Hi Irwin!
  3:03pm
Matt from Springfield:

No 'lipsis!
  3:03pm
Matt from Springfield:

Shoved out--DE-NIED!
  3:03pm
G:

@Matt: Never jump to positive conclusions. The world will constantly disappoint you. :-)
  3:05pm
G:

Looking forward to Lorson after the recent trackage from her on this show...
  3:05pm
Matt from Springfield:

@G: That is actually quite true--I have assumed that some things were going be horrible, and of course they turned out better than I expected!
  3:05pm
WILDNEIL:

Hi Irwin! Whatever happened to Wildgirl?
  3:06pm
G:

Better for the overall mood to be pleasantly surprised by good things than constantly frustrated after positive assumptions didn't work out.
  3:08pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

or remain neutral AT ALL TIMES!
  3:10pm
Ike:

Hey Neil, didn't Wildgirl become allergic to the city and move out to the Midwest to grow catnip? She was back for the 50th (?) anniversary weekend bash. It's in the archives somewhere.
  3:10pm
don:

Swiss Corporate Eyes
  3:11pm
WILDNEIL:

@DCE-so be content, whether things are "good" or "bad"?
  3:11pm
WILDNEIL:

@IKE-
Thanks!
  3:13pm
G:

Catch phrase in Joyce's _Ulysses_:

Marie Kendall, charming soubrette

(it refers to a 1904 Dublin billboard for a music-hall performer that pops up multiple times in the book)

(that's my only prior acquaintance with the old-timey word soubrette)
  3:13pm
Matt from Springfield:

@don: Swiss Chocolate Eyes!
  3:14pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

that's my favorite kind of candy!
  3:15pm
Matt from Springfield:

It is a lovely chocolate!
And, by altering yet another word, we get...

Swiss Chocolate Ice!
Yum, I'd like a cone of Swiss chocolate ice!
  3:16pm
Mike East:

I just got an email request for studio space from Sonny Rollins Band and at first glance, thought it was Rollins Band...which is a bit different
  3:16pm
Dictionarium:

Soubrette
"1. a. A saucy, coquettish, intriguing maidservant in comedies or comic opera.
b. An actress or a singer taking such a part.
2. A young woman regarded as flirtatious or frivolous.

[French, from Provençal soubreto, feminine of soubret, conceited, from soubra, to leave aside, from Old Provençal sobrar, to be excessive, from Latin superre, from super, above]"
  3:17pm
don:

oh ya, Matt. need me some choclate ice. already fallen for a swiss woman too... And I never did get around to telling you, but i was impressed by your high pitched scream on the command of clay pigeon a couple weeks ago? or whenever that was.
  3:17pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

Sonny Rollins/Rollins Band collaboration in the works. WOWZA!
  3:17pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Mike: Didn't you say they came to your studio before?
  3:18pm
Matt from Springfield:

@DCE: "The Angry Saxophones feat. The Rollinses"
  3:20pm
Mike East:

Yes, Sonny was, not Henry...that's why I was surprised at first.
  3:20pm
?:

philly joe on brushes sounded really nice
  3:23pm
Dave B:

"Gin House Blues" was my theme over the weekend.

Killed a bottle of Junipero and half way thru a Breucklen...
  3:23pm
Dave B's Liver:

HELP ME
  3:24pm
Dave B:

I had some help, but what better way to ride out the storm!
  3:25pm
G:

@Dave's Liver: We all have jobs to do. Man up.
  3:28pm
Matt from Springfield:

@don: Oh, thanks! It's difficult for me to make a high pitch that doesn't crack out, so I just went to my stairwell, and screamed while doing it! Yeah, that was fun. It's always great to get "the Clay Pigeon treatment".
  3:31pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Dave: Is Junipero that boutique gin from San Francisco? I've heard of some, and I LOVE gin myself. The problem is most are found on the West Coast only.
  3:34pm
trish:

Enjoyed last week's Tullis and Clark. And this.
Dahh taaaah.
  3:36pm
Dave B:

@Matt - yessir. Distilled at the Anchor Brewing company

Breucklen is a local sauce - their distillery is on 19th Street in Brooklyn.
  3:40pm
Matt from Springfield:

Sweet! I enjoy Anchor Steam's brews, they sell several seasonal and special brews at beer stores here. I'm gonna try to procure a bottle of that Junipero!
  3:41pm
Woo:

Gimmer some Greco!
  3:57pm
Matt from Springfield:

Live music time!
Welcome, Mary Lorson!
  3:58pm
Matt from Springfield:

Hey Ernie! I've really been digging your engineering for all these live sets lately!
  3:59pm
Khris:

Hello Mary from Iowa! Thanks for having her on the show!
  4:02pm
WILDNEIL:

Mary-
You are a wonderful singer, thanks for being on the show!!
  4:05pm
Matt from Springfield:

  4:23pm
ginger tim:

gear geek asks: what's being played thru what?
  4:25pm
G:

there needs to be an online tuning fork at youtune.com

really nice set...
  4:31pm
Robert:

Well, Wildneil, when HotRod was on the schedule a while ago, I got her (or him) mixed up with WildGirl just on strained thematic relationship. I'm easy to confuse that way.when it comes to remembering people.
  4:35pm
dale:

beautiful set. a far cry from your love of mylie cyrus, irwin. huzzah!

Thanks, Laura!
  4:44pm
Matt from Springfield:

(e-Tumultous Applause!)

Thanks for coming down from Ithaca to WFMU, that was a wonderful set Mary!
  4:56pm
Matt from Springfield:

Ah, this Greek rock is good! I thought it was Arabic or Middle Eastern, but this is great foreign [80s?] pop!
  5:00pm
Matt from Springfield:

Likewise this "Rumba Jazz" comp, I've liked the songs off of this one.
  5:03pm
Innervisions Fan:

Well, it's about time Irwin! I thought you'd forgotten all about this album the last several weeks! You're so easily distracted!
  5:04pm
G:

Golden Lady -- Last song on side one of the original album. Which cuts were bad on that album, for its time?
  5:07pm
Katya:

agreed, G
  5:09pm
Clark Barr:

I got to get up for the down load...
  5:10pm
G:

Suckage? Can you give us an example?
  5:11pm
Mike East:

aahahahahahahaha! My favorite, so far.
  5:12pm
Matt from Springfield:

A Great Many is a good remixer! We're entering new "postcommercial" territory here!

Evil Robotic Autotune!!! Which is pretty much regular Autotune, but still, this is unique.
  5:12pm
Matt from Springfield:

Oooh! YT page!
  5:12pm
G:

Kars 4 Kids is orthodox jews trying to get goys to pay for their child charity organizations with the lure of cute kids and a tax deduction. Check online for exposés.
  5:14pm
Horrified Commuter:

........
  5:14pm
hamburger:

ah heard this from Curb Your Enthusiasm :D
  5:15pm
Mike East:

I swear to god I was just listening to the West Side Story Soundtrack on Sunday...don't know why. I just came across it in my record collection and felt inspired. Good call, Irwin.
  5:15pm
Katya:

Brilliant scam! Reading up now.
  5:16pm
Ike:

West Side Story? Jesus H. Christ on a pogo stick. I wonder how big a dip the streaming numbers are taking right now. Heh.
  5:17pm
Lizardner Dave:

JONESY!!!!
  5:17pm
G:

Some people actually listen on a radio. Visit a media museum if you've never seen one.
  5:19pm
PiLA:

what did I miss?
  5:19pm
ginger tim:

So what should it be called, Kars 4 Yid Kids??
  5:19pm
Matt from Springfield:

@hamburger: This is the first I heard of "Gee Officer Krupke"! I've never seen West Side Story but heard various songs from it. I'm surprised I haven't heard that one, it's the funniest song from the show!
  5:20pm
Matt from Springfield:

@P[ete]i[n]LA: I missed your new abbreviation.
  5:21pm
Katya:

Celebrate Radio! http://www.facebook.com/pages/National-Radio-Day/265938896751291
  5:21pm
hamburger:

@Matt heh - think that's the only song I know from it cos of that.......

AMANDA!
  5:22pm
Katya:

After show, we really should get plastered and raid Circus World. Whay have we not done this yet?
  5:23pm
Clark Barr:

A day without Amanda is like a day without sunshine!
  5:23pm
Ike:

Yeah @G, good point. That includes me on nights and weekends. But you can measure web listening far more easily and accurately. Not that it matters.
  5:23pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Katya: Every time I try, I find I'm too Plastered to find Circus World. Let's start Googling Circus World now, then get Plastered AFTER we raid!
  5:24pm
G:

Thank g-d (or whatever) that The Powers That Be ended the no-Amanda timeout on this program some weeks back.
  5:24pm
Joe Bacon:

I confess. I did get plastered in Jumbo's Clown Room.
  5:25pm
Katya:

;D Life is better with Jody and Mimi. Nutty kids!
  5:26pm
G:

It's a methodological issue, Ike. A definite number (current streamers) plus an unknown number (radio listeners) still comes to an unknown number. But when only has one limited metric, bias can occur by overfocusing on that more definitively measurable component.
  5:27pm
Joe Bacon:

Uh, oh! I did google Circus World. It's a John Wayne movie...
  5:27pm
Listening Out There:

Never heard "Hammer." Phenomenal...
  5:27pm
Katya:

Matt, looks like CIrcus World is dead. Dead, baby, dead. Maybe we should just head to Circus Circus?
  5:28pm
Katya:

Joe, it used to be a national toy store chain, too.
  5:29pm
Joe Bacon:

Katya, I'm just recovering from the trauma of Amanda's obsession with a bad John Wayne movie...
  5:29pm
Corporate Raider:

Let's get plastered and raid Kay-Bee!
  5:30pm
Katya:

Here's hoping no one leaves the show with Megumi Hari's cover stuck in their noggin.
  5:31pm
Joe Bacon:

Things could be worse. It could be Pink Lady covering that...
  5:36pm
Ken:

Tonight at 6pm, Seven Second Delay Becomes The 1st Radio show in History to Offer Listeners Insurance Policies to Cover Future Mishaps.
  5:37pm
Ken's Waterlogged Moldy Albums:

NOW he figures this out, the genius.
  5:38pm
Matt from Springfield:

So, the premise is: You give 7SD money, and they MIGHT give you money back.
  5:39pm
Ajax:

I really look forward to my weekly dose of Amanda. Today's was exceptionally great. Thank you!
  5:41pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Joe: I know who you're talking about--I'm surprised network TV, in 1980, would give them a show.
  5:41pm
Mike East:

I once went on a date with a girl who wouldn't stop talking about how she used to go out with Mike Doughty.
  5:42pm
Lizardner Dave:

This is on "Haughty Melodic"
  5:42pm
Girl Mike Used to Date:

It's a Mike Doughty world, Mike, and you're just renting a space in it.
  5:43pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Ajax: Excellent indeed! I would rec the "title" track of that album (from a line in "Profane Thoughts On A Car Trip")--one of my fav Amanda tracks!
  5:43pm
Girl Mike Used to Date:

Fortunately for you your name is at least Mike, or you would never have gotten my digits.
  5:47pm
Matt from Springfield:

YESSS!!! TY IRWIN!!! You saw my comment last week!

This guy makes The Old Codger seem a reserved gentleman.
  5:50pm
Irwin:

Thanks Lizardman
  5:50pm
Laura L:

This is a great song by Marie Frank--wish Neill Furio and Marie would do some new stuff.
  5:51pm
Irwin:

This song is LITERATE.
  5:55pm
Laura L:

Literate and melancholy but sort of upbeat. Whereas this Chickencoop song is architectural and cinematic in a chicken-coopy kind of way.
  5:56pm
G:

Marie's website is in Danish, but fortunately I had to study Danish a little once for a research project...
  5:57pm
G:

I should have added -- http://mariefrank.dk/
  5:58pm
...:

Thanks Irwin.
  5:58pm
Matt from Springfield:

Great show! Thanks Irwin! And thanks Mary Lorson!
