  1:11pm
Russ:

Bob Bert! Cool.
  1:17pm
Robert:

So Bob Bert as a child would actually stretch out a bath in the hope of hearing certain pieces on the radio? What, the transistor radio was allowed only in the bathroom, or it was the only place he was alone to control it?
  1:19pm
glenn:

bob sounds like a bit of an old school hippy, in the good way.
  1:21pm
obo:

Bob was a beatnik jazzscat!
  1:23pm
nacho:

saludos al gran Bob Bert desde Chile!
  1:24pm

what's the difference between The Young Rascals and The Rascals?
what's the difference between Good Lovin' and The Lovin' Spoonful?
  1:25pm
Cecile:

tuning for a bit. Yay, rascals.
  1:25pm
obo:

The Go totally ripped this sound off!
  1:26pm
Cecile:

Young Rascals are the same as the Rascals. The little Rascals are not. The Young Rascals/Rascals did Good Lovin'. The Lovin' Spoonful did not.
  1:27pm
glenn:

possibly my fave alice tune. also the first one i learned to play completely through on guitar.

Best Alice Cooper LP evah.
  1:29pm
Bill:

This is remarkable. I am 57. Bob is 55. He was in New Jersey and I was on Long Island. But we discovered all of the same things at the same time: The Band at the Felt Forum, Warhol's Trash, the Dolls, Bowie, CBGG's... Great to hear his recollections.
  1:30pm
Dave M:

So good I had to say it twice.
  1:31pm
obo:

imagine Bob air-drumming to these

imagine Bob with feathered rooster hair and platform boots and lightening strike face make*up
  1:32pm
glenn:

i notice he didn't mention kiss. bob has taste.
  1:32pm

Saw Dan and have all his albums. Saw John Cale play at the old Ocean Club downown. A friend saw Ian Hunter recently and said he was great.
  1:49pm
josh:

Bob should have his own show.
  1:49pm
Cecile:

I keep missing the interview. Bah. work getting in the way of important stuff.
  1:49pm
bill:

Hard to believe most of this stuff was on major labels
  1:50pm
Bill:

I'd love to hear his album collection. Like to hear his recommendations for concerts to see now.
  1:51pm
glenn:

there's a john cale album that has little feat as his band, but i can't remember which one off the top of my head. maybe paris 1919.
  1:52pm
Cecile:

I believe that is the one, glenn.
They could do that now, but people don't.
  1:53pm
Cecile:

Human Switchboard - they were a great band. Unfortunately, they were stuck opening for Toots and the Maytals (!!!!) in '82 in Ann Arbor
  1:54pm
glenn:

one thing i've discovered is that musicians are far less snobby about music than most listeners. they just want to play.
  1:56pm
bill:

Loutallica, people
  1:57pm
Cecile:

Eh, good for them. Kids are having fun.
  1:57pm
bill:

I got No New York, listened to it once, never played it again, it sat untouched in the basement for years and years, and then I dropped it off at the Salvation Army... oh the pain, the pain
  1:59pm
dc pat:

man, Contortions never get old.
  2:00pm
Bill:

James Chance is on No New York. He was great to see in concert. Very intense performer. A little like Van Morrison
  2:00pm
glenn:

my cat hated this record.
  2:00pm
Cecile:

I got my copy as a cutout at the dearly missed Schoolkids' in ann arbor
  2:01pm
paula pc:

@ dc pat -- jinx. amazing amazing amazing. Diane and Bob, THANK YOU so much...
  2:01pm
bill:

Maybe Van Morrison crossed with Iggy Pop. When I saw them he kept stepping on this one photographer's face. But what a great set
  2:05pm
Bill:

I"m laughing. James Chance was tighly wound. I can see him stepping on the photog's face. Iggy Pop is also great. Saw him do a "sneak" preview of his big arena act at Coney Island High a few years ago. One of the best concerts I've been to.
  2:11pm
some other guy:

Press Color is great. Shame most if not all of the reissues that arrived in the US were sealed with mildew.
  2:11pm
Cecile:

Birthday Party's studio version is AWESOME.
originally it was on a split 12" with Lydia Lunch.
  2:11pm
Cecile:

It was the "Drunk on the Pope's Blood" 12"
  2:13pm
Cecile:

I was a big Birthday Party/Nick Cave completist until he "matured."
  2:13pm
glenn:

pat place photos. -http://www.roir-usa.com/news/2008/12/pat_place_bush_tetras_aamp_contortions_p/
i mean photos she took, not of her.
  2:14pm
dc pat:

I saw Nick last year and he totally ripped the house down.
  2:16pm
Cecile:

I''ll take you word for it, dcp. I was going to see Grinderman, but I ended up having to go out of town. :( Heard it was great.
  2:17pm
dc pat:

I blew off Grinderman but wish I hadn't after the solo show.
  2:28pm
Cecile:

The Bob years were probably my favorite SY years, although they have had high points since.
  2:30pm
dc pat:

jeeze Cecile, I was about to say the same thing...
  2:30pm
stvn:

This is freakin amazing!
  2:31pm
other david:

I loved the total rawness of Bob Bert era Sonic Youth, I loved them for other reasons once Steve came on board, for a long time they kept evolving, that's what made them great
  2:33pm
dc pat:

I loved hardcore but I did think it was too uniform-obsessed.
  2:36pm
BSI:

Jeezus, to think of all the cash I sunk into Pier Platters. Haven't heard that name in a dog's age...
  2:37pm
mikey from phx:

currently ripping my old discs - and here's neubauten's feurio mini - nice
  2:38pm
BSI:

@dc pat: I agree. Was a huge fan of select hardcore, but found most of the Dischord output infuriatingly precious. The filthy stuff was much more interesting.
  2:38pm
Cecile:

exactly, dcp
  2:38pm
Cheri Pi:

I just purchased PG's Exhile on Mainstreet on 7" this weekend!!!
  2:38pm
obo:

PUSSY GOLD
  2:39pm
Cecile:

I liked the big names, but really some of my favorite HC were offbeat - Angry Red Planet, GI, Sorry...
  2:40pm
bill:

Congrats Cheri Pi. Are the songs 10 seconds each or what?
  2:40pm
slugluv1313:

just tuning in now -- WAY COOL!!!!! PUSSY GALORE!!!!!! YAY!!!!!!! HI DIANE!!!!!!! and great big HOBOKEN HELLO to Mr. BOB BERT!!!!!!!
  2:41pm
Cheri Pi:

Angry Red Planet played all the time in Newport KY at the Jockey Club, they were one of my first punk shows in 1985.
  2:41pm
Cheri Pi:

Bill, I haven't listened to it yet! I'll report back when I do.
  2:42pm
dc pat:

ah, I like Dischord. to me the promise of punk rock was that you could do whatever you wanted but it seemed like everybody preferred to be told what to do..that's what was infuriating to me.

man this show is great.
  2:43pm
Nick Sakes:

Bob: do you remember playing in St. Louis in PG at the Bernard Pub? I promoted that show.
  2:43pm
Moserite:

Hey Bob, How did Jon and Neil get along in Pussy Galore? Seems like they're not very friendly these days. Neil seemed like the real inventive one, judging by his post PG output.
  2:47pm
BSI:

Cecile 2:39: fine choices. There was a good stretch in the late '80s when it seemed like GI was playing constantly at the Hung Jury Pub here in DC. I practically lived there. Christ on a Crutch and Tiny Desk Unit were also worthy of great praise.... Sarcastic Orgasm as well, but THAT was a different world....
  2:49pm
dc pat:

Tiny Desk Unit = one of the best group names ever. never saw 'em.
  2:49pm
Cheri Pi:

Hey,
My Bill W is in the Chrome Cranks. BB is hitting all points today.
  2:49pm
Cecile:

Oh! And Black Market Baby and Gray Matter.
  2:52pm
glenn:

huh. i met larissa many many years ago when she was working at a record convention in toronto. i had no idea who she was.
  2:53pm
Cecile:

I saw Laughing Hyenas a lot. They just never blew me away. I guess i saw them in the early years before they'd perfected everything..
  2:55pm
Cecile:

gotta go, looking forward to catching the rest on archives. Diane, you never fail to disappoint.
  2:55pm
bill:

Thanks Bob and DK. Wunnerful, wunnerful show
  2:55pm
slugluv1313:

cannot wait to see that book, Bob! WOW!!! i still have a buncha BBGUN issues, so i know that your book is going to be totally killer!!!!!
  2:57pm
BSI:

Another star in Cecile's notebook: Senseless Offerings and that first Gray Matter LP were lovely things.
.....btw: great show, as usual, dk...
  2:59pm
Cheri Pi:

VoiVoD!!!
  2:59pm
bill:

new Chrome Cranks sounded great
  2:59pm
nacho:
