Hey ya, Charlie. Planning my musical day. Hope to hear some ondioline, Louis & Bebe Barron, Jean Claude Risset, or anything else similar you can muster.

Howdy charlie and all other explorers. Buckling in for the ride - bumpy or otherwise.

  12:32pm Katya Oddio:

I heart this show so!
  12:33pm northguineahills:

That Delie Derbyshire photo came w/ an Experimental Audio Research 10" I used to have up in my room of my old apt.
  12:33pm Ike:

Ah, Delia Derbyshire! Doctor Who would not have been as great without her contributions. Too bad they didn't keep using that kind of creepy soundtrack in the modern era. The show in its current incarnation has many good qualities, but its incidental music is bombastic, obvious, and dreadful.
  12:34pm don:

way agree, katya! and thanks for the link. get em, charlie!
  12:37pm Katya Oddio:

Agree with you, Ike.
  12:37pm Doug S.:

Daphne Oram = random heap

That is all I have to contribute at the moment. Now back to vacuuming.
  12:38pm Katya Oddio:

I hope People Like Us has that last snippet regarding noise. The wonders she works with samples is right up there with Delia.

Oh wow, I wonder if I still have this µ-Ziq CD (or even maybe cassette) hidden somewhere in my apt. Great stuff.

Hi charlie, and all listeners of the "Micro-Ziq" operating system!

  1:14pm Katya Oddio:

Isn't she a wonder? And her sense of humor! Terry Gilliam animation as an audio art form. PLU is The Queen of Plunderphonics.
  1:15pm Katya Oddio:

Doug, thanks for the giggles and for GDSR. Charlie, thanks for BDN.
  1:17pm Carmichael:

@Doug: Pretty funny, man ....
  1:18pm Matt from Springfield:

@Katya: Vicki/PLU as "the audio Terry Gilliam"--never thought of her that way before! Wonderful description!
  1:19pm Matt from Springfield:

Ironically funny too, that Gilliam was the American in Monty Python, and Vicki was the Brit on WFMU!
  1:20pm Katya Oddio:

Oh yes, Matt! Hadn't thought of the nationalities. Thursday mornings are so much better with Charlie, aren't they?

@Carmichael
Pretty Funny Man sounds like a really lame superhero.

@Katya Oddio
Thank YOU for all the sounds you've delivered to the universe!
  1:28pm Carmichael:

@Doug: The lead singer for Dread Zeppelin (an Elvis impersonator) said that to me when I was good-naturedly heckling him from the floor. It's my go-to line now.
  1:28pm Matt from Springfield:

@Doug: "Pretty Funny Man" is a stoner superhero, smoking joints and laughing at things that are "pretty funny, man!" He frequently tells his own jokes, which are *pretty* funny, but not very.
  1:30pm Matt from Springfield:

@Carm: Dread Zeppelin is awesome--who else thought of mixing Led Zep, reggae and Elvis before!
  1:31pm Katya Oddio:

Only WFMU DJs would tie Françoise Hardy, Benson Orchestra of Chicago, and Mancini into an electronic show. What a poorer place the world would be without WFMU. Looking forward to the documentary. Happy to see the funding is all in place!
  1:36pm Carmichael:

Hey, I've heard CasioKids before. 8 Bit People are also very good.

thankee Charlie - we should do a joint radio show as a one off
  2:00pm Katya Oddio:

Opposite end of the spectrum, and a long favorite, Husker Du's version of "Sunshine Superman." When I went back to New York to dig our record library out of the mud and toxic waste of the 2006 flood, I made a sunshine mix (humble beginning of the sun radio show), because I knew I would be pining for the desert. Blasted it and strangers digging in the mess loved that cover in the mix.
  2:00pm listener james from westwood:
