to this day they use a clip from TMR between songs: "It's the blimp! It's the blimp, Frank, it's the blimp!".

I doubt 1 in 200 listeners know the source.
  12:41pm
Cecile:

You won't have to wait another 35 years to hear Blue Oyster Cult on the radio...
  12:41pm
glenn:

when i say serious i don't mean all unsmily, or clipboardy.
  12:43pm
Steven Gugel:

Oh, ok, well that's the best news I've had all this lame year. Thanks, Cecile.
  12:44pm
Rodney:

This Winter track is great. It sounds like Celtic Frost in slow motion.
  12:47pm
ben drinken:

there are a handful of decent commercial radio stations around the country. There are one or two in Vermont. that try to be independent of big media. nothing like wfmu, of course. but there are some that are ok to listen to when in the locale. and the commercials are all hilariously local. and djs can somewhat do what they want. dying out, though.
  12:48pm
glenn:

not in canada, ben.
  12:49pm
Cecile:

Hey, Diane, could you play something from the I album that Abbath did from Immortal? Half the songs are about climbing ice moutains 'n' shit.
  12:49pm
glenn:

i stick to the cbc when i'm driving.
  12:53pm
dc pat:

There's a reason why a lot of people commenting on these playlists are from DC. Even the classical music station blows. They play the same 5 composers endlessly.
  12:53pm
jl:

ben are you thinking of WEQX in VT?
  1:09pm
PKNY:

This *might* be my favorite Buzzcocks song, thanks for playing!
  1:10pm
Jim Devoid:

I get EQX here in NY (Albany's almost on the MA/VT border). It is eclectic, but really not too far out of the range of "normal". They are an independent station, however.
  1:11pm
Ike:

Yeah Ben's right, VT is a good radio state. WEQX is OK sometimes. D.C. is horrendous.
  1:18pm
ben drinken:

@jl. I must have heard that one at times when I am down there. I've heard it is a decent commercial station. There is one in Burlington that is an "album" station that is ok. In central vt there is a family owned station WDEV that has a variety of programs. It used to be just AM years ago. They have a trading post in the morning where local people call in and sell stuff. then on saturdays the station manager has a show called "music to go to the dump by"
  1:21pm
ben drinken:

also many college stations in VT and New England. They are ok but it seems most of the djs are trying to learn how to be a canned commercial radio dj.
  1:21pm
Bill:

Diane, do you have any Alice-Zappa recordings?
  1:24pm
BSI:

Ike, sadly, is right. re: DC.
This is why the good lard gave us the interwebs & this fine thing here.
  1:27pm
ben drinken:

but there is nothing like wfmu, never will be. it is more than radio. it is actually bigger than radio.
  1:30pm
Wendy Del Formaggio:

I'll chime in on the "decent VT stations" to plug my alma mater (so to speak), WVEW in Brattleboro. Our friend Charlie Lewis was on the air there for awhile. He took my old time slot, in fact! Now he's back here on FMU on the Give the Drummer Some stream. Anyway, WVEW is commercial free and independent, 'tho they do some underwriting.
  1:30pm
jl:

i have to plug my station, WMBR in Cambridge/Boston (wmbr.org), MIT's community radio. A different show every 2 hrs, sometimes 1 hr but something you'll like at some point (we have rock blocks in the morning). Plus we have WZBC from BC and WHRB from Harvard. And FNX is passable for commercial.
  1:34pm
curlee59:

Working Up A Sweat! Thank You Diane! Haven't heard that in years.
  1:36pm
BSI:

That Brainticket reissue is getting lots of love around here. Nice. Almost wish I hadn't found the import CD ages ago; I'd prefer the 180g vinyl...
  1:43pm
Cecile:

YEAH, entombed.
  1:44pm
Nen:

I just survived my last final exam, but the real win is that I no longer have class on Tuesdays and can listen to Diane's show again! Oh thank god
  1:59pm
Swami:

Officially done with school today! Got my Masters at 46!
  2:02pm

  2:04pm
Cecile:

  2:05pm
Greebler:

excellent job Swami! I'm aiming for a masters at 50, once I figure out what...
  2:05pm
Cecile:

I'm having a dethklok moment right now
  2:06pm
Greebler:

ps: that's right, I'm HELLA old. But I like NOISE.
  2:06pm
trs:

I nominate the word 'creeptacular'. Flowing out of the crap, right?
  2:07pm
Cecile:

I'm hella older than everyone on this board, I figure.
  2:09pm
trs:

Just don't ask to store the cookies anymore. Give illusion that clearing, blocking etc. is possible. Problem solved!
  2:11pm
ben drinken:

  2:20pm

  2:50pm
Marmalade Kitty:

I must have spent the last 4-5 days with my head in the snow. I'm sad; just found out about the Captain :( Missed the set but will listen later! Thanks Diane, great show
  2:59pm
Marmalade Kitty:
