Favoriting June 10, 2014: Bad Dad
Father's Day is this Sunday, June 15 and I'll be talking about my Dad (pictured in the background as a teenager) tonight on Aerial View. Or the man I THINK is my Dad. According to him, he's not. Which, to me, makes him a Bad Dad. Listen to the show tonight and I'll explain. I'll be joined (on tape) by my sister, Diana, as we discuss our father, the awful "secret" he shared with me back in 1987, the time he tied his namesake, my brother Mario (RIP) to a chair and beat him and the DNA swabs we're about to do that will, hopefully, put this whole "Who's your Daddy?" thing to rest once and for all. And I'll be taking calls about YOUR Dad, too!

dads are always the thorny parent. back then dad was usually the breadwinner and was working his butt off and was the one to fear ('wait til your father gets home!). it was hard to bond.

oh, dear. I'm sorry,Chris.
too bad they didn't have easy DNA tests.

jeebus - your father really shared too much. my mother was an extra-curricular schtupper, too (two that i know of). when one guy died she brought home a couple bags of things to put in the burn barrel. the fire went out and i saw my dad going through the ashes. after he looked and went away i was curious what the fire was about. i saw a couple naked polaroids of my overweight mother. messes you up.

WOW, both of you.

My dad was no prize at all, but we have a very friendly relationship now.

“dads are always the thorny parent.” Unlike moms… Like Norman bates mom… Or Jason Voorhies mom… Or Tony Soprano’s mom… Yup… You nailed dads!

my mother broke a broomstick over my brother's back. we had a good laugh over that

“jake - those are fictional mothers” And they would not resonate in the real world if there were not real world issues being reflected. My dad was great. My mom was great. I have witnessed a lot of horrid moms and dads in my life… You can’t blame “dad” for everything.

he deserves some of mine minor attention nowadays thats the thing .. i think we have to transfere quality time to quantity.. not if you live with them tough.. if you do you have to get along

based on my posts i don't think i am.

and grow together as individuals .. depending if they dont really give a fuck if that would happen with my mom, i know i wouldn't be so happy , so i'm glad she pulls for me and on me ... convenience is bad for health

'why would you let him rent that space n your head?' - excellent.

Chris, you're such a wonderful person, in spite of your father. I applaud you, and your sister Diana, for creating one of the most compelling hours of radio.

Anon (easier this way for tonight):

great show, Chris. You are wonderful. Love your show live or on archive, I listen every wk. My father ( a member of the Catholic Church) hit me a lot and my 9 siblings. Horror story most of the time. Wrote a long, brief history but deleted...it was helpful to write but also too much for this comment section. Just know that I sympathize with you. Your sister Diana is wonderful especially helping with the DNA test- what a good practical idea. I always enjoy hearing you speak of your spouse including how your met and the fun things you do. Seems she loves you a lot from your stories. There can be loving family.
I disowned my father long time ago and it was a relief when he died.
