Too Much Information is the sober hangover after the digital party has run out of memes, apps and schemes. Host Benjamen Walker finds out that, in a world where everyone overshares the truth 140 characters at a time, telling tales might be the most honest thing to do.

should check out the center for investigating reporting vids, they're pretty cool. the term omni-channel marketing is pretty funny

Good to hear you back on the air again, BW. Your music programs are missed.

I guess I am the lone voice here for cameras watching the streets and parks
  11:36am
The Brooklyn Kid:

If I could point out the serveilence cameras are the ones who caught the boston marathon bombers

The "good" NSA cops are full of it, and they know it.

That circus camera story is absurd...how is that claim not challenged?

Can we request a Freedom of Info Act to find out what metadata the govt has on us? If so, the output could be several teleph books thick.
  11:43am
PJ:

Brooklyn Kid: Privacy is vanishing only because we, as a society, choose not to protect it. We could enforce the 4th Amendment, or pass laws to prevent corporations from collecting information on citizens, but many people like you believe these things are unimportant.
  11:44am
The Brooklyn Kid:

@PJ I never said privacy was unimportant
  11:46am
The Brooklyn Kid:

To be honest I'd rather be safe and have little privacy than to be DEAD form a terrorist attack and have total privacy
  11:46am
PJ:

As the former head of the NSA said, "We kill people based on metadata." See http://www.nybooks.com/blogs/nyrblog/2014/may/10/we-kill-people-based-metadata/

Terrorist attacks are extremely rare. You're much more likely to die in a car accident by vast orders of magnitude.

EFF's Privacy Badger is useful, too.

@ike would you like to say that to the families of the 9/11 attack
Avatar 11:50am

Picture I uploaded per FMU's request for surveillance-related images: in front of a place that looks like a home but is an acupuncture and Chinese herbal center, there's a sign with just a simple yin yang symbol, with a small extra sign hung below that says "Smile - you are on surveillance camera." Hm. Balanced and monitored. Harmonitored?

TOR! Are you serious! You know how freaken slow TOR can be!

Heightened emotional approaches to this type of discussion are not helpful or logical. You must remove emotion from the equation.

The Brooklyn Kid:

Terrorists work night and day without REST to find a way to kill us
Avatar 11:52am
░Ī Ҡ ℰ░:

Terrorists are rare. We pay too much attention to them and not enough to other threats that are *much* more likely to kill us.
  11:53am
PJ:

Brooklyn Kid: The ironic thing is that information about the 9/11 attacks was known by the CIA and FBI and was ignored. If current surveillance had been in place then, would anyone have paid more attention?

Man I'm bummed I missed this....or happy, one...
  11:54am
The Brooklyn Kid:

This isnt the 1950's! We live in a digital age where computers and the internet are part of human life.
If you want privacy? Go and live in the woods like the unibomber ted kazinsky
Avatar 11:54am
dc pat:

yeah, really--everyone walking around with murder weapons is way more of a problem than "terrorists"
  11:55am
PJ:

Furthermore, no evidence has been provided by the NSA that any terrorist attacks have been prevented by the collection of metadata on US citizens.
  11:55am
Dean:

I routinely use bad email addresses. I also transmit messages I don't want the government to see as acrostics.
Avatar 11:55am
░╫Kℰ░:

And yet, I agree with TBK about some cameras. Cameras should watch streets and parks. I've been mugged in the past and maybe with more/better cameras, they could have caught the guys. But NO watching private land/homes & corporations need to kept out of it in an IRON-CLAD way.

Thanks for the informative show. I will have to check the archives for it, since I missed the first part, assuming that won't trigger any investigation into the matter.

I agree - good information
  11:57am
The Brooklyn Kid:

@PJ why don't you place blame for 9/11 where it belongs BILL CLINTON! And let's not forget SANDY BURGER who destroyed documents to keep president Clinton blameless when it's his fault
