that's great! David Grubbs. I always wondered about the lyrics on what I think is the first gastr del sol record. Something about bellows. Good stuff.

Good morning Scott. Seconding what Alan said. David Grubbs was responsible for one sparkling gig experience: playing outside my fave venue then moving inside. I haven't seen him a lot, but he managed to make it immediately real every single time. And I have the utmost respect for him for that, for him

That mention of Bastro took me back... I know I'd seen 'em at least once (25ish years ago?) here in DC. Can't recall the venue. DC Space maybe? I just remember being stupidly happy for a long time.

It's always nice to hear Grubbses that actually have musical talent. (I suspect that D Grubbs must be a semi-distant relative. my old man's a Kentucky grubbs, but from the paducah side of the state.)

@Mike East: I only have something like 30 WFMU tshirts, but they make people think'm a freak. Enjoy
@Chris from DC: That's the best I've ever seen Brotzmann, Joe McPhee just won't let him skate, and Brotzmann responds, it should be great

I'm going for sure. Will you have wheels? If so, there's a new brewery called Tryptich that's pretty decent. It's located on the south end of town. There's also a running marathon which is fun for people watching.

Absolutely agree re the LZep folkie stuff, Scott.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:31am
Irene Trudel:

Aw shucks, Fred! I just do what I do.

Scott, Totally agreed on the folkier side of Led Zeppelin. III is actually my fave of their albums, and parts of VI still hold up for me. It's telling that Robert Plant has now gone mostly to the folky side on recent albums.
Avatar 10:34am
john:

@Tim: Oh, right...the marathon. Always a good vibe. I think I will try to make that gamelan show, too. Maybe donning a WFMU shirt if I can remember to pack one. Thanks for the tips!
Avatar 10:35am
braveness23:

Ditto on the LedZep folk stuff. Although I am also totally enthralled by early live footage. I heard that Robert Plant covered two Low songs on a recent album. Low was absolutely floored by it. I've been meaning to check that out but haven't gotten around to it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:35am

Irene! Thanks for checking in. Yeah I love Led Zep III. I can't say I've really kept up with Mr. Plant's career beyond the Allison Kraus record from a few year's ago.

@Irene: I love snow, but I usually get your premium in August. I save it for the white stuff. I have cherished memories of listening to your premium while crunching snow, to me it's the best way to listen to it
