Hi BGZ! Back in Chicago again - having a good time there?

BadGuyZero:

Hi Matt...having a lovely time here. Once I got here anyway. Lightning almost hit my plane.

Been to shows every night [just got in from one]. I'm here until Friday afternoon. My future holds more shows, record shopping and seeing "Ishtar" on the big screen!

turning volume down so as not to disturb neighbors with your "rock and roll" music

How was your RSD haul, Therese? I'm assuming we'll hear some of it after this Boston tribute set.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:12am
Matt from Springfield:

@Julie: Considerate of you; "rock", and/or "roll" music could drive them crazy.

Hi Therese hi Kiddles,,,Great Start...,:) .where the BU girls at hehe :D

@BGZ: Sounds great! And the 80s flop "Ishtar" on the big screen? :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:13am

Therese always makes out on RSD

BadGuyZero:

@Matt: Yes, THAT "Ishtar." It's actually a pretty decent flick. I don't know why it was so maligned.

Primo choice with Pixies tune. Will cross fingers for Mission of Burma.

Lemonheads yea..!

A friend of mine spared me having to find a copy of that mystery "Side-By-Side" series 7-inch. A store in Denver put labels on the outside of the copies they had letting [warning?] people who the artists on it were.
Avatar 12:23am
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...reminded of Pete Townshend on Letterman - saying:
"Karma's a funny thing. I'm on the road a lot in hotels - & sometimes other people's music's too loud to sleep - so I knock on their door & it's like - *Pete Townshend* says our music's too loud!!"...

- One thing comes out of this anyway: A few Sets on Programs showing the range of great Boston music...

Viva MASS! I, too, thought Ishtar was great. Did anyone ever cover the songs? A possible FMU premium? I wish to buy a blind camel.

Count me as an Ishtar fan as well. Saw it on the big screen last year! not on DVD for some reason.

There was a side by side of the Stooges and someone else doing No Fun. I passed (wasnt the Pistols)
Avatar 12:32am
BadGuyZero:

@Joe: I heard it's being released on blu ray later this year. I haven't been able to find a release date. I'm wondering if it's going to be released by one of those labels that does small runs of DVDs/blu rays that they license from whichever studio holds the home video rights. [like Screen Archives...they released "Bye Bye Birdie" on blu ray in an edition of 3,000 copies].

Avatar 12:35am

It was The Black Keys covering "No Fun" on the b-side. I scored a copy of that. I also got the "Holy Diver" [Dio/Killswitch Engage] and "Highway Star" [Deep Purple/Type O Negative]. I'm still looking for that Danzig/Lemonheads and Doors/X singles from the Side-By-Side series.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:50am
Julie:

May you always be perceived as a team player
Avatar 12:50am
amEdeo:

Iris! Oh the money I spent there yesterday... goodbye food money.
Avatar 12:53am
BadGuyZero:

The store I went to had everything behind the counter. You had to give them a list. Fortunately I had made one; usually I have a mental list and just flip through all the records. So I gave them my phone so they could see my list. About half an hour later the clerk returned with my total. *ugh* I spent more than I intended. It would have been nice to know how much those records were going to be ahead of time so I could have prioritized what I purchased to stay within a set budget.

So long story short...I feel your pain amEdeo.
Avatar 12:54am
KP:

Hello, Therese.
Avatar 12:56am
KP:

The place where Scharpling DJ'd had similar setup. A list with items crossed out. Not crossed out, you could buy it. No prices so I ended up with Built to Spill for $29.
Avatar 12:56am
Droll:

A record store where you don't flip through LPs yourself? You have to know what you want in advance and bring a list? No browsing? Really?
Avatar 12:57am
amEdeo:

oh wow, that is kind of crumbum-y of them. Iris had the records out in crates. Only wound up buying a few RSD specific things, but then I wound up going through the rest of the crates.... and then the dollar ones they put outside. Yep.
Avatar 12:58am
KP:

That was generation records. The Livids played, very good. Of course only the RSD stuff was like that
Avatar 1:00am
KP:

Hit two places. Brian Turner was at Kim's in east village, Tom in west.
Avatar 1:00am
amEdeo:

Wow really, Generation too? Is that just standard RSD protocol? Seems like such a counterintuitive idea to not show prices.
Avatar 1:02am
KP:

No. Kim's was not like that. Revolution Records had a line out door all day.
Avatar 1:06am
KP:

Got the Doors/X. Clear vinyl. Very cool. It was like $6 at Kim's
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:07am
Therese:

In NYC, it seems to be a 50/50 split between the stores that display the special releases and those who have them behind the corner.
Avatar 1:09am
BadGuyZero:

The store I go to in Dallas used to only let five people in the store for the first three hours. When one left another person was let in. I guess enough people complained about because now they have put all the RSD releases in one section and control how many people are in that area at any given time. The store I went to in Denver a couple of years ago had everything in two bins at the front of the store. It was insane. You know those videos they show on the evening news of stores opening for Black Friday? That's exactly what it was like.

I don't necessarily have an issue with a clerk being the only person that can pull your selections. But at least provide a list with prices so we can select what we want while we're waiting in line. Most of the clerks at the store I was at were refusing to assist anyone whose list was on their cellphone. Jerks.
Avatar 1:11am
amEdeo:

Oh yeah. I always forget that Kim's exist. I really shouldn't, but I do... I even had a dream about it once.
Avatar 1:12am
BadGuyZero:

I also went to the Numero Group's pop-up shop in Logan Park. They only had the RSD items released on the label which included a 10-inch and some cassettes that were only available at that pop-up store. A friend in Dallas had asked me to try to get one of the 10-inches for them. Success!
Avatar 1:12am
KP:

Last year on LI, my local place had it all it one big cardboard box. They'd hand the box to you, you'd hand it off. Got what I wanted though. Gene Clark of course.
Avatar 1:13am
amEdeo:

Whoa that is nuts. And yeah, totally nothing wrong with assistance, but no prices is a bit... I don't know.
Avatar 1:15am
KP:

Kim's was cool. I remember it more as video. I just moved into that area. Actually should be drastically downsizing but it was fun.
Avatar 1:15am
Droll:

RSD sounds like an Apple store on new gadget day, or Xmas at a dozen other retailers.

Most retailers have this sort of thing figured out already, are record stores so unaccustomed to customers they resort to filling orders like a burger place?
Avatar 1:15am
amEdeo:

HOLY BISCUITS. IS THIS-- OH MY.
Avatar 1:17am
BadGuyZero:

I acquired 29 RSD releases for myself. That was about 2/3 of what was on my list. I'll be hitting stores this week hoping to find the others.
