Favoriting October 3, 2012: WARM SODA live set! (31 Days Of October Silent Fundraiser, week 1)

Listen to this show: Pop-up listen Pop-up player!

Oakland's Warm Soda is the latest combo to spring from the glam- and fuzz-soaked brain of Matthew Melton, formerly of Bare Wires and Snake Flower 2. Warm Soda continues along a similar musical path, with catchy guitar riffs and Melton's smooth-punk vocals creating power-pop that's so sticky-sweet it's in danger of being banned by Mayor Bloomberg! Warm Soda is touring the US so check your local listings for a show near you!

This show is part of the WFMU's 31 Days Of October silent fundraiser -- we're giving you a full month of special shows instead of interrupting our on-air programming for a second time this year, but we really need your support to help keep us on the air.

Hi Holly and everyone! Warm Soda are here live in the studio, so it's even more frantic than usual! I'll be reading your comments, but probably not responding much for a bit.

  10:47pm
Holly in NC:

@efd: yes, I've really, really liked everything I've heard by Warm Soda - of course I like Bare Wires, but might actually end up preferring Warm Soda.

Jobriath trivia!
  10:48pm
SteveL:

Gonna have to put in my regular pitch/hope that Warm Soda comes through Fort Wayne, IN (or the other end of the state, for Kat's sake.) That was a very nice set.
  10:54pm
SteveL:

Oh yeah, and Apache Dropout needs to come back through on the out for their next tour. Thank you.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:14pm
efd:

Folks, allow me to remind you that we're conducting a silent fundraiser all month long here at WFMU! We've got tons of special shows lined up, and we're keeping it silent so we don't have to interrupt our on-air programming more than once a year. You can click on the banner at the top of this page to make a pledge - thank you!

Catching the last 45 mins of your show! Show me some zingers!

  11:18pm

  11:19pm

  11:19pm
Holly in NC:

Perhaps not for much longer, Danne... Big Bird meme's blowing up, though! ;-)
  11:22pm

  11:24pm
Holly in NC:

Y'know, I really want to not like Ariel Pink because he comes across as a total dick in interviews, and he's a PFork poster boy ...but, sigh, I really, really do like his music. Old band Holy Shit also.
  11:24pm
max:

if someone finances me a trip to asia i can probably fundraise
  11:26pm

wfmu owns 4 ad right?
  11:26pm
Barkevious Shabazz:

Adult Themes is teriff and funny.
  11:27pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:27pm

if WFMU owned 4AD I don't think we'd have to be fundraising.
  11:29pm

Ah, Moon Duo.
  11:29pm
coolguy:

hi everyone
  11:30pm
Holly in NC:

@Barkevious - If you mean "Mature" I own & enjoy, otherwise there's another lp I need to seek out!
  11:30pm
coolguy:

well if i can somehow get to dirty sexy wednesdays in singapore today and order a few bottles here and there and pretty much do that for about 6 weeks straight i think id bea ble to get 250k for wfmu
  11:31pm
coolguy:

  11:33pm
coolguy:

  11:34pm

  11:34pm

  11:35pm
Danne D:

The champion: Not Me :(

Congrats John!
  11:35pm
john:

I would like to thank the Academy, and all the little people.
  11:37pm
Danne D:

oops
  11:37pm
coolguy:

well we call it a quant fund but in reality its just a refined version of can slim, the system that is, we do abide by a system, new finding of the system right now includes, DORM, ENB, LQD.... old findings or perfect examples are SHW and TJX as well as MO, but my favorite stock is GILD
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:38pm
efd:

safe harbor!
  11:38pm
Holly in NC:

efd, *I* wasn't going to say anything, being the gracious person that I am .. oh wait, never mind, not so gracious, eh? ;-)
  11:39pm
coolguy:

and along with it i think ILMN will also become a 30 billion dolar monster but, my partners rather each focus on their own findings,, of course i have partners i have appointed
  11:40pm
john:

Canslim, as in the thing I can do myself by buying iBD every day and not paying fees? Of course, then I'd have to run the risk of being seen with a copy of Investor's Business Daily.

For the record, I won my other league too, but this one was way harder.
  11:40pm
Holly in NC:

And I like it, because of course I do #zztop
  11:41pm
coolguy:

so , we are in the list bro or what man yeah rock on man
  11:42pm
Danne D:

I gotsa go :( gotta get home. But thanks for a great show EFD :) Congrats again John :) And see you guys next week :)
  11:43pm
john:

Thanks, Danne....it was fun again! Time to start working on next year's draft!
  11:43pm
Aharon:

Hoo boy: I tune in at the tail end and there's baseball and trading talk. My two favorite things!

Congratulations, John. Well played! S'funny you mention CAN SLIM because I try to cross over as much "knowledge" as I can between trading and fantasy baseball. Maybe a few more quotation marks are needed around those.

Danne: we're putting off the inevitable trade. The longer we take, the more players it's gonna involve. 2016 team transplant, here we come.

Thanks as always, Evan.
  11:45pm
Holly in NC:

Yes, 2 Metzs in heavy rotation at same time is disconcerting!
  11:48pm
Holly in NC:

Seriously? The Night Bird?! xo
  11:48pm
coolguy:

ok let me scroll back mom walked in
  11:48pm
john:

I try never to mention can slim if i can possibly avoid it, but there's an endowment i help manage that still has a minor investment in the strategy. I keep asking why. The answer appears to be "because."
  11:50pm
Aharon:

Yeah, but think about the other potential reasons. That's probably the best they could offer, all things considered.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:50pm
efd:

I don't know what you guys are talking about, but that might be just as well.
  11:50pm
Rickwaukee:

tell them you sound exactly like Billy Joel
  11:51pm
john:

Oh, and Aharon--I'm happy to trade you my entire team right now. No reasonable offer refused!

And "because" is totally the best reason for owning something that predicts with 100% accuracy what's going to happen yesterday.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:51pm
efd:

with all due respect to Alison Steele I have no idea where she's getting that Manhattan Transfer vibe.
  11:51pm
coolguy:

out of a universe of 5000 stocks out there, we narrow down criteria,
I also have a separate project to trade the only thing that really does abide by the moving average laws and all the T/A stochastic crap its called the ted spread
  11:52pm
coolguy:

forget i mentioned the can slim
  11:53pm
coolguy:

this is not your IBD 50,,,, DORM isnt on the IBD 50, we buy three months in the money thats our strategy pretty simplle
  11:53pm
john:

Our dog's sleepbarking. Just to change the subject. It's pretty damned adorable.
  11:54pm
Holly in NC:

@john ..aww.... I'm a softy for doggie dreaming
  11:54pm
Droll:

EFD, I don't know what they're talking about either. This must be how other folks feel during music gear geekouts.
  11:56pm
john:

@Holly, it's so adorable. he's snoring, and the barky part is making his midsection bounce.
  11:56pm

john do you have skype
  11:57pm

@John - this is why smart phones & YouTube exist....
  11:57pm
