Good almost-afternoon, Amanda and all! Listening thru the iPod today. Anyone else having trouble listening through iTunes today? It's on strike 'round here, it seems....

My iTunes connection is purring gently, but with great purpose.

This TMBG song was inspired by my favorite song of theirs; the second song titled "She Was A Hotel Detective" (They have three songs with that name). Does it add to the conversation? Nah. Just a fun fact I felt like sharing.

Doug Schulkind:

I fell in love with a girl at summer camp in 1976. And she fell in love with me. When camp ended, I went to visit her for the week before school started (ironically, she lived in Pittsburgh). It was a blissful week. Her parents were out of town for much of the visit and it was amazing. We continued our long distance love affair as best we could, but when I came back for another visit during the next school break around Thanksgiving, I knew we were in trouble. She was acting all cool and hanging around with a different crowd and smoking cigarettes. We went over to a friend's house to hang out in the basement. When the Van Halen started pumping, I knew our relationship was finished. It's not that I wasn't willing to work through our differences, but she dumped me anyway.

Ha. I bought this song in rock band just to learn the lyrics. It's, uh... not going well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:25pm
listener james from westwood:

Doug, better to have loved and parted over music, than never to have loved at all. Or to have been sent to an all-boys summer camp. :(
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:25pm
Skirkie:

(Funny?) Story: Me and my brother learned this song on bass and guitar because the guy singing knew the words by heart. When time came to actually perform it, he forgot a verse.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:28pm

"It's time I had some time alone" was how my last ex ended things.

Homer wasn't getting the words wrong, he was improvising
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:32pm
listener james from westwood:

Nah, can't blame those rambunctious rockers for that breakup! Hell, if anything was kismet between us, it was our 80s-heavy musical tastes. Likely it was mostly me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:34pm
Andrew Waterloo:

I just remember the REM song from the credit roll for the movie Flashback.

SO dirty, this CD. SO. DIRTY.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:50pm

Likely the women in that film are looking for one or more 60-minute men.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:52pm

Too bad they were usually 45-minute movies!

My fave exploitation cut is the one with the guy at the go-go bar going "Go, baby, go!" Haven't seen the film, but I always imagine he looks a lot like "Producers"-era Zero Mostel. Sweaty, combed over, in a plaid sport coat, with a cigar and a fistful of $1s.
Avatar 1:11pm
ndbob:

and there's an equally long entry on Old Court Road
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:13pm

Wow, the Wayne Newton is strong with Scott on this cut.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:17pm

But look at it compared to Second Ave in New York: en.wikipedia.org... ... I don't mean to be NY centric, but c'mon: Frank O'Hara wrote one of his greatest poems about 2nd Ave ... :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:18pm

This set is kicking ass.

Steve looks like an imposter to me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:43pm
listener james from westwood:

I always like the glimpses of the mid-70s that I was otherwise too young to appreciate. It's like hearing punk and realizing I was just across the river from such wonderful music, biding my time in NJ as a wee lad, until I was old enough to grok the rawk.
