Street interviews, listener call-ins, vinyl gluttery, sporadic normalcy, original floperas and fiktion, blatant talking over songs, politix, tenderness, and a vague undercurrent of angst. Right up your alley!

That's it for another edition of The Dusty Show. I hope you enjoyed it. I had a good time getting out of the city and talking to people in a rural setting. Though I might not have seen eye-to-eye with some of the interview subjects, they seemed to be good people who were empathetic and concerned for their fellow man. Salt of the Earth.

It looks like The Dusty Show has been renewed for the Summer Season, which is exciting news for me. I believe I am in my sixth year with the show on WFMU, though that hardly seems possible. Time surely flies, doesn't it? YES!

I hope you are still enjoying the show's format. I have dialed back on the OWS coverage a bit, electing to give it more airtime when bigger things are happening. I worry a little that I have become to formulaic with these shows - that I ask too many of the same questions each week. This is something that can happen when you do a program over a long period ... without meaning to, it can become ritualistic and assume its own form without it being the intention of the broadcaster. I will strive to keep it fresh and to try new things as the weeks pass. Please share your thoughts with me on what you like and don't like about the show. I can take it!

dusty@wfmu.org

Musically, it would be easy for me to play my favorite songs, or, to play stuff that's more readily accessible for the listeners. However, I have kind of enjoyed picking out flea market records that I have little knowledge of and sharing them with you. That way we are both hearing something we aren't familiar with. Again... thoughts?

I hope you continue to listen to The Dusty Show when you can. It is a lot of work putting these highly-edited shows together. Of course, it's also a privilige to have the broadcast freedom that WFMU affords a DJ. Lots of fun. I appreciate your continued support and loyalty. Take care and, until next time my friend ...

Ike:

I wonder if Fabio was talking about "The Killing" USA, or the original. Presumably the original. The U.S. remake is all bait-and-switch, stringing along viewers with false promises of resolution and endless red herrings, a la the X-Files' terrible mythology episodes that never went anywhere.

Yes! Since Cecile probably has to go home soon, wish her a Happy Birthday if you haven't already!

Summing up my thoughts on the comments board: the US version of "The Killing" annoys me, because of the wasted potential, the "X Files" mythology was pretty logical until they suddenly introduced that frigging "super soldier" crap near the end, yay for "Mystery Men"!, and seems like a nice flea market in Amercia.

those are too rich for me glenn. i've picked up a bunch of baileys and a couple of sargents at yard sales and auctions this spring from $2.50 - $10. they all clean up nicely and make purty whisper thin shavings

I want to do a Dusty in Paris, but it's hard to do on a vacation if one wants it to be a vacation.

@Clay: Make sure to visit the Belleview neighborhood while you're there. Amazing street art, long history of resistance and activism, beautiful park that will take you up high for amazing vista and it has its own Metro stop.

I'm actually astonished at some of the thinking behind some of the interviewee comments. Some people will believe just about anything.

the best plane i've picked up at a flea market was a miller's falls. if you can find them, they're great planes.

I enjoyed that upstate country tune as well.

"Clay Pigeon: European Vacation"
  6:31pm
Matt from Springfield:

@glenn: I think that reflects what other interviewees have said, and things we've chatted about: for the working class, they've elected left leaning, they've elected right leaning leaders, but their situation never gets better. No matter who's in office, they always end up worse off. Eventually they spin off into either apathy or the Tea Party, if only because the current system doesn't help them anymore.
  6:31pm

Yes Clay if i can be of any help regarding France,
i'll do anything to help you out.

WFMU djs / listeners must be treated with the best manners there is !

OTOH, Game of Thrones is excellent so far. Apparently Clay Pigeon and I have more TV than music in common! :)

;) When I finish posting all my photos, I'll send you a link. Feel free to drop me a line if you want a quick list of what I ended up visiting/seeing/enjoying during my 2 weeks of Choose my own Adventure.

i could tell you some farm accident stories clay. one person was chopped to death by a brush hog that snagged a piece of fence wire wrapped around his boot and pulled him in
  6:33pm
Matt from Springfield:

LOL, totally can see a "Clay Pigeon European Vacation"! One of the few good remake possibilities for that. I would see that, as a movie!!

Thank you, Pierre! You are a good man.

Game of Thrones. I like the little person actor, but I can't recall his name. He's the best thing about Thrones.

Bonjour Pierre! Merci on behalf of all of us WFMU listeners! Just spent 2 weeks in Paris & it was one of the all time best things I've done for myself. Even saw a couple of french musicians: My Lazy Jazz and Arch Woodman. Everyone was soooo lovely and friendly even though I no parlais francais, je suis American idiot in that regard.

Now I feel like Clay should play "Holiday Road" if the European Vacation happens.

@ Clay : i think it's Peter Dincklage in the role of Tyrion Lannister.

@ sfrances : i'm very glad you enjoyed your stay, a shame we didn't meet earlier, i love buying a drink to WFMU listeners across the ocean, trying to get the vibes of the radio crossing the borders. ^^
