Had to take a ride out East to North Fork of LI today for various reasons: verdict, it was foggy, quiet, and boring! mainly. Southold. Puts where I live in perspective, I guess. I don't think WFMU reaches that far.

True -- it's what I moved here for.

It was fine, I don't mind. I rarely get out that far east on L.I. but sometimes. Hey Dave, cheers! I know I'm moving to a new apt by Dec. 2nd cause my current place is f..d too many arses and Slime People...tossers. And I can't deal with having an upstairs floor anymore...have crazy cat lady upstairs and she is fecked in der head

I'm in a small garden apt. type complex, ground floor, two floors total, I'm sort of off to my self but place is gone straight down the drain, in many ways, and yeah one person above me in 1 bdrm apt. She is all kinds of nuts.

Bainbridge Island sounds rad. I don't know deek about that part of the USA...never been to Seattle or Portland sadly. I have tons of friends there though, or a good few. I was doing a lot of research on Toronto....that place rules, good record shops, bookstores, etc. some real culture in Toronto. At least so it sounds like.

LovecraftDude888:

I was in Montreal once for a day or two in 1979 and it was.....real cold. On a crap skiing trip with no er, skiing available, weather killed it. Just recall freezing our arses off, eating cheeseburgers and stuff and going into a French/English bookstore. that was all.

Yeah Montreal seemed pretty different and bloody cold but
not much like NYC at all. But I was again, 11 years old. Someone i know tried driving into Toronto city limits earlier this year and had to bail due to traffic jams!! Urghh. I never heard of William Parker but this sounds amazing. My friend knows
Daniel Carter, the downtown jazz and improv dude.
  9:39pm
LovecraftDude888:

Wow don't even know Tim Hortons...we don't have any on LI as far as I know. They tried opening a Denny's in Levittown two years ago and I think it bombed. I read it was dirty nasty and roach infested!

I used to work in the area where that sinkhole formed. I was there during the 2001 Nisqually earthquake, and everyone was amazed the fill underneath Pioneer Square didn't turn to slush. They had to bring a diver in to inspect the ferry dock before we could get home to Bainbridge, another one of those "adds 3-5 hours to the commute" days.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:53pm
pacific standard simon:

Oh, I know we have McDonalds. But we also have several bakeries where I can work, because there's no frozen-pastry-importing Star-fucking-bucks.
  9:56pm
LovecraftDude888:

I once spoke online a few years back to some goth rivethead chick from Pioneer Square and she was out there that's for sure. She claimed she worked as a phlebotomist at some crime lab or hospital or both over there. Oh that MCDs the coup de grace is it's on High School Rd NE!! Nice! That figures.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:57pm

Things have improved since 2001. If I got stuck on the Seattle side, now, I could down a few Maker's Marks at the ferry bar and read my Kindle.

  10:04pm

Yeah the Strand can be annoying esp. these days, but
always really. I was dying that Miriam Linna used to work
there, I had no idea. But that was long before I ever knew about it and was a tyke when punk kicked off! God I'm ready to go get on the plane for Powell's right now! Sounds sick. But first I have to move and stuff...I can't even go to WFMU record fair. boo hoo

I had opp. to buy sealed Thel. Monk Columbia Years box two weeks back...I think I goofed, didn't buy it. Might need to correct that. I'm more of a piano jazz guy, although I dig Miles Davis, C. Parker, Ornette, and Coltrane.

Yeah, the "whammy Bar" is a pitch-changing vibrato device that alters the length of the strings, but is widely referred to as a "tremelo bar." And Yup, Videodrome is a one-of-a--kind classic.

I was utterly dependent on the library growing up. My local branch had all the Zebra albums and at least 5 Golden Earring albums, all of which would be out of reach for another decade. I wouldn't have checked for Haircut 100. If they did it was probably wait-listed.

Yup, uh-huh. When Metal Machine Music first came out, I thought the real hoax was that Lou had released an album of shortwave jamming, which I enjoyed, as "guitar feedback".

Jack-o-lanterns in November? Inconceivable!

I really want to hear the Blowfly live set -- will he be simulcast on one of the off-air streams, or maybe FMA?

I guess the Leonids meteor shower is happening, but the skies here are totally cloudy. The moon is full, anyway, so it'd probably blot out a lot of the show.

I don't think xmas will come to my pad until March, at the rate we're going.... (we also have dia del muerte decorations to put up later this week).

Still waiting to see Comet ISON, which is rising before dawn right now. Probably catch it, if possible, after it swings around the sun and shows after sunset, in December.

Great show, right from the Final Stretch all the way through to the Final Stretch. Spock calculated the Mellotron Quotient for next week's episode, but Scottie says the ship cannot handle it. Until then, he's dead, Jim.

We get good dark here but there's a lot of fog and trees in the way.
