Check out his photo! And with that voice, I wonder if Vermin is part Frog..
  6:07pm
John McCabe in L.A.:

does he have a boot on his head today?
  6:08pm
Matt from Springfield:

And the glitter bomb photo--superb! I'm saving that for my own collection!
  6:09pm
Caryn:

Can everyone still get a pony if he becomes president?
  6:09pm
Marshall Stacks:

Thank goodness the Fairness Doctrine is no longer in effect, or Mitt Romney'd be subbing for Andy on 7sd.
  6:09pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Caryn: Only if you first present proof that you've brushed your teeth.
  6:10pm
Very Berry Gordy:

Vermin Supreme -- of the Detroit Supremes?
  6:11pm
kat330:

And then his mother fired him.
  6:11pm
Caryn:

Gotta say that early on during the GOP debates, all of them seemed like "joke candidates".
  6:12pm
Matt from Springfield:

I like performance artists, particularly those who run "joke" campaigns and flirt with culture jamming.

And, his article has a link to: "Screaming Lord Sutch, a similar satirical politician in the United Kingdom, who founded the British Political Party Official Monster Raving Loony Party, which has comparably unusual election pledges."

That's an honor, to be compared with him!
  6:13pm
Caryn:

The Monster Raving Loony Party is always enjoyable.
  6:13pm
Philo Gristle:

I think they still do! Newts and Mittens!
  6:13pm
Matt from Springfield:

The Rent Is Too Damn High Guy! That's who I just thought the "presidential candidate guest" would be!

After all, isn't the Occupy movement just "The 1% Are Too Damn Powerful!" :)
  6:15pm
kat330:

Hey, Matt [off topic here]: Turns out I HAD called in to the original 7SD 50 states show 2.25.2004 -- at the 25:00 min. mark for Indiana. No wonder it felt so familiar. :)
  6:16pm
Josh:

I'm not sure. I've been in the subway. But I think u missed a legal ID at the top of the hour.
  6:16pm
david:

it's interesting to look at my Occupier friends' facebook pictures before and after Occupy...
  6:17pm
david:

@josh Fabio handled it

Hello Clay! listeners!

Matt from Springfield:

Lauren's in a band, Vermin's interviewing, they're usurping your roles, Clay!! :)
  6:21pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Philo: I think Vermin's just won Andy Breckman's endorsement, with his slogan "No Hope, No Change, and Bitter Disappointment"!
  6:21pm
kat330:

Hi, Clay!! :)
  6:23pm
kat330:

No time for feet of Clay -- step in!
  6:23pm
dc pat:

Kick ass show--Clay is THEE best show on FMU. I'm sorry but I cannot deal withMittens as pres. Obama is all we have folks. Anybody who becomes pres will be corrupt, but come. the fuck. on.
  6:24pm
kat330:

Lauren sounds a bit like Catherine Keener.
  6:24pm
Caryn:

They've occupied Clay's show.
  6:26pm
david:

they might hold the space and not leave! ;)
  6:27pm
Matt from Springfield:

Enjoyable as this interview experience is, I'm not ready for this to become a permanent CPPR--Clay Pigeon Public Radio! :)
  6:28pm
kat330:

@pat: In my alternate universe timeline, I've voted for McGovern, Anderson, Jackson, Nader, yada-yada-yada -- so whatever's led to to the 2000's is not my fault. ;)
  6:28pm
Philo Gristle:

No objection to fringe candidates -- voted happily for one back in 1994. Gobama, Barack'n'roll. Disappointed but certainly the options are insane.
  6:28pm
david:

very interesting: things on top of heads seems to = good memes
  6:31pm
Eo_Ki:

man its starting to get deep in here
  6:32pm
?:

i guess my problem with the occupiers is that i never believed in this system that they suddenly realize has let them down- i've been outside of it always
but anyway, how could we possibly go from a sort of cool president to a totally square president who's not even allowed to drink alcohol or coffee?
  6:32pm
Matt from Springfield:

But Vermin's a Wonderful Wingnut; a "Friendly Fascist".
  6:33pm
david:

yeah - Occupy does seem to have quite a number of former and/or current musicians... or maybe it's just that everyone's in a band these days...
  6:34pm
moose:

that was a good mittens piece in the voice
  6:34pm
Depressed Persian Cab Driver:

And when it gets deep you need good boots. Tingleys, the dairy farmer's standard, are what he appears to have on (actually an overboot)- I own a pair myself!
  6:34pm
dc pat:

I was a member of the green party. But WAH, lesser pf two evils--it's alwAys going to be that way!

Ahoy from Athens/Greece!
  6:36pm
dc pat:

Totally cool with what they're saying though...
  6:36pm
Pouissy Comitatus:

It has to "get worse first"? Remember George W. Bush? It did get worse first!
  6:36pm
|Tarquin Fin-tim-lin-bin-whin-bim-lim-bus-stop-F':

I support the Official Monster Raving Loony Party.
  6:36pm
Matt from Springfield:

That's a mistake - people will not learn. Things will get a lot worse before they get worse. Occupy, Get Out In The Streets, but Obama is a "normal" American president. Vote for him and see the good things about America continue, or else all of the good things about America will burn.
  6:36pm
Philo Gristle:

Should've said 1994 fringe candidate for President in Finland -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DsLlHnfPlVQ He ended in parliament and seems to have done good work.
  6:38pm
Matt from Springfield:

Ahoy Trespasser!
  6:39pm
Jello B:

Vote for me.
  6:39pm
kat330:

Good for you, Vermin! I fully concur on that issue. Met too many L's on the early BBSing system.
  6:40pm
Caryn:

@PG: oh man, recently he's gone down the drain, though.
  6:40pm
kat330:

[interesting I had a 666 math question on the "Rand Party" comment]
  6:42pm
Matt from Springfield:

@kat: I had a 666 answer on my Friendly Fascist comment!
  6:42pm
Philo Gristle:

@Caryn -- Crap. I'll hold on to my memories. He was the one bright light in the debates. But that was almost 20 years ago.
  6:45pm
m:

remember that page in Be Here Now- what did it say- police create hippies, hippies create police ?
i always think of that when i think of OWS
  6:45pm
G:

Maybe Kenzo wrote an algorithm into the math software that selects 666 answers in order to validate comments containing certain character strings. That would be his little joke :-) Who knows, though... :-)
  6:45pm
Caryn:

Also, I would think that any woman in the US who thinks the 2 parties are "just the same" has their head in the sand. One party signs in the Equal Pay Act, the other one says single parents are child abusers and women who suffer a miscarriage should be prosecuted.
  6:45pm
Marmalade Kitty:

I was watching a premiership football (soccer) game on the US station, fox sports. Two 45 minute halves.. no time out in soccer!this means no ads until half time! ..then you get the 60 second ad for erection medication!
  6:46pm
Rubin/Hoffman:

Will change come from within or without?
  6:47pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Kitty: That's the major financial sponsor of most American sports! Older men watching are evidently big customers!
  6:48pm
Ira Magaziner:

From within, boobalah, within.
  6:48pm
david:

"freaks and geeks" are OK as long as they don't have a political message
  6:50pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Lauren: People psychologically shy away from loud spectacles. Keeping some people to chant, and keeping other Occupiers in the same space "more accessible", as you already said. People may be more likely to stop and talk if there are Occupiers willing to talk with passers-by.
  6:51pm
Ira Magaziner:

@Kitty/Caryn/Matt: The illogic of pushing boner pills on a populace where birth control is discouraged: Is there anything more absurd and "doughy white, middle-aged men" driven than that?
  6:52pm
david:

@MFS occupiers and passersby talk all the time and occupy always reaches out... it's that next step of getting involved... we also have to ask exactly who we mean when we say "people" vs. occupiers...
  6:55pm
Matt from Springfield:

@david: People also shy from those asking for money or promoting religious tracts. The impression among some might be that Occupy is like a brainwashed cult; the impression to try to give is that: we're not here to hard sell you anything - we're just getting this message out. And you might find there are parts you agree with as well.
  6:56pm
Matt from Springfield:

@david: And I agree, I'm just thinking of the impressions of passers-by Lauren was talking about, and thinking of ways to make their message more "ordinary" and accessible.
  6:56pm
Caryn:

@Ira: I think it all works into the "quiverfull" mindset. But seriously, in recent months, it has started to seem like the GOP has put down their Ayn Rand for a minute to try and make "The Handmaid's Tale" reality. I want to yell at them: "It's not a utopian novel!" But then again, during the whole "Muppets are indoctrinating kids to be socialists" discussion, it was a conservative pundit who talked about the message of "The Matrix" being what the Agents believed in...
  6:56pm
Matt from Springfield:

Campaign Mis-Manager from Filthydelphia!!
  6:57pm
david:

again though, Matt, who are these "people," and what is "the impression" vis-a-vis occupy. these are important questions IMO
  7:01pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Ira: "Doughy white, middle-aged men" indeed! Very Newt of advertisers!

Most middle aged men I know though aren't particularly into fathering numerous kids--they and/or their partners are pretty much sterilized once they don't want kids. The conservative mindset is never about your OWN sexuality and privacy, just puritanical concern with others' sexuality.
  7:01pm
david:

if we start from the 1% mainstream's "message" of Occupy, calling that "their message," by definition that "message" never changes. otherwise the 1% aren't doing their jobs and risk termination
  7:01pm
kat330:

@Caryn: I don't know how you change the perspective of people who actually believe we can continue taking, taking, taking from this planet and - somehow -- it will all be okay. And the people who reproduce solely because they believe THEIR gene pool will produce the miracle who'll solve all our problems. How can that mindset be softened?
  7:03pm
kat330:

@Matt: [ok, a comments screw-up, I'm "Ira"] Not a single male office-holder in our community -- which, of course is 98% of all -- is anything BUT a doughy white middle-aged man. It's like a hive mind, too.
  7:04pm
Marmalade Kitty:

so happy you have the extra hour Clay! great guests!!
a fly on the wall documentary on nypd is needed.
  7:05pm
Caryn:

@kat: well, you can destroy the environment, because the Rapture is coming soon anyway, so who cares? That's the problem. Of course, just this week, they declared that environmentalists are minions of Satan, spreading lies under his orders, so... Sigh.
  7:06pm
m:

yeah mittens does believe the end times are coming- the only reason really needed for him to NOT be president
  7:06pm
Matt from Springfield:

Hence, invasive procedures for women only (solution: introduce a bill requiring rectal prostate check and stress test for men who want an ED prescription! Janet Howell, a state senator nearby me!)

For making welfare recipients take drug tests, solution: introduce a bill to make anyone who wants a tax return to take a drug test!
  7:09pm
Marmalade Kitty:

we're only following orders
  7:10pm
kat330:

It's too hard a sell getting the suit on Wall St. to care about the corner panhandler let alone relate to the starving Somali baby. I'm far more hopeful the egotistical "immortality" aspect of procreation will prompt some of the most powerful in our current regressive blip to favor long-term survival of personal lineage over short-term asset hording. IOW, some of the "smarter greedy" will realize they can best ensure that their own DNA (children/grandchildren/great-grandchildren) enjoy their inherited prosperity only if the planet's resources are still viable for them. BUT THEN, if they believe they'll all be raptured soon.....sigh..
  7:13pm
Matt from Springfield:

Chants have power: Occupy uses them, the police then adopt it, now we need to think of "counter-chanting" to prevail against another's chants.
  7:16pm
david:

I disagree with Lauren here: it's not "feeling what it's like" - it's feeling 1 fingernail worth of institutionalized, historical US oppression
  7:19pm
Marmalade Kitty:

Matt, how about silence.. everyone is absolutely silent for periods, before breaking silence with a chant..?
  7:19pm
kat330:

@david: You're right. But a reality check and "simulation" is still preferable to the alternative path of those privileged middle class kids.
  7:20pm
Caryn:

@kat: yeah, and then there's the group who think that no matter what happens, they'll have enough money to stay protected and comfortable, even if everything else goes all "Soylent Green".
  7:22pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Kitty: That's an idea. Silence, then a strategic burst to start another chant.
  7:23pm
kat330:

@Caryn: Somehow I think THAT contingent is not part of the "smarter greedy" though. Those are the sort that would seal themselves inside their bomb shelters only to discover they forgot a can opener.
  7:23pm
Caryn:

@Matt: good on Janet! I loved the state representative who introduced the "it is illegal for men to dispense of their sperm anywhere else than in a vagina" bill to counter the local "personhood" bill, only to have the white, pudgy GOP rep who introduced the "personhood" bill object, because "that's telling men what they can do with their bodies". Heh!
  7:23pm
david:

the fact that everyone's got an "Occupy should do ______" without even necessarily showing up, shows how much the conversation has shifted. people come TO occupy with their ideas, not the traditional corporate idea-holes
  7:24pm
Caryn:

Wait, December 21 is in August of this year? What? And now he tries to explain in better with "I guess, I think, the 19th, maybe"? Oy.
  7:24pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Caryn: Ha ha, the audacity!
  7:25pm
Matt from Springfield:

@david: Occupy is energy, Occupy at the very least *frees*!
  7:27pm
kat330:

@Caryn: Heh, yeah we saw that on, hm, Colbert Reprt I think. Hysterical turnabout.
  7:28pm
Matt from Springfield:

I'm rushing home--just like the last 2 hr evening one, I should be there in time to catch the end, and comment too!

I'll be back right quick--(zipppppppp!)
  7:29pm
Caryn:

@matt & kat: yeah, it's been on Rachel Maddow and on various blogs, but the Daily Show interview was the best: http://www.thedailyshow.com/watch/wed-april-11-2012/bro-choice
  7:31pm
kat330:

Yes, I guess it was that Daily Show come to think of it. We still don't have cable, but my b'day brought us Roku.
  7:37pm
kat330:

Lots of sanity being said on this show. Hope it's not merely preaching to the choir.
  7:38pm

maybe that's why i don't enjoy these guests, my opposite sign as a leo

Have a good night!
