Yay Martha.
  12:11am
Martha:

Hi there! - should warn you, not too much rockin' in store tonight - though I'll do my best -
  12:12am
r in VA:

That's okay. Too tired to rock.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:14am
Santos L Halper:

S'okay Martha. Blue seas, spacey ladies and honeycomb chakras sound like just the ticket.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:19am

And camel heads. I knew there was something missing...

P-90:

Hi Martha! Looking forward to whatever you got.
@Whoever is Still Around: Pseu really wanted a "substantial" board tonight, I'd say we did OK. Gotta keep the big P happy...
  12:24am
Martha:

Thanks for understanding!
Avatar 12:34am
Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Oh, this is lovely; thanks for not rockin' tonight.
  12:37am
Martha:

You're welcome - this is quite nice, from a band that is usually quite noisy as well -
  12:40am
P-90:

"Monster Planet" rocks just fine for me, too
  12:41am
P-90:

Sax: wow!
  12:50am
P-90:

Sure, blame it on the fever
  12:52am
Martha:

Usually I am better able to repress it - and I also don't usually have anything to blame!
Avatar 12:55am

Morning. Monster Planet as the first song of the day... phew.

Greetings Martha.
  1:52am
Martha:

Hi all - thanks again for checking in - and I have no idea what it is a reference to - doesn't show up on a search - maybe Google hasn't heard of it yet?
  1:53am
Verbal to your Name:

I KNEW that was Monty Hall: "I had so much fun playing with those dolphins"
"Ive worked in banks" - Robert Mitchum
Avatar 1:53am
cushion tenderizer:

It seems highly unlikely, even impossible that "fastened to a device behind a tree" is a coincidence.

Fastened to a Device Behind a Tree:

catch me if you can!
  2:02am
jeff-m:

was a NWW song titled that appeared on some comps early on. Was strange to hear a sample saying that is all.
  2:03am
Martha:

Interesting - thanks Jeff!

That was my next question, how cold is it where you are?
  2:12am
P-90:

...just realized, by coincidence, I'm eating dried papaya right now
Avatar 2:12am
incomprehensibly so:

Cold as fucking shit.
Avatar 2:14am
bad fashion accessoriser:

I must say, my fresh papaya is rather dry. Hard to get a good papaya in titanium-white upstate NY
  2:14am
P-90:

It's 19F in New York City, but it seems colder, I'm in a heated building, it feels like the cold is reaching through the walls, know what I mean?
Avatar 2:16am

I live in an attic.

P-90:

Are you near Ithaca, by any chance?
Avatar 2:20am
frozen fish biter:

I'm 45 minutes NW of Albany, about 3 1/2 hours from NYC. I like turning off the heat and climbing under a mountain of covers, plus, that makes my neighbors heaters have to work harder.
Avatar 2:21am
off-brand tire fire:

@Martha, sorry to hear you have been victimized by the bug. Thanks for making it in to entertain us.
  2:24am
P-90:

@Who: 45 mins NORTHWEST of Albany? Jezuz, that's practically Buffalo.
@Martha: Yes, great show tonight, thanks so much for coming in sick to keep us company
  2:25am
Martha:

Thanks! - and though it has been mostly unpleasant I haven't been sick for quite a while (I accomplish this by generally avoiding people) so I can't complain too much - and Jeff M was kind enough to fill in for me last week -
Avatar 2:30am
I don't stink much:

Avoiding people is always my first plan of action....regardless.

I'm in a dying little pit named Johnstown. Far from Buffalo. We have a cool Colonial era graveyard and lots of decrepit glove factories and a brand-spakin-new Super WalMart.
  2:30am
P-90:

I LOVE this.
@Martha: If you have a moment, could you post the year on this?
  2:36am
Martha:

You mean this song that I forgot to hit enter for and so you didn't know what you were hearing until just now? - it was recorded June of this past year - have to say I know nothing about this band except they seem to be a duo - always discover excellent stuff on these KFJC comps -
  2:37am
Martha:

So - did they close down your regular WalMart and leave it standing vacant as they tend to do?
  2:42am
P-90:

@Whoo: I see, the sister city to Glovestown. I asked about Ithaca because it's kind of a poster child for all those towns upstate that once were thriving manufacturing centers, now economically depressed and "decrepit", as you say. And there you are, where thousands of people worked for gtenerations making gloves. Ithaca was National Cash Register, parts of General Electric, and I think Singer Sewing machines. I've been there a few times, but my mental image of it and similar towns upstate comes from Kurt Vonnegut, whose fictionalized version of Ithaca is called Ilium, if you've read his books.
Billy Pilgrim is from there, and Breakfast of Champions takes place there, among others
Avatar 2:44am
untied bond rally:

You guessed it Martha. The old Walmart was opened next to an exsiting Hanaford's under the conditon that it didn't sell food (for Hannaford's sake). So Walmart has humped it down the street leaving the empty hulk of a appendage attached to the Hannaford's. Complete with the ghost image of the name on the front of the old business. Now everyone is happy. Except the two sister towns, Gloversville and Johnstown, delayed the project for years fighing over who should get the tax monies from the new Walmart. It's a real Peyton's Place around here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:46am
children:

Is billy pilgrim from "galapagos"?
  2:47am
P-90:

@ Martha: thanks, you know that track could have been from anywhere in the last 30 years or so, so I was curious.

@Whooda: Sorry, GloversVILLE. Billy P is the protagonist of Slaughterhouse Five.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:48am
coelacanth:

...slaughterhouse five.
  2:49am

Avatar 2:50am
Yamamoto blank stare:

You nailed it P-90. That is exactly what happened here. I have only been in NY for four years but it's impossilble not to know of the misery caused here with leather tanning went overseas. Fulton county has the highest unemployment rate of any NY county, yet was once a thriving boom town where the sky was the limit. I recently saw the average home price was $67K. I couldn't believe my eyes.

I have read a few of Vonnegut's novels, Like them very much.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:50am
coelacanth:

Thanks. I did finally remember that i read that...so far my least favorite Vonnegut book, though still good.

How cold is it where you are? I know Coelacaths thrive in frigid waters

Great stereo soundstaging on this Great Sonic Wave. Another one i"m hearing for the first time.

Thanks everyone for checking in - stay warm! - and don't forget, there's no PO no., just verbal to your name -
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:57am

I'm 1/2 way between Martha & W.D.Ductape,also in an attic. It's frigid,but i am not thriving...Also sick.
- It just didn't suck me in like all his others.(though deadeye dick took 1/2 a book to suck me in)...I think Galapagos is my favorite;Or Slapstick.
