  6:01am
Chuck:

Howdy! Finally a break from the heat today!
  6:02am
Dave B:

The nose knows
  6:02am
fred von helsing:

lunchtime! d'oh :-/
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:02am
Meghan:

No shit.... ugh. Though, I thought you LIKED this heat!
  6:03am
Chuck:

Todays show should be nothing to sneeze at... hehe...
  6:03am
Chuck:

Heat, yes. Extreme humidity, no.....
  6:04am
Chuck:

The air was so thick yesterday you could cut it with a knife!
  6:08am
Dave B:

I'm curious to see what tracks Meghan picked today
  6:09am
Chuck:

Ah, Dave, always looking for the disgusting angle on any topic.... hehe....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:13am
Meghan:

OH let the puns begin
  6:14am
hamburger:

can anyone expand their nostrils at willl?
  6:15am
Dave B:

Jimmy Durante had an insurance policy on his schnozz for $442,000 bucks

http://gawno.com/2009/06/top-23-insured-celebrity-bodyparts/
  6:15am
Caryn:

I won't turn my nose up at a pun...
  6:16am
Orvan Taurus:

I sense Jimmy Durante in the mix somewhere. Ah, I see Dave B just beat me to his mention....
  6:17am
Chuck:

Among my other talents I can wiggle my nose like a bunny, hamburger. Why do you ask?
  6:17am
Dave B:

ha cha cha cha cha!
  6:18am
Marc in Liverpool:

None of my Storage Wars episodes have synced. Good job there's wifi here.
  6:19am
hamburger:

just curious... it's a useful ability to have when you're in the middle of a serious conversation...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:20am
Meghan:

Hamburger, you mean flare them? I can... but that isn't hard, is it?
  6:21am
hamburger:

yea flare them... wasn't sure if it was like the ear thing
  6:22am
Orvan Taurus:

Flares in the nostrils? Didn't figure anyone would want nasally applied fire....
  6:22am
hamburger:

apparently nosebleeds in japan = arousal
  6:22am
Chuck:

Alas, I don't get much call to use that talent, hamburger. Mostly because I don't consider many conversations to be all that serious. (In fact, most are just BS....)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:23am
Meghan:

I do know that curling your tongue is heretic...
  6:24am
Dave B:

heretic?

I thought it was genetic.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:25am
Meghan:

I meant hereditary
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:25am
Meghan:

stupid spell check.... messing up my word
  6:25am
Chuck:

Yes, but can you flare your nostrils and curl your tongue at the same time?
  6:27am
Dave B:

@Chuck - add cross your eyes to that. And hope your face doesn't get stuck that way
  6:28am
Chuck:

Betcha Mr. Bean could do it!
  6:28am
Caryn:

I keep wondering what's in that missing bit of the Pinocchio picture.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:28am
Meghan:

just did!
  6:30am
Chuck:

Could be something where "parental disgression" is advised, Caryn. hehe....
  6:30am
Caryn:

Just did all three at the same time. I find trying to curl my tongue makes my nostrils flare automatically, so that's nice.
  6:30am
hamburger:

added points for ear wiggling too

triple bonus for attempting it whilst on public transport
  6:31am
Chuck:

Where are all the web cams when we need them!
  6:32am
Caryn:

@Chuck: my thoughts exactly :)
This could become a type of caption contest. E-mail your idea for what's in the missing bit to Meghan and next week, she'll announce the winner. Or don't. Let's not subject her to that.
  6:32am
Dave B:

I wonder if Pinocchio was modeled after the Plague Doctor's mask.
  6:35am
Chuck:

Careful with that, hamburger! Someone could call emergency services for you because they'll think you're having some kind of sezure!
  6:37am
Caryn:

Of course, if you do it on the NYC subway, people will think it's just another day. Seriously, it would be considered downright tame behaviour.
  6:37am
hamburger:

nah... you might even get an empty seat if you do it for long enough
  6:38am
Orvan Taurus:

I'm a bit disappointed in the "cheese" limiting (and not just from growing up in Wisconsin...) I was beginning to think that maybe I'd found my long-sought replacement for the Dr Demento show. Ah, well.

And doesn't public transit have plenty of 'alarmingly interesting' folk anyway, so all that might not even be noticed?
  6:39am
Chuck:

Yet another reason I don't live in the city....
  6:40am
Dave B:

Orvan - some interesting odors in the subway too, which might cause an involuntary nose flare and bugged eye look
  6:42am
Matt from Springfield:

Morning Meghan!!
I missed Julie's show AGAIN! (Trying to wake up in time in mid-week is harder...) but The Church! That's a consolation, thanks! :)
  6:43am
Dave B:

Saw Mum open for the Sugarcubes reunion show in Reykjavik back in 2006
  6:46am
karen:

Meghan,
I just turned up FMU and Bosco has a strange look on his face, standing at the doorway and trying to figure out where your voice is coming from!!Too funny!
  6:47am
Caryn:

Is Bosco's nose twitching? Is he sniffing the air for Meghan?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:47am
Meghan:

I saw the Sugarcubes the first time around.... twice.

Awwwww, Bosco! Here I am!
  6:48am
Dave B:

Ted Knight! Nice find!

ho ho! Hmm Hmm!
  6:48am
Matt from Springfield:

Good to know you were a huge fan of Starfish, Meghan! As I didn't hear of "Nose Dive" either, I checked the original track listing, and it's not one of the 10--so probably a CD bonus track.
  6:49am
Matt from Springfield:

Ted Knight reminds me of a Jim Henson track!
  6:50am
karen:

The nose is twitching and sniffing (always!)
  6:51am
Caryn:

Yay, you can always rely on Hope to make a Crosby joke!
  6:51am
Dave B:

Hope and Durante's respective noses are as about as opposite as you can get.
  6:53am
Matt from Springfield:

This marks your contribution to "Christmas in July" this year--with this heat we're gonna need it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:54am
Meghan:

ha! You are right Matt! In hopes for the cooling down!
  6:54am
Caryn:

Next up, "Ronald The Red Nosed Drunkard".
  6:56am
Matt from Springfield:

Johnny Horton! And then Rudolph drove the British out of New Orleans..
  6:57am
Chuck:

And Sank the Bismark for good measure...
  6:58am
Matt from Springfield:

Ha ha!
  6:59am
Caryn:

Ah, this is why I listen to WFMU! Not your typical radio fare.
  7:00am
Chuck:

"Shocked", Meghan? Really?!
  7:01am
Matt from Springfield:

All the Underwater Theme Parkers are pro-Bosco!
  7:01am
Orvan Taurus:

Your 'RCA Victor' moment, huh?
  7:02am
Chuck:

It's always funny that people talk to their pets like they're little babies....
  7:02am
Dave B:

Cosmic Cow!

I would think MTM would be the thing most people remember Knight for. Do you mean Too Close for Comfort?
  7:04am
thanley:

np
  7:04am
Matt from Springfield:

After MTM, but yes! That is Judge Smalls! Wonder if he's made more recordings.

Now I feel like digging up the Cracked issue with the "Too Close for Comfort" parody...
  7:08am
Dave B:

I saw a dude recently who had a zero cartilage nose.

Cocaine is a helluva drug
  7:11am
Torbjørn:

I'm mostly on WFMU myself, as far as I can see, it's simply the best radio station available.
Still, I'm a sucker for the whole "UK bass music" scene, so I do quite a lot of Rinse FM as well (http://rinse.fm/).
London also has Resonance FM (http://resonancefm.com/), which has a lot of interesting stuff.
They cooperate a lot with the magazine Wire (http://www.thewire.co.uk/), and most of the stuff coming from there is pretty great as well.
Also, obligatory shout-out to my BBC-like semi-governmental broadcaster, NRK (http://nrk.no/tjenester/lyd/).
"NRK folkemusikk" is norwegian traditional folk music, it's usually interesting enough.
"NRK P3 urørt" is supposed to be unsigned and up-and-coming bands, but IMHO the quality of the stuff coming from there is debatable.
Ah, I love radio ..
  7:12am
thanley:

@ dave, was it emil maurer?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:14am
Meghan:

Oh thanks Torbjørn! I will have to check it out!
  7:14am
Caryn:

Ted Knight played the cop guarding Norman Bates at the end of "Psycho".

@Matt: "Hi Guys!" was the only album he made.
  7:15am
Dave B:

heheheeh - nice.
  7:15am
Jefff:

Follow the nose. It always knows!
  7:17am
Matt from Springfield:

@Caryn: Just might have to check that out then!
  7:17am
Dave B:

Ted Knight was also the narrator of Super Friends "Meanwhile at the Hall Of Justice"
  7:18am
Caryn:

@Matt: on sale for 5 bucks: http://www.discogs.com/Ted-Knight-Hi-Guys/release/2973876

You've done it Meghan, somehow, you've made a nose theme work, loving this!

Definitely my favorite song about rhinoplasty.

  7:21am
Jefff:

Best, song, ever!
  7:23am
Caryn:

Interestingly, I had a lot more nose songs I could've suggested, but they were all full of swearing. Why are the nose songs so often profane?
  7:24am
Caryn:

Weezer: recognizable in about 2 chords.
  7:26am
Matt from Springfield:

@Caryn1: Seems to be a hard album to find, so that low priced LP is prob the best bet.
2: The anger element of nose songs maybe? "Stick it up yer nose!!"
3: Weezer has appealed to several generations of teens by sticking with that sound.

Proboscis ? Any words ending in -oscous ?
  7:28am

You may have to go zooilogical with that one, fred....
  7:30am
Dave B:

@Fred - http://www.wordbyletter.com/suffixes/words_finishing_with_iscus.php

the closest I can find
  7:31am
Caryn:

This theme makes me think of Dave Allen's comedy routine about an alternative universe where Adam and Eve, upon eating the fruit from the Tree of Knowledge, become self-conscious not about their genitals but about their noses. Leading to, millenia later, guys in strip clubs watching fully-clothed women remove tiny thongs off their noses. "Oh, I saw a nose!"

Remember where the term "Rule of Thumb" comes from, Meghan?
  7:34am
Orvan Taurus:

Too difficult to consider: epiglottis.
  7:34am
fred von helsing:

Oh but DaveB dat don'rhyme! But it's a cool page. No results for "oscus" or "oscous". Damn...
  7:36am
fred von helsing:

I searched the chatboard and could not find the word BOOGER. What is WRONG with you people ?!?!
  7:37am
Orvan Taurus:

@fred von helsing Good taste?
  7:37am
Dave B:

Fred - that "snot" the theme today
  7:38am
fred von helsing:

@DaveB HAR!!
  7:38am
Chuck:

Seems you've taken care of that yourself, fred! I'll fill in by mentioning SNOT! Feel better now, fred?

I like the "Naughty Songs For Boys & Girls (1975)" because it implies that there are "Naughty Songs For Boys & Girls" for other years
  7:54am
Caryn:

@jeff p: true. I have issues with their definition of "naughty" though. That Polisar track, for instance, had no naughty content to speak of. I demand truth in advertising!
  7:55am
jeff p:

or "Naughty Songs for Men & Women (1975)", tho I bet that involves lots of porn moustaches.

No tongue in the mouth?
  7:58am
Caryn:

I wonder if I could find the clip of the woman talking about her colleague who was allergic to sperm (it made her nose run). If the colleague came to work and her nose started running, she'd go "Okay, who's had sex?" The nose can lead to awkward moments.
  7:58am

Well, you're not Nostrildamus.
