Listener comments!

  12:03pm dc pat:

let's make rock and roll, baby. I just passed on paying $33 for Hives tickets. Did I do the right thing?
  12:13pm SmokinJ:

Hey Joe!
  12:24pm KevinfromBayRidge:

Hello Joe!
Happy MayDay to all
Avatar 12:29pm Joe B:

Hi Pat, J and Kevin! thanks for tuning in!
Avatar 12:32pm Joe B:

Pat, I would go. Guess you think 33 is too much.
  12:33pm kate:

any know of plans for bare wires to come back here?
  12:35pm tim from Champaign:

Are the Golden Boys and Bare Wires Marked Men related?
  12:38pm tim from Champaign:

Also, Joe, what's the name of that cool band you've been playing from Grand Rapids, MI?
  12:39pm geokopp:

anyone heard the neil & crazy horse 'oh susannah' yet? pretty cool. on youtube.
Avatar 12:39pm Joe B:

George, I was gonna play it off youtube, they just took it down!
  12:40pm Sasha:

Yeah, Unnatural Helpers! My coworker's band!
  12:41pm geokopp:

What? I just watched it a few minutes ago!?
  12:41pm dc pat:

well, that's what I'm not sure about. You don't have to pay much to see great rock. I've seen the Hives and keep swearing off 9:30 (don't like it). $33 isn't that much but it's pushing it for me.
Avatar 12:41pm Joe B:

Tim, Boss Mustangs! comin' right up!
  12:42pm dc pat:

not that I don't think the Hives deserve it, it's more the venue, crowd, popularity, beer prices...
Avatar 12:42pm Joe B:

kate, don't know. I really wanted to see them but their drummer got sick or hurt at SXSW and they canceled rest of their tour
  12:43pm geokopp:

Im still see it Joe:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ei2PVpSKkF4
Avatar 12:43pm Joe B:

@ Tim ... I thought Bare Wires were Bay Area but I could be wrong. marked Men guys are in about 50 different bands (including OBN IIIs, Riverboat Gamblers and more) so could be!
  12:43pm Kurt V:

At union square Wfmu sdtrk to may day
  12:43pm Kurt V:

At union square Wfmu sdtrk to may day
  12:45pm paula pc:

RIP Bare Wires:
http://blogs.sfweekly.com/shookdown/2012/04/oakland_garage-pop_outfit_bare.php
  12:46pm tim from Champaign:

No that clears it up, Joe. I get a little confused with all the Marked Men related bands. They're all so good and have a slight Marked Men signature in their sound. Keep on spinnin the jams!
  12:49pm steve:

lakeside lounge closed???!
  12:52pm SHIMMY:

Hey Joe, Neil appearing with Jonathan Demme on Friday June 8 at 92Y -- screening of some new flick. Just tuned in, so not sure if you know about it! tix still available : http://www.92y.org/Uptown/Event/Neil-Young-with-Jonathan-Demme.aspx
  12:52pm efd:

@paula pc Thanks for the Bare Wires link. Great band, sorry that they've run their course but it sounds like Melton's next band is already in the works.
  12:52pm dc pat:

jeeze no more Bare Wires, "self-induced health-related concern"
  12:53pm KevinfromBayRidge:

yeah, Bellhouse crowds have always been great when I've been there. FYI, I give a Brooklyn style Rebel Yell if I'm encumbered by a beer in hand.
  12:55pm paula pc:

bare wires + lakeside lounge = april was not a good month for straighton ROCK
  12:55pm Parq:

In fairness to the crowds at shows I gotta say, I've been doing the clap-for-an-encore bit, knowing it's just a game, for four decades now and it just gets a little old. I kind of like how Mike Doughty and his cello player don't leave the stage, just turn their backs while the crowd calls them "back out".
  12:56pm paula pc:

@ efd - you're welcome, and I think whatever Melton does next will be great
  1:03pm dc pat:

I only clap if it's good.
  1:07pm Cheri Pi:

Just back from lunch, represent Cincinnati!
Avatar 1:10pm Joe B:

Thanks for the link Paula. Bummer.
Avatar 1:10pm Joe B:

thanks Shimmy!
  1:11pm Cheri Pi:

Long Live Dixie Trash! Long Live Bones (RIP!)
Avatar 1:14pm Joe B:

@ Parq ... Supersuckers do the same thing, all 4 turn around, then play! well, shows I've been to last 3 years crowds have been extra lame in regards to encores, or clapping in general.
  1:14pm Mike East:

Not enough sax in rock n roll these days. Love it!
Avatar 1:15pm Joe B:

Hi Cheri! Cincy will be in the house here in a few weeks!
  1:15pm dc pat:

great sound from these Jigglers. CRAP, I was just about to say the same thing Mike East.
  1:15pm Cheri Pi:

I'm so excited Joe B!!!
Avatar 1:16pm Joe B:

@ DC Pat, I know what you mean ... a venue I am not fired up for can make or break seeing a show for me. For me, Hives dont come around that often anymore so I will probably go see them.
  1:21pm 1mckrs:

Honky sax!!
  1:21pm dc pat:

I loved the old 9:30, the smells, the rats, the unable-to-see-a-fucking-thing-who-put-this-column-heres...it was great.
Avatar 1:23pm Joe B:

Hi Mike East! glad you are digging these cats!
Avatar 1:24pm Joe B:

@ Sasha ... tell your coworker they are great! thanks for listening!
  1:25pm paula pc:

@ joe b -- I agree re: Bare Wires' breakup, but you have the JIGGLERS! Thank you!!!!
  1:28pm mo:

JIGGLERS! yammer! thankyou!!!! you're the worst
the really really worst
  1:29pm dc pat:

man, these guys never leave NY...
Avatar 1:31pm Joe B:

Pat, they did once. They played Jersey City last october at an outdoor festival and it poured!
  1:32pm dc pat:

ha! Guess they did for this recording too.
  1:33pm SHIMMY:

Pat-- i'm sure they can be brought to DC with the promise of some brews and a floor. and the floor is negotiable.
  1:33pm ?:

Lunch break: the Jigglers; Jonathan Richman meets the sax versus Godzilla playin' homage to Rodan, sez me, & my opinion counts, ya' know.
  1:38pm dc pat:

SHIMMY: no way, they should have me up there.
  1:38pm SHIMMY:

you should come up and catch them! (if you can)
  1:41pm MN Guy:

Bit late to the party, just been lurking. Been having major problems streaming radio shows on this laptop
  1:45pm PFFlyer:

MN dude, just use WinAmp and you should be OK at 128K as I do in Woodbury via Century Link.
  1:48pm dc pat:

I was in a fake group once called Jack and the Rippers.
  1:50pm MN Guy:

PFFlyer, that wasn't working either.
Had to do a total reinstall.
  1:50pm dc pat:

Thought the Monsters were saying "Baby, baby, DROP DEAD!"
  1:52pm dc pat:

jeeze this is I Need You. Is this like sampling?
  1:54pm PFFlyer:

@ MN, the internet & computers...the best of times, the worst of times...yet we hang on in the name of Joe Belock & WFMU....a step above what's goin' on at ol' KFA....never mind...
  2:01pm PFFlyer:

a Grant in the pocket, leftovers in the fridge...lost 2 qts of oil in the Plymouth in short order, car won't hook......glasses broke, oxy acetylene lease is up; in short, "The Good, The Bad, and the UGLY!" Life goes on with a bit o' help from the 3 Chord show.
  2:10pm KevinWho:

this Deniz Tek is unusally fon-keh
  2:12pm MD:

BELOCK IS THE ROCK!!!!
  2:23pm SHIMMY:

this new record is sounding pretty good so far...
Avatar 2:24pm Joe B:

i expected the worst! I should have known better!
  2:25pm SHIMMY:

i thought they were going to be really straight readings of the original. but this is pretty great!
  2:25pm geokopp:

ya gotta see the video to Neil's 'susannah' too. Wacky. On youtube. Great track though! thanks Joe!
Avatar 2:26pm Joe B:

thanks to you george! the link I had was taken down. now ... let's get some tour dates!
  2:27pm dc pat:

whoa, phantom tollbooth!
  2:28pm geokopp:

yup!
  2:28pm SHIMMY:

seriously! i've still never seen the real crazy horse. but then again, not sure if the tickets will be less than $150
Avatar 2:30pm Joe B:

well, if they play Jones Beach and those kind of places, scalping will be a piece of cake, under face value.
  2:34pm RC:

Just watched that Neil Young video. Never heard a banjo feedback like that before.
  2:35pm SHIMMY:

OK Joe-- lay the wisdom on me! so the places outside the city "sell out" mostly to scalpers and then they're left with too many tix? what's the best place outside the city for that kind of show? (never been to jones beach)
  2:37pm KevinWho:

that's "the great John Agnello"!
Avatar 2:41pm Joe B:

yes he is great!

shimmy, all those big places are easy to get into ... the Garden, PNC Bank Art Center in Jersey, Jones Beach.
  2:44pm SHIMMY:

never done the floor at the garden but I guess that's the easiest way to go.
  2:49pm geokopp:

I hate PNC. Just needed to get that off my chest.
  2:54pm PNC:

That's cool. I hate the customers, who I prefer to think of as the cattle. Bet you can tell, though. -- Just felt like getting that off my chest. :-)
  2:57pm geokopp:

Ha!
