  12:11pm

  12:16pm

Avatar 12:17pm

OOPS! That was me, not Jason!
  12:18pm
Cecile:

Cheri Pi:

  12:45pm
David Shortell:

Candlemass: an apt music selection for this February 2, though the playlist archive shows you didn't play this band on Candlemas of 2006!
  12:50pm
Lefty McGillachuddy:

Great Stuff keep Rocking like only you could!!
  12:51pm
Cecile:

Good, I missed the Edguy.
  12:52pm
Cecile:

that CNN piece was suprisingly non sensational.
  12:52pm
Dave B:

Is that a hurry gurdy in the Eluveitie photo?
  12:59pm
efd:

  1:01pm
Dave B:

  1:17pm
joe:

'ello folks
  1:18pm
Cecile:

ha! BSI, I almost got one when I was into Hedningarna in the late 90s.
  1:18pm
Cecile:

Diane, who was the biggest oddball band there? The one that stuck out the most as being different.
  1:20pm
joe:

Eluveitie first time I heard these guys is when my wife was getting a tattoo a few weeks back.
  1:23pm
BSI:

@Cecile: a quick search reveals a hurdygurdy maker that offers active pickups for amplification... oh hell... time to start selling blood & plasma.
  1:24pm
Joel Gausten:

Loving the accents on these station IDs. :)
Avatar 1:24pm
kamikaze:

I'd have to say Dark Funeral; the only black metal band (that I knew of) - corpse paint and leather outfits like a cross between a turtle and something out of Lord of the Rings. Last year Marduk was the only black metal band.
  1:25pm
chris:

Missed you, Diane! So awesome to have you back on board FMU!
  1:29pm
Cecile:

yeah, it seems like it's mostly power, doom and thrash metal bands. And not crossover faves.
  1:29pm
highlander:

i put on my cape and polish my sword to this Amorphis song
  1:30pm
Cecile:

i see a tailcoat!
Avatar 1:30pm

Alestorm played; I heard they were good, but to me they are a one trick pony - Beer Metal with a keytar!

kamikaze:

Bands I had an idea of what they were about and did not see:: Nightwish, Stratovarius, Kamelot, Tristania, Virgin Steele, Vicious Rumors, Children of Bodom
  1:34pm
joe:

Any abosolutly never heard them before I was so blown away moments?
  1:35pm
Ken From Hyde Park:

I saw a piece on Nightwish the other night on TV. They're from Finland.
  1:38pm
Cecile:

They are huge in certain parts of Europe. It was big news to some folks when their first singer left.
Avatar 1:41pm
kamikaze:

They were the best received and merchandised band on the boat- they sold 2x the amount of gear of any band there. The bassist sang guest vocals with Amorphis and people were out of their minds!
  1:42pm
Cecile:

They're very popular with US Goths.
  1:44pm
Steve-O:

Hey Diane! Loving your program so far. BTW, is Therion British? Or are they German?
  1:47pm
Cecile:

I can imagine Amorphis being really good.
  1:52pm
Cecile:

Love Annihilator.
  1:56pm
Eric Lau:

Me too!!!!!
  1:57pm
Adam in Portland:

Cecile, you, of course, have impeccable taste! I used to play a lot of Annihilator when I had a metal radio show in Alaska. Jeff from the band was always one of the genuinely nicest guys to talk to.
  1:58pm
Cecile:

I always liked their variety and the fact their lyrics are actually kinda smart.
Also, they did the best AC/DC cop - Shallow Grave.
  1:59pm
Cecile:

It's nice to know Jeff Waters is a decent dude, too.
Avatar 2:00pm
kamikaze:

Therion are from Sweden
  2:04pm
Steve-O:

@kamikaze: Thanx. =)

@Adam: Cool stuff, man. Gonna try to catch them on YT sometime. =)
  2:04pm
Cecile:

Hammerfall = running up the hill in your chain mail brandishing your sword metal.
  2:08pm
Adam in Portland:

Thanks, Steve-O! Jeff Waters is a real trooper! Running us through. :-)
  2:10pm
Destroit:

Hammerfall= running up a mountain wearing short shorts wielding a fancy walking stick and an attitude. This, actually, is a good thing. :)
  2:16pm
Adam in Portland:

Hammerfall = laboriously trudging up a ramp at the botanical gardens employing a Grab-It. Like me.
  2:18pm
Adam in Portland:

RAT SKATES!
  2:23pm
Destroit:

This show is great. Usually working at this time, first I've heard of it.
  2:24pm
Adam in Portland:

Diane is mighty!
  2:28pm
Cecile:

Hammerfall = being first in the checkout line at the Costco with a minimum number of enemy casualties
  2:31pm
Adam in Portland:

Hammerfall = lying supine across a beanbag chair with a plate of figs within arm's reach while thinking of your favorite Manet piece.
  2:33pm
Cecile:

Beta Flash stream is buggy for me today.
  2:35pm
Cheri Pi:

the last 6 songs have all been especially killer!!!
  2:37pm
FLORIDIAN RETIREE:

MASSACRE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  2:40pm
Reuben in NJ:

Hammerfall = playing the latest version of Microsoft flight sim with joystick and headset; sweating, with heart racing, as you fly through a turbulent low pressure system
  2:42pm
Eric Lau:

I agree Cheri Pi! Thanks Diane!
  2:45pm
Adam in Portland:

Hammerfall = making cream cheese popovers in the WFMU kitchen while wearing a kiss the cook apron and then getting on the station intercom to ask that everyone report to the welcome table.
  2:46pm
Adam in Portland:

She's wiiiiiillllld, Diane, wiiiiiilllllld!
  2:47pm
Eric Lau:

indeed, indeed...
  2:47pm
glenn:

hammerfall = cinnamon buns.
  2:48pm
glenn:

  2:58pm
Adam in Portland:

Oh, Ludichrist! Show's nearly over. Thanks, Diane, for another remarkable one. The PEER PRESSURE segments are amazing. I loved hearing your recap of 70,000 Tons of Metal. Death to false WFMU!
