Hello Amanda, james & UM.

James are your proofs coming in electronic form nowadays?
Avatar 12:13pm
glenn:

probably the best sloan song ever.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:15pm
listener james from westwood:

@brian: ~60% of my proofreading and 100% of my copyediting is electronic, pdf for the former, word for the latter
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:19pm
Brian in UK:

@james do they have an expiry date. In our libraries over here, ebooks expire after a certain period so you have to get a wriggle on when reading them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:20pm
Brian in UK:

I am still a papyrus type.

Hi Amanda and everyone in the Nazerian Section. Only here for a few today, as I'm BBQ'ing for staff. Come on over and have a burger.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23pm
listener james from westwood:

the pdfs are actually images of the print book during proofing, but they usu. are sold as e-books after reformatting. generally library loans of e-books here do expire. so you have to get on through them before they turn into e-pumpkins at midnite!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23pm
G:

They do that expiration thing with online textbooks, too. I would *never* buy a physical book that self-destructed after a few weeks, unless I could self-destruct my payment out of their account.

I guess as more reading goes online, competition will cause more copyright owners or their agents (book companies) to offer forever books. Right now, often you are renting not buying, whether or not you realize it at time of purchase...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23pm
Amanda:

I will have a rare burger with onions. That sounds so fun!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:24pm
listener james from westwood:

w00t! kiss, hug, or otherwise greet the chef, as the apron says!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27pm

Just made up a mix tape (well CD)
Avatar 12:27pm
glenn:

physical books may self destruct, but if you drop a 10$ mass market paperback into a lake when you're the the cottage, who gives a shit? dropping a 150$ e reader on the other hand...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27pm
Amanda:

My favorite apron is still the one that says "You no like-a my cooking, I break-a you face!"

@LJfW, aw, that IS nice.
Avatar 12:28pm
glenn:

sorry. at the cottage.
Avatar 12:29pm

I actually wear a chef's outfit, checkered pants and all. From my previous life. Well, they came and rattled my cage, so I'm off.

Hello, Amanda and all. This will likely be my last Scenario for a while, because it's time to move, and beat the bushes for a J-O-B.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:45pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:17pm

Simon, can you take some Friday sick days, at least?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:18pm
pacific standard simon:

That's what I'm thinking, Uncle.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:18pm
Doug Schulkind:

Just saw this at Talking Points Memo:

A suspect in the Boston Marathon bombings has been identified by authorities after analyzing video footage, CNN's John King reported on air Wednesday.

King said he's been told by authorities that video footage from the Lord and Taylor department store and from a local Boston television station has led investigators to believe that they have "clearly identified" the individual who placed one of the explosive devices at the site of the second explosion. The department store on Boylston Street is located near the site of the second explosion. It is unclear if the suspect is in custody.

Gov. Deval Patrick (D-MA) and Boston Mayor Thomas Menino (D) have both been briefed on the situation. King quoted a source who called the development a "game changer."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:20pm
Uncle Michael:

@Simin: Check in on the playlists when you're doing the archival thing...if you can. And you can find me on FB if you'd like.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:20pm
listener james from westwood:

if so, that was lightning swift.
Avatar 1:21pm

Doug: I'm not sure but it may be this www.youtube.com...

My daughter sent this to me last night. It was broadcast on a local station here. A friends father took the pictures from his office.

Cameras are everywhere, these days.
Avatar 1:26pm

@simon You typed it faster than I could. People complain about the privacy issue but those cameras everywhere are helping us. We caught a firebug in L.A. based on security videos.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:27pm
pacific standard simon:

I'm not talking about the music much, today, but I'm enjoying it a lot.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:28pm
listener james from westwood:

gotta jump on a conf. call; thanks muchly for the fine show, amanda!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29pm
Amanda:

I am enjoying all the topical chatter, though I am not talking much about it. <3
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:33pm
Uncle Michael:

I would never turn the sound down on Amanda and say rude things.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:34pm
pacific standard simon:

Heh heh. Every show is Hoof-and-Mouth...
Avatar 1:35pm
fleep:

Half a dozen distractions since the show began, which means this one gets the archive treatment, I'm missing some of the best stuff. Nice voice, Amanda!
Avatar 1:37pm

@UM My plan is to slip mickeys to people on the other comment board on Friday, and haul them into your show.

Amanda, this Meters song says it all. Hi, gang. Uncle Mike, looking forward to it, even though you're going to be competing with Bryce. It's getting harder and harder to find time to listen to all the FMU shows I'd like to hear.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:46pm
pacific standard simon:

BTW, Uncle Michael, I'm allergic to Facebook, but I'll be on the archives -- and I expect you to play my requests. ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:46pm
Amanda:

@Parq -- true that, and what a nice problem to have.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:46pm
Uncle Michael:

I expect the Cubs to win it all this year. So, we have a lot in common.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:47pm
pacific standard simon:

Aaaaaawww!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:48pm
Uncle Michael:

I figure that all things considered, being on when Bryce is on was kind of a best case scenario...just from the standpoint of the content between his show and mine being pretty distinct. I know that many WFMU listeners have ears big enough for both.

@Simon: I'm just funnin' ya. I'm always open to good ideas.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:49pm
pacific standard simon:

Chet! Amanda, I didn't know you had it in you!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:51pm
Amanda:

I would listen to Duane's show all day every day if I could

I'm open to the Cubs meeting the Giants in the NLCS -- I'll go that far with you.
