Street interviews, listener call-ins, vinyl gluttery, sporadic normalcy, original floperas and fiktion, blatant talking over songs, politix, tenderness, and a vague undercurrent of angst. Right up your alley!

ERROR ... first off, this show was rushed. In my estimation, this Dusty Show is not running on all cylinders. I may have been suffering from some degree of sickness and burn-out, after a lingering multi-week cold. I am not sure why I play something about badgers, and then go into a monologue about chinchillas. It was an error. I had meant to start my monologue by talking about a badger I once saw by the side of the road in Iowa, but in my half-mindedness, I skipped right over it and started in about chinchillas. This is most likely because the sample I used of the animal sound at the beginning of the monologue is from a track called 'The Chinchilla Show" on the Firesign Theatre's 1972 LP, Dear Friends.

Thanks for checking out this episode of the Dusty Show. As I mentioned elsewhere in these notes, this one was rather rushed and assembled when I was sick with a lingering cold. I can tell. Also worried about my gear. Increasingly decrepit and hard to replace. I'll deal. That's all for this week. Thanks for your continued loyalty. I appreciate it. Check out an Occupy event near you and keep Occupying. Always remember. Clay - NYC

Okay, in Finnish they say they're too hippie, in English that they're "hip hop". Oh lord... Of course, Kaurismäki just said in an interview that the solution to the world's problems is to kill the 1 %. We Finns vary in our views on OWS.

I suspect those Finns vote more right wing, actually... (well, right wing for Finland)
  6:22pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Caryn: Though the Daves song has come before, owing to all of our Daves here!

So the Finns were probably trying to call themselves "hippie" but ended up calling themselves "hip hop"?

Avatar 6:24pm
Clay:

I didn't budget my time too well this week, so the show begins to suffer technically from here out. The first 15 were pretty good though!
  6:24pm
Caryn:

@Matt: no, they said that even though the goal of OWS is admirable, the protesters are too hippie/hip hop/whatever... So, OWS is too urban or too granola. Take your pick.
Avatar 6:24pm
Clay:

I hear that, Lucy.
  6:26pm

Oh man, this takes me back...

  6:30pm

@Caryn: Actually it would be good to combine urban and granola, since the urban poor in the US suffer malnutrition. Occupy would be perfect for combining them! :)

Lucy:

why do americans always want to transform political will into electoral politics? That's where movements truly go to die. The only reason the tea party was so "effective" in politics was because right wing congressmen took it as an excuse to push pro-rich policies that don't help tea party rank and file members at all, but convinced us that's what it was for.
  6:31pm
Caryn:

This is like the C&W version of "My Favourite Things".
  6:33pm
Caryn:

@Lucy: gotta agree about the Tea Party. The reason it got so big was the corporate sponsorships etc. that turned the TP into sheep for the 1 %.
  6:33pm
Marmalade Kitty:

occupy Granurbanola!
  6:34pm
moose:

there was a funny ad on the subway for some kind of bed bug remedy that said BAN BED BUGS from OCCUPYING your MATTRESS!
  6:34pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Lucy: The last five years of an unresponsive, bought-off Congress have taught me that it's probably better to, instead of forming an "advocacy group" or lobby or email campaign, why not form a VOLUNTEER group and do the things yourself?

No middlemen, no inflated profits, help those in need directly!
  6:34pm
listener mark:

Hello Clay
Hello everyone
  6:35pm
david:

basically that guy from before the tape turn had the MSM OWS story down pat - doesn't exist because it's outside electoral politics, etc.
  6:35pm
Matt from Springfield:

Monsanto NO!
McDonalds NO!
Granurbanola YES!
Avatar 6:35pm

Great insight, Lucy.

@Caryn - I've been trying to embrace songs that used to irritate me. As a therapeudic exercise. The spell-chek is saying I spelled therapeudic wrong??

Welcome, Mark! Thanks for stopping by.
  6:36pm

therapeutic, Clay :)

Direct Action Gets the Goods as they say. Form networks of mutual aid and alternative economies, DIY or Die
  6:36pm
Matt from Springfield:

TherapeuTic, I think.
  6:38pm
Caryn:

Nice therapeutic exercise, BTW, Clay. Are you going to do a show with nothing but those types of songs? Or is that what this show is?
  6:38pm

Tina Fey = funny realistic
Julianne Moore = SCARY realistic

I just 'winged' it, Caryn. By the way everyone. I'm hosting for Fabio next week. 3-hours of music! Very good music, of course.
  6:40pm

The Finnish scifi comedy "Iron Sky" has Palin as POTUS. Played by Stephanie Paul. Don't know where that version falls on Matt's realism scale.
  6:41pm
Matt from Springfield:

ROCK IT, Clay!
(And...try to get Ken on mic again--we LOVE when you get Ken talking!)
  6:41pm

Occupy is dead because the Media doesn't cover it?
  6:42pm
Caryn:

Ooh, Clay. 4 straight hours of Clay!
  6:42pm
david:

Eviction Theater
  6:42pm
Matt from Springfield:

Wow, didn't realize Finns had a "scifi comedy" with Saracuda in it--though I guess the possibility of that woman becoming the leader of the Free World is concerning, and funny to those outside the US.
  6:42pm
Fredericks:

99% of everything must be dead, using that guy's logic.
  6:43pm
Marmalade Kitty:

beware, when peaceful movements "die"...
  6:43pm

@Fredericks: Obviously that interviewee doesn't listen to Clay!
Regardless of the MSM's interest in Occupy, the Revolution WILL be microcassette-recorded!

@Matt: yeah, it opens here this weekend. Don't know when it'll be in the States (or if it will even be in the theatres there, or just wind up straight-to-DVD).
  6:49pm
Matt from Springfield:

Speaking of "Eviction Theater", here's a link I posted back in January, right after Occupy Congress:
