	12:01pm geleni fontaine: a huge part of that outpouring is heron's basic radical message of empowerment to african-american and social justice communities. his work uplifted many people and overrides the circumstances of his death. no surprise that people remember him with much love and grief *

I recognize he was an innovator of sorts, but a great artist? Maybe I'm missing something. He seemed to be kind of off-key much of the time for instance. I guess that wasn't really the important part of his work. ...whatever, play some Nick Lowe.

	12:25pm paul: Almost went to see Nick last year. But he is oh so mellow these days. I realize he's not a crazy popster anymore, but the energy is just missing. Still a great songwriter. Among the best. BTW happy belated 70th to Bobby Zimmerman.
	12:34pm paul: Every live appearance I've seen of Nick in the last five years....on the tube, but the video don't lie....is nice and sweet, but fairly lifeless. True, I was not at the last show. I hope I am wrong. That would be a nice surprise. Glad we agree on Radiohead.

	12:45pm Bob: I also don't get the people who think Nick suddenly turned into a maker of old man music. What he's been doing the last decade or so is pretty much what he's always done since the Brinsley Schwarz days. If anything, the trashy, low-budget singles from the late 70's were the aberration in his career. It all sounds like Nick Lowe music to me. I think he's aged better than just about any artist you can name. He's a class act.

	12:56pm drr: Gil Scott-Heron and Shirley Ellis: some similarities-- Both had two hits that could be called gimmicky (Shirley: Name Game, Nitty Gritty; Gil: Revolution, Whitey's on the Moon). Both had a unique thing based on hip wordplay. Both were really funny without playing it for laughs.
