Listener comments!

  12:05pm
Cecile:

Ask Stephen if people walk up to him and tell him their "I fell asleep at a Sunn 0))) concert: stories.
  12:05pm
bill:

Can't wait to hear from Mr. O'Malley!
  12:06pm
Cecile:

and, yay Effigies!
  12:06pm
northguineahills:

Sweet O'Malley!
  12:08pm
northguineahills:

Damn, forgot to wash my hands after cutting my fire escape grown habaneros. Now my eyes aren't so happy.
  12:08pm
Cheri Pi:

SOMA SOMA SOMA!!
  12:12pm
Richard from Venezuela:

Happy new year Diane.
  12:12pm
Mike East:

@ngh - make sure you wash your hands atleast 3 times before using the bathroom. I've made that mistake more than once.
  12:13pm
Cecile:

Play some Loudness!
Rock 'n' Roll Crazy Nights!
  12:15pm
northguineahills:

@Mike East: Me too! I'm starting to build an tolerance w/ my eyes, but not my nether regions!
  12:19pm
bill:

Hey folks, what's the scariest stuff you've ever heard? For me it's either Khanate or Khlyst.
  12:19pm
Cecile:

Bread.
that guy is dark. I'm not kidding.
  12:20pm
Cecile:

After that, the first time I heard Halber Mensch by Einsturzende Neubaten.
  12:21pm
bill:

Bread? The Guitar Man??
  12:21pm
andymorphic:

funny i read a similar question on reddit last night...any old Einsturzende Neubaten was my responce
  12:23pm
Cecile:

yes. He's so depressing.

Also, Scratch Acid live were terrifying. Not for me, but I feared for David Yow's sanity.
  12:23pm
Cheri Pi:

Khanate's makes me feel like throwing up just thinking about it. scary stuff indeed. I need to hug my cat now.
  12:24pm
bill:

Thanks Cecile, I will definitely check out Halber Mensch
  12:24pm
Cecile:

another creepy song is Ambrosia's "How Much I Feel." That skeeved me out more than the Swans.
  12:24pm
Cecile:

If you can see the original album cover - it's also pretty nuts - it had bloody teeth around the edge as a border.
  12:25pm
Cheri Pi:

Diane I need a warning before you play the scary stuff!
  12:25pm
Cecile:

Bread is like the serial killer that passes for a nice neighbor. that's scary. More straightforward maniacs you get enough signals to stay far away.
  12:26pm
andymorphic:

doesn't Halber Mensch have that track that basically sounds like drowning?
  12:27pm
Cheri Pi:

Don't google this band Decapitado.
  12:27pm
andymorphic:

lol....dig does wet towel drums
  12:27pm
Cecile:

yep!
  12:28pm
bill:

I had a friend who was so freaked out by Brujeria she literally broke the headphones tearing them off
  12:30pm
Stevel:

Cheri Pi: Thanks for trying to warn me, Of course, I had to look. Yipes!
  12:31pm
bill:

Yeah, thanks for the reverse psych, Cheri PI, now I'm mentally throwing up a little too
  12:31pm
Cheri Pi:

I lways use the world "Band" now in the googlygoogly
  12:32pm
Cheri Pi:

Where's the damn cat!!!
  12:32pm
still b/p:

Fear of Ambrosia is interesting. How Much I Feel seemed like banal shmaltzpop audio wallpaper when it was in heavy rotation on an automated FM in the area where I lived at the time. What's the skeeveriffic element...?
  12:34pm
Cecile:

Basically,
"I'm making love to my wife and I still see your face. If you come back, I will forgive you. I know you're in a really happy relationship but I had to put that out there. Probably to make you feel like crap."
  12:34pm
Ines:

Hi Diane, which song is behind while you are speaking? thanx
  12:34pm
Cecile:

It's very passive aggressive yet kind of nihilistic.
  12:36pm
Cecile:

very stalkery.
  12:36pm
r i s k y:

GO DIANE!!! Take them to the riff ranch!
  12:39pm
bill:

I wonder what other horrors are passed off in banal sounding radio pap? The Gores were barking up the wrong tree maybe
  12:40pm
andymorphic:

totally forgot about effigies...used to love them
  12:45pm
Cecile:

I always said that, bill!
There were so many gross songs out there couched in a smooth melody.
  12:56pm
Tony:

Okay. I'm a drum eyes fan now.
  12:56pm
v:

o))) yeah
  1:00pm
northguineahills:

One of my favorite Sun 0))) tracks ever!
  1:01pm
r i s k y:

RIFF RANCH!
  1:03pm
Cecile:

that's practically hooky for them.
  1:04pm
dc pat:

andymorphic: Hey that's mine! "wet towel drums"
  1:10pm
andymorphic:

well you were at lunch....someone had to speak up
  1:11pm
dc pat:

oh, well alright then...
  1:14pm
dc pat:

this is fucking GREAT!!!
  1:14pm
Cecile:

hraaaaaaaaaaaaaawr. I agree.
  1:16pm
andymorphic:

where are we on this playlist????
  1:18pm
Tony R.:

Akira Sakata
  1:21pm
dc pat:

it's not actually mine anyway, I think that's how Entwistle referred to the drum sound on Tommy...
  1:22pm
bill:

What does SO think about Sunn 0))) playing outdoors (e.g. Barcelona 2009)? It seems like much of the effect would be lost
  1:22pm
andymorphic:

i used to play with a guy who thought all real drums sounded like cardboard boxes
  1:23pm
Cecile:

south of france
nice
  1:24pm
Emmanuel Leroy:

Please, please, what was the song's title of akira sakata???? Which album? Thanks
  1:27pm
bill:

Actually Into the Abyss is Herzog's latest, an interview with a death row inmate
  1:30pm
Cheri Pi:

I'm back from lunch now in case you were wondering.
  1:32pm
Brian:

WIll SoMA be doing any shows in NYC when he is here for the Biennal ?
  1:33pm
Cheri Pi:

We can read kanji, post it.
  1:39pm
Cecile:

Eyvind Kang is insane. Great arranger.
  1:42pm
Nick S:

Great show, Diane!!
  1:48pm
northguineahills:

Eyvind Kang is one of my heroes. Everything he touches is gold. I'm lucky to have been able to seen him thrice.
  1:48pm
bruceleh:

Can someone explain to me the appeal of death metal?
  1:49pm
Cecile:

You are lucky, ngh.
hey, does Stephen like anything just a hair lighter? Like the Swans?
  1:50pm
bill:

Speaking of Austerity Program, they have a great video on YouTube on the "appeal" of black metal
  1:51pm
Tom L.:

Diane's Kamikaze DEATH Machine. Awesome!Awesome!Awesome!Awesome!
  1:54pm
slugluv1313:

just looked up the lyrics to "How Much I Feel" -- EWWWWWWWW, Cecile, you are totally right on! but like still b/p says, it was like non-descript-background-"pop" music way back when it was a hit, never knew the lyrics -- WHO KNEW!

many years ago, dear Lux Interior (RIP) said in an interview something about how the serial killers "never look like me" -- they always look like totally non-descript "normal" guys!
  1:55pm
Cecile:

Finnish is a snap.
Just pronounce it BAH-bah-bah-bah-bah.
  1:57pm
Jeff:

haha, metal zone pedals!
Stephen, ever hear any heavy bands from Baltimore?
  1:58pm
Amy:

I love the sound of the Finnish language.
  2:02pm
Cecile:

  2:12pm
Shawn:

Mayor, Obviously you haven't heard of Tom Of Finland.
  2:13pm
Amy:

Thanks Cecile - I'll check it out.
  2:15pm
Cecile:

  2:20pm
Mayor:

Is he into fish schlapping?
  2:20pm
bill:

Doom Loons!
  2:24pm

Ooooo)))MG.
  2:42pm
joe:

cool, thank you.
  2:42pm
northguineahills:

Scelsi is an interesting dude. Didn't like to be photographed. Tried to be represented by a symbol before Prince got the idea, . Oh, and his music kicks ass!
  2:44pm
bill:

Careful with that cat, Cheri Pi
  2:44pm
Cheri Pi:

Well since you opened that door Amy, Stephen is quite dreamy.
  2:50pm
northguineahills:

I'm trying to remember if this is where the Scottish band, Konx-Om-Pax got their name or was it from Crowley. Probably Crowley.
  2:50pm
Cheri Pi:

@bill-that's funny
  2:51pm
Caryn:

What the hell happened? I go out for a bit to get groceries, I come back to see that I missed a whole Finnish discussion on the comments board!?!
  2:51pm
Cecile:
