Street interviews, listener call-ins, vinyl gluttery, sporadic normalcy, original floperas and fiktion, blatant talking over songs, politix, tenderness, and a vague undercurrent of angst. Right up your alley!

John's Farewell
I'd like to interject at this point that I got a late start on this show. The week was filled with constant rain, making it difficult for me to get out on the street and collect interview material. So, it was late Wednesday by the time I talked to these people, and even later when I was able to actually proceed with show assemblage functions. I'd like to have taken more time, and perhaps had more raw audio to draw from, but it doesn't always work that way. A supportive email at this point would go a long way towards making me feel better about the ball-droppage this week. dusty@wfmu.org --- I'll look for yours.

(listeners note) At this point I am pressed for time and, also, I had stopped the taking of copious notes. So ... I will now log more poorly, the artists included in this show. I do this with no small degree of guilt or shame, and risking prime litigation. I hope this is not the case.
(addendum) There is plenty of George Benette and Jan Hammer in the background from this point out. I do know this much. And I have promoted the living heck out of these guys in the past. Their royalties must be dripping off of them like Karo White Syrup by now.

This glitch, I only noticed later, in review, after the show aired, and I was/am mortified. Note it again ... 1:05:33 ... GLITCH!!!

I Was Sad to Hear She Doesn't Miss Wisconsin
I miss Wisconsin sometimes. I love NYC, my wife, my lifem but it's hard to live somewhere six years and not have it make an indelible stamp on one's heart and mind. I miss the country roads, the atmosphere, my old apartment. I miss Missy's Restaurant in Mukwonago and I miss Palmyra and Eagle. I miss Lake Geneva and the Elk Horn Saloon. I miss my old friends. I love Wisconsin, as foul as her politics might be.

Closing Remarks and Warnings
So there she is, a show, in the can and on her way. Not the best Dusty ever, no, not by a long-shot, but a show, nonetheless. I hope you were able to glean something and that you'll tune in again in the future.

Uncertain about that future, to be honest. After the blush of last week's rollicking Strength Through Failure, three-hour Triumvirate Duel, which was met with a near ticker-tape parade of listener love, I had fantasies of spinning it into a Summer Replacement Show, Fabio, Julie and I keeping it going, keeping that metaphorical snowball growing as it rolled down the hill of increasing fame and ego-gratification. But, no. Fabio has put the kabosh on it, with Julie's agreement. I am stunned and injured, though my love for them continues. There will be no Triumvirate Summer. No blockbuster new popularity and all the heralding and dressing room roses that come with it. Same old, folks, same old. Safety. zzzzzzzzzzzz

Always Remember,

Clay - NYC

HI Clay!

Sounds like it gonna be a really Big Shoe!

John McCabe in L.A.:

what is this all about?
  6:22pm
CLAY:

You got that right. David
  6:22pm
CLAY:

Unsure, John
  6:23pm
randy in NC:

According to the font of rock star wisdom, wikipedia, Annie Haslam appeared on Roy Wood's 1975 solo album Mustard, but it doesn't say anything about who he was (or is) married to. So you were close, Clay.
  6:24pm
CLAY:

Thanks, Randy. I knew there was some connection.
  6:24pm
John McCabe in L.A.:

oh i went to Pinks last week and ate a hot dog
  6:26pm
CLAY:

Kind of sad Fabio doesn't want a Triumvirate Summer. Pink's is good. I miss LA.
  6:29pm
Ed Sullivan:

about triumvirate summer -- A lot of FMU DJs are mainly solo acts and the big cheese in their own world. I aint sayin, I'm just sayin.
  6:30pm
anne:

just so you know, i've had that lionel richie song you played last week in my head since then. i do love it quite a bit.
  6:30pm
Ike:

I think Fabio would be more receptive to the idea if you made it clear that it wouldn't be a DJ battle every week. Maybe he plays music for an hour, then you guys talk and take calls, then you play a taped bit, and do a DJ battle for three hours only ONCE a MONTH. That would be less exhausting.
  6:31pm
CLAY:

Same thing here, Anne. I played it one night at a party on a lark and ended up thinking what a cool song it was/is.
  6:31pm
hopey:

John McCabe in L.A.: how long did you wait in line?
  6:31pm
Pantagruel:

The Triumvirate should do a throwdown once a season.
  6:33pm
CLAY:

Yes, Ike. That's how I saw it, too.
  6:34pm
CLAY:

Yeah, maybe, Panta ... the novelty might wear off fast.
  6:35pm
John McCabe in L.A.:

not bad only like 10min i went at around 4pm
  6:39pm
Ike:

4 p.m. is the right time to go to a really popular casual food joint. That's the time to get the great spicy cumin lamb noodles at Xi'an Famous Foods in NYC.
  6:40pm
Pantagruel:

Clay, I'd like to see DJ A play a song that gets "scored" by DJs B and C, then DJ B play a song "scored" by A and C, etc. The idea being to play something you like that the others like too. I think you'd all be honest enough.
  6:41pm
CLAY:

Good idea Panta ... there was much to learn from last week.
  6:42pm
Pantagruel:

Clay, last week was second only to your "Shazz" fill-in episode.
  6:43pm
CLAY:

I'm filling in for Irene on the 30th I think.
  6:44pm
Pantagruel:

You and Irene together would be something. Maybe you should have guests for the summer!
  6:46pm
Ike:

These audio clips and sound collages are great! I especially enjoyed the collage at the start of this tape.
  6:46pm
John McCabe in L.A.:

I made a movie this week for school you can see it here if you like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k6ZuJNBmV-A
  6:47pm
Listener Jon:

Dusty, I haven't heard Colonel Carl in a long time. Any thoughts about bringing him back?
  6:48pm
CLAY:

Thanks Ike ... that was actually a Youtube collage that followed the stream of consciousness thing I like to do. May try more of it in the future. So you don't have to hear so much of ME talking. I get tired of me.
  6:55pm
glenn:

i'm biting my tongue (typing hand) here.
  6:56pm
glenn:

kidding. jeeeez.
  6:57pm
CLAY:

Hi Glenn!
  6:58pm
glenn:

sir.
  7:00pm
hopey:

Tiny Mountain, UT. Catchy.
  7:01pm
Life Commercial:

Ikey likes it!
  7:03pm
Ike:

I'm picky too. But I never understood that commercial. "He'll eat anything" -- didn't they mean "he WON'T eat anything?" b/c otherwise it makes no sense.
  7:05pm
Life Commercial:

maybe they let the child actors improvise some, for that "natural" effect...
