Yair Yona (Tel Aviv):

wow, that's surprising! hearing an old Israeli tune all of a sudden in WFMU. Wow. this song by Apocalypse, like the rest of the album, is a masterpiece.
  4:07pm
glenn:

speaking of arks, and i know i could look this up, did anybody ever calculate how big the ark would have to be to hold noah, and his family and the two of every species plus all the food? not to mention ALL. THE. POO.

i meant, you know, a real mathematician.
  4:10pm
faith cop:

What are you tryin' to do...rock the ark? You just blew your rapture, pal.
  4:13pm
glenn:

there's a good israeli band called orphaned land.
  4:13pm
dc pat:

oh, well don't know about that...
  4:13pm
Yair Yona (Tel Aviv):

Scott - the album title is Apocalypse, it's self titled. all the songs were written by israeli poets, and the lineup consists of the finest musicians of the time. The album was released in 71 and was ahead of its time here, so it was a complete commercial failure. though, artistically speaking, it is considered to be one of the milestones of Israeli rock.. if you want more interesting stuff from that era - let me know.
  4:14pm
bah:

and a great writer: etgar keret!!
  4:15pm
Scott:

thanks much Yair! And thanks for the background, I haven't been able to find much. Yeah, would love more interesting stuff from there/then!
  4:18pm

My Scott Walker radar just went off. Guess I'm the comments board wacko for liking him/them.
  4:22pm
Yair Yona (Tel Aviv):

@Scott - sure, drop me an email
@Randy - yea ;)
  4:22pm
glenn:

i got really sick on chewing tobacco in the fall of 1972, which is probably why i've never smoked. thank you, redman.
  4:23pm
Scott:

I will Yair, thanks!
  4:23pm
glenn:

are you playing in toronto, yair ?
  4:23pm
ben drinken:

November 10 1972
  4:24pm
bah:

november 20 1972
  4:24pm
Yair Yona (Tel Aviv):

Scott, little anecdote - Lead guitarist of Apocalypse was a guy called Itzak Clepter , known as Churchill. He was the founder (though never recorded with them) of legendary Israeli psych band The Churchills who released one album in 69 before turning into Jericho Jones (that did hard rock) and after that Jericho (who went prog).
If you don't know The Churchills album - mark yourself a must have in your ongoing list ;)
  4:25pm
Yair Yona (Tel Aviv):

@Glenn - there's a slight chance I'll be in Montreal but Toronto isn't planned right now. maybe next time .
  4:26pm
glenn:

ah, montreal's not that far away. better bagels too.
  4:26pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

not a big fan of the Walkers, but that wasn't bad. My coworker was singing along w it.
  4:26pm
dc pat:

don't really give a crap about the Wlaker Bros but that tune is growing on me for some reason...
  4:27pm
Yair Yona (Tel Aviv):

got family there, they won't forgive me if I won't come.
  4:27pm

  4:28pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

let's all get drunk and stand in a drainage ditch waiting for the rapture
  4:28pm
?:

Tobacco = strange. When guys all around me chewed in college, I tried Skoal awhile -- long enough to get a callus started on the back of the lip. And saw dudes get sick, the ones who only wanted it when drunk, but drunkenness was the exact condition. of course, for heightened sickness susceptibility.
  4:28pm
bah:

ah ah
  4:28pm
glenn:

i've found that family will use any reason they can find to never forgive you.
  4:29pm
Yair Yona (Tel Aviv):

Glenn - yes, especially Jewish women. ;)
  4:30pm
glenn:

chester brown released his book right in the middle of running for a seat in our recent election.
  4:30pm
Yair Yona (Tel Aviv):

oh, and Scott - sorry, my mistake - the album was indeed released in 1972 not 1971. only people like us care about that kind of stuff anyway
  4:31pm
dc pat:

DCE: dman right!
  4:32pm
ben drinken:

My family moved around a lot when i was young for my dad's job. we lived in Texas for awhile and just about all the 10-12 y/o boys would "dip" or chew. i tried it and nearly passed out. i remember riding my bike down the street when it kicked in and i fell off the bike after wobbling trying to keep control of it. i threw up at home in the toilete and my mom saw the little bits of the chew in the toilette and got mad.
  4:32pm
Buck Henry:

GET SMART!
  4:34pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

ick, I'm not enticed by these stories to try the chaw
  4:36pm
bah:

don't want too
just for cowboy
  4:37pm
glenn:

oh yeah, chewing tobacco is definitely disgusting. i'm glad i never had to clean up the brooklyn dodgers dugout.
  4:38pm
ben drinken:

there was an old Indian man in that Texas neighborhood and he used to give out chew to all the kids.
  4:39pm

  4:39pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

this guy sounds like he's on a bad chaw trip
  4:40pm
Yair Yona (Tel Aviv):

Glenn - you just did everyone a big favor
. they'll thank you for that.
  4:41pm
still b/p:

I lived in Texas a few years, and you had to be wary of going into any wastebasket to retrieve something because there was always a good chance some chaw spit would be on papers and everything else, or coffee cups holding spit would be in there. Soda bottles and tall cups could be found left anywhere on their own, a quarter full, after serving as foul-dribbled spittoons.
  4:41pm
ben drinken:

DCE-yes, this koko taylor track sounds like what i felt like on that bike after the chew
  4:42pm
Nat the Parker:

Wild at Heart is a movie that represents my individuality and love of personal freedom... nice song too, btw
  4:42pm
glenn:

i try.
  4:42pm

  4:42pm
BSI:

  4:43pm
glenn:

if only scott would play that george barnes track i sent him. hint hint.
  4:44pm
ben drinken:

oh i just remembered another disgusting chaw story. when i was in the army the black hawk pilots would chew tons. and spit it out. if the door was open the spit would fly out of the pit and into our faces in the back
  4:45pm

David Lynch is a genius/tt.m. nutjob!

  4:48pm
old indian guy in texas:

  4:56pm
still b/p:

I heard a great montage of a bunch participants from different reality shows asserting, "I'm not here to make friends!"
  4:56pm
ben drinken:

when i was around 12 years old i had a friend who was catholic. very devout family. one time i went to dinner and spent the night at their house. they didn't tell me that they were going to confession that night, too. The preist asked if i wanted to confess anything. my eyes got wide and i was thinking about all the dirty magazines i found in the ally and did things with myself while looking at them. i was also a paper boy and the only thing i could think of that wasn't about the self pleasuring was about not liking a dog on my route. he sadi "you were mad at a dog, is that all son?"

i did like this movie...
  5:23pm
yair yona (tel aviv):

@Glenn, told you - it's an excellent album. mind the single Too Much In Love To Hear which wasn't in the album but it is one of their finest songs. it's actually a cover to a song by The Tornadoes (produced by Joe Meek). the guitarist in both bands was Rob Haxley, who wrote the song, so he actually covered himself.
  5:27pm
glenn:

didn't john fogerty get sued for that?
  5:51pm
kiemzi:

awesome end-of-the-world episode! thanks, scott!
  5:51pm

Yes Glenn, Fogarty got sued for self-plagiarism. Is this a wonderful country or what?
