Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:06pm Mike East:

anyone else find it impossible not to sing along with this Move track, even the instrumental parts?
Avatar 3:07pm BadGuyZero:

Oh WFMU...I haven't visited you in four days. I miss you and your scary elevator.
  3:07pm Cliff:

Sounds like we're missing one of the stereo channels on the web stream. (And yeah, I always sing along to the Move :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:12pm eyenoise:

Oh hostess Terre T, we're thankful for YOU.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:19pm efd:

huh, I hadn't noticed before how BadGuyZero and eyenoise look so much alike.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:20pm Stevel:

Mike East:Were you watching me? The dogs don't seem to mind when I sing along, although I think they're judging me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:20pm Stevel:

edf: kind of a sibling resemblance?
Avatar 🍒 Swag For Life Member 3:20pm Skirkie:

Long Live The Cherry Blossom Clinic
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:21pm Terre T:

@Mike East! Right on-sing along
@BadGuyZero -I know& I miss u already!! Yr like my brutha from anudda mutha! Thx for all yr help
@Eyenoise - and yr my adoptive Fatha! Thx for the great art & everything!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:23pm Mike East:

glad I'm not alone. Let 'em judge, Stevel. Atleast you don't lick your own butt (I'm assuming).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:24pm Stevel:

OK, pretty sure I'm sorry not to have heard Radio Moscow until now. I'll have to catch up.
Avatar 3:28pm herb.nyc:

once again i'm at the public library & forgot to bring my headphones so i could tune in. oops! but if you can judge a band by its name then this playlist is killer! [ ASIDE: while at the library, i'm gonna look at ROLLING STONE magazine, to do an advertisement survey. music ads can be counted on one hand, and in one recent issue, on one (middle) finger!!! ]
Avatar 3:31pm BadGuyZero:

@Terre: I had so much fun last Saturday! Thank you for your hospitality. :)
  3:32pm 3 chord geno:

the hyped2death teenline powerpop comp is aces!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:33pm Stevel:

herb.nyc: It would be difficult to listen to this set in a library, for me anyway. I'm jerking around enough to cause distress amongst the desk mates.
Avatar 🍒 Swag For Life Member 3:35pm Skirkie:

I most definitely have listened to this show in a library.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:36pm Mike East:

I was just talking with someone about how I stopped reading Rolling Stone years ago because the proportion of ads to content got intolerable.
Avatar 3:37pm BadGuyZero:

Add me to the list of CBCers who have gotten their treatment in a public library. I looked like I had happy feet.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:37pm Terre T:

@skirkkie- AKA Gary the Squirrels adoptive dad! Love yr avatar!
@Eyenoise- yeah we gotta get pic like that of us!
@EFD my otha brutha from anudda mutha!!
@Stevel that cz we ALL got WFMU blood running thru our veins
@Cliff-still 1channel? Weird
Avatar 🍒 Swag For Life Member 3:38pm Skirkie:

My compliments to the photographer.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:42pm Terre T:

It's getting tuff for me to post- but thank u so much for pledges and support ! It's so appreciated! <3 u!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:42pm Stevel:

Pretty sure decent music media could make money without becoming top-heavy, ad wise. Still, I'm wondering, is it still possible to do so on paper?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:47pm Stevel:

This set is killing me. Everytime I move to get a beer out of the car (yes, the car) another track grabs me by the brain. If only the dog had thumbs.
  3:51pm Cliff:

Terre - Nope, sounding great now! I guess I just noticed it on the Move track because I've heard it so many times (or maybe it's the cid I took a few hours ago, never can tell...;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:55pm Stevel:

Wait. A band called Jack Ruby, in '74? That was pretty edgy, 11 years after. Dead Kennedys, of course, nailed it just a few years later. Hard to explain how jarring that name was at the time.
  4:01pm Ho Ming:

Taxi boys made me think of another early-80's band called Taxxi that I had forgotten about: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Hhgt09jXVo
  4:05pm Ambergris:

@Mike East - I find MOJO to be the most consistantly readable music mag.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:16pm Stevel:

Were the Testors goth pioneers? (Not an ill-spirited question.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:19pm Stevel:

Seeger to Strangelove segue was OFF THE HOOK!!!

What I really hate to miss on this show are the segues.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:19pm Mike East:

cool, Ambergris. I've heard good things, but never had a barber who carried it. Perhaps I'll pick one up. Thanks.
  4:22pm Stu:

I'm only hearing one channel. The sound comes out of both speakers but I'm only hearing one channel.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:28pm Stevel:

Who came up with the Jean Jeannie riff that started Blockbuster? Mick Ronson or Sweet?
  4:29pm Roadkill:

+Jeez, thanks for cheering me up with this song... B^(
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:30pm eyenoise:

FU Cock Sparrer!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:33pm Stevel:

Hives continue to impress.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:37pm Terre T:

@Roadkill & EYENOISE -haha! But u do realize the guys in Cock Sparrer are way older than u at this point! That's one of my fave themes in songs: these angry young men yelling at the old folks--- eventually having to look back at those tunes AS OLDE guys! I'm lookin at u Pete Townsend, MickJagger,Billy Idol... Cock Sparrer ! I KNOW there's a million more...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:39pm Stevel:

If I were a recording biz guy, I'd push Wyldlife when it starts to warm up. That's a classic party song. (I see people dancing on roofs of cars, but I would suck as a video producer.)
  4:40pm Roadkill:

+Oh, I wasn't really mad. The song was great. It just reminded me that I shouldn't be hopping around to music, I might break something.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:41pm Stevel:

Terre T: It may be coincidence, but, other than Townsend, most of those guys haven't written anything meaningful about growing old. Not hating, just stating.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:51pm Stevel:

I repeat: segue segue segue segue !!!!!!!!!!

Awesome [bowing, once again, in deep respect]
  5:01pm Louise:

Wow, I am feeling so 1978 right now. Thanks for playing all these modern punk bands. Makes me wish CBGB/OMFUG hadn't been turned into a snooty fashionista clothing store. The Bell House is great, but it's still a schlep into Brooklyn.
  5:05pm Ignore Function:

Was someone from The Mummies in Orange Peels?
  5:09pm Listener Jumpy in Brooklyn:

"Jean Jeannie riff" goes back to Bo Diddley.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:16pm Stevel:

It could not have gotten any better than shifting to Les Lininanas right there. Dear GOD @brassrailfw needs to connect with this band. Otherwise, I will drive up to two hours to see them. What's their Twitter tag?

(Pimping two deserving concerns at once!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:17pm Stevel:

Listener Jumpy: Thanks. SWEET and Bowie had it at nearly the same time. Perhaps it was just what hot rockers were into.

Also, how do I not possess any Ettes? Truly I am a fool.
  5:19pm Listener Jumpy in Brooklyn:

Bo Diddley IS rock & roll 101.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:23pm G:

@stevel: i checked that question out in wiki and elsewhere some time back, and according to the footnotes both Bowie and Sweet claim riff coincidence. The two songs were recorded, and charted, at overlapping times (late 72, early 73)...
  5:24pm Ignore Function:

I'm gonna see Warm Soda in a few weeks. Psyched!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:27pm Stevel:

Jumpy: True that.

G: Did anyone care at the time, about possible plagiarism? I used to read Creem Magazine, but I don't recall it showing up as an issue among fans.
Avatar 🍒 5:32pm On the Yazoo:

Boy Howdy !!
Avatar 🍒 Swag For Life Member 5:32pm Paulie B:

Back in my college radio days, whenever I played the Pagans "What's This Shit Called Love," I'd back announce it as "What Does She Call Love?" Mike Hudson slurs the chorus so it's hard to tell the difference.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:34pm Stevel:

Paulie B: You are a master of group hypnosis.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:36pm Stevel:

Terre T & Paulie B: If this is a thank-the-listener/donor show, then I feel very, very gratified that I have made a solid, supportive choice.

Flawless energy.
  5:37pm Listener Jumpy in Brooklyn:

You can't copyright a riff, though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:38pm G:

@Stevel: I recall noticing the similarity at the time, because the two songs were near the top of the UK charts at the time (I lived there, and played enough guitar to play along with the radio and records). But I thought it was just that that's how you did rock (I was pretty young). Fans were much less in touch with each other to debate these things in that era, duh!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:40pm Stevel:

Friend of mine flipped out when he heard The Clash open Guns On The Roof with the Can't Explain riff. So recognizable, so right. I always saw it as a tribute, so it was.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:42pm Stevel:

G: Duh back!!! Yes, trends had a chance to develop before falling under global scrutiny. Gangham Style seemed to flash for 4 weeks. Harlem Shuffle? Maybe two. That's an amazingly fast ripple. It affects how people create.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:43pm Stevel:

FAMINES! HOLY FUCK!
  5:52pm Fredericks:

Playing my record collection, Ms. T.. Wire, Hell, Bags!
Avatar 5:52pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

BadGuyZero / eyenoise - ?? : I think one's DC & one's Marvel - ??...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:53pm G:

Yeah, stevel, and one more point about how isolated music listeners could be back in the day: i was pretty nonplussed at about age ten to realize that all the rock music on the radio had the main beat on the third beat of the 4/4 bar. -- puzzling out why that would be by yourself at age ten is really an unsolvable puzzle... but i kept checking songs for months to see just how much that rhythm pattern was adhered to...
  5:53pm KP:

Very awesome.
Avatar 5:55pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

TerreT: I'm still relatively new Around Here - but I think I like you *even more* after the Pledge-athon! - & how often you can say that about anybody in the general world...
Avatar 5:56pm Dave in PA:

Good Stuff!
Avatar 5:56pm fleep:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:57pm Terre T:

Avatar 5:57pm thermoanaero:

Great set today. As usual, I'll spend the week looking through the playlist and looking up other stuff by some of the artists you've played.
  5:58pm Cliff:

Great show Terre!! :D
