Sonorhc is Chronos spelled backwards. And this band has a Trifecta of sorts -- it's three albums three decades apart: K'An in 1992, Outrelande in 1982, and Purf in 1972.

It was nice to hear the end is "two and a half hours away". That must make this the "Final Stretch". And remember the call letters do NOT include XHD. Remember: do not say XHD! Not XHD.
Avatar 9:39pm
Dave Mandl:

@Droll: Ah, I should have realized that about Sonorhc. Thanks!

Damn, missed the first half again. Cooking.

Before Ian Anderson made the codpiece mainstream. Hah!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:39pm

Before the Folsom Street Fair, even.
Avatar 10:41pm
Droll:

Ahhh, back when rockers wore a codpiece and stood on one leg while playing flute... We didn't realize how renaissance we were...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:43pm
Andrew Waterloo:

Ian Anderson playing the flute in a yoga position is as iconic as the T. Rex guy in front of the amp, and the Clash guy smashing his bass.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:44pm
Andrew Waterloo:

Then again, the Ian Anderson image may be proof that a man playing flute is a like a dog getting it's ear scratched.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:46pm
pacific standard simon:

By the way, The Firesign Theatre used to do their thing (the fake Shakespeare, mainly) at the L.A. Faire, in the late '60s.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:47pm

This is great fake Quicksilver!
  10:50pm
Carmichael:

I cannot play the flute. I probably can't stand on 1 leg. Let me look in the closet, but i'm sure I don't have a codpiece.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:53pm
Andrew Waterloo:

I do own tights, and I can stand on one leg within limits... I just need someone scratch me ear.

My computer's motherboard got damaged in my move to Sunset Park. Any Brooklynites actually buy new computers in the flesh these days? I just saw some good deals in Bklyn Chinatown (8th Ave.) but some of that stuff could be of, errr, suspicious provenance....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:58pm

I went to the Ren Faire in tights and patchwork doublet, and have played flute, but not at the same time.

@Ike: i bought a shitty Compaq desktop for about 300 bucks, and used my old drive as an external backup. I'm old and don't fully trust cloud-based solutions.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:08pm
pacific standard simon:

I've got tickets for Nick Cave on July 2nd, bought like MONTHS ago. Joy Division just reminded me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:12pm
pacific standard simon:

It's true, you can get an empty portable hard drive case cheap, stick your old hard drive in it, and plug it in to almost anything with a USB socket.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:15pm
Andrew Waterloo:

@PSS I have tickets for Nick Cave on July 31st
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:19pm
Andrew Waterloo:

@PSS yes that is true. As long as you have the right type of case for the hard drive you're using. If it has the big 40pin connector it's IDE
  11:23pm
grassmother:

Yeah man
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:23pm
pacific standard simon:

Details, yes.

I'm impressed by the legs Nick Cave's career has developed. Who woulda thunk it?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:25pm
Andrew Waterloo:

Nice Cave should be a really good show.
  11:31pm
i k e:

@Carm, I hear you on the cloud. Who would store anything in a cloud? It's not very solid. Fortunately my hard drive is fine. Hopefully a friend will recommend a new PCU & mobo etc., I'll get them online, and then maybe I'll have someone assemble it for me. No Compaq, no Dell -- nothing preloaded w/garbage & nonsense.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:36pm
pacific standard simon:

@i k e - Heh, you just named my last two computers. Both with some preloaded shite, easily uninstalled.
  11:38pm
P-90:

@fleep: thanks for the link, I knew Phyllis Patterson, once upon a time, I know all the spicy details not mentioned in the obit. I have many friends who worked with her for years. She did an amazing thing, she started with a little one-day fair held on a village green and built it into a multi-million dollar business. She also learned fast how rich you can get running a non-profit organization. At one point she had a small town's worth of people on her payroll, it was like a big family. Everybody running a Ren Fair anywhere, now and forever, is following the template she created.
Avatar 11:38pm
Droll:

Agreed: A cloud is soft and fluffy, not solid like a hard drive. That's why I stopped using software years ago. I only use firmware or hardware directly. My computer has no social diseases!
  11:41pm
P-90:

pss: True! Nick Cave's longevity (as a performer) is something no one would have predicted when he appeared. It just didn't seem like that kind of thing.
  11:44pm
i k e:

@PSS, I'm on a borrowed old Dell right now. 256 MB of RAM! Slower than a sloth slathered in molasses in January. Still better than my local Internet cafes, where the towers are in cages, and you can't change Firefox from Chinese to English, or plug anything into the USB ports.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:48pm
pacific standard simon:

This started like a Mary Wing DJ bed! :D

@i k e - 256 MB! Hope it's not trying to run an operating system more recent than XP!
Avatar 11:48pm
earrie:

IKE - for 25 bucks you could have twice that in a credit card sized computer with the raspberry pi. Good for a backup/portable system.
  11:49pm
P-90:

@ Ike: may I ask where you are that "you can't change firefox from Chinese to English"(!) at your internet cafe?
Avatar 11:49pm
Droll:

256MB of RAM?! Why, in my day all we had was a shoebox full of punch cards, and let me tell you, if you had small feet you learned to write efficient code real fast!
Avatar 11:52pm

When will we see rollup monitors finally? This staggered planned obsolescence crap is what's really getting old.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:53pm

"Shoebox full of punch cards"! Bet you had proper PUNCHES, though. Why, in my day, we had to punch the little beggars with willow twigs, and we were glad to have 'em!

@Droll Luxury! We used an abacus made out of rocks, uphill, in the snow, both ways.

@Droll: I remember the Stone Age; Basic was really basic, and there was no task you could write a Fortran program for that couldn't be done easier some other way...except maybe "drawing" cute pictures on printout paper with letters, numbers, and spaces.

@P-90, that was Brooklyn Chinatown, 8th Ave. @48th St. Couldn't get the FF menus into English, but at least I got it stop defaulting to Chinese Google. Only $2/hr. though. @PSS, XP indeed, and still slower than a Soviet bread line. BTW a friend tells me I'd need 8 GB for Windows 8. What the hell?! Why is it such a resource hog?! Bleh.
