'Independent' maybe just means you're not owned by some Rupert Murdoch Network - ?! - not that you aren't still Commercial & Corporate - beholden to Sponsors - taking cues from Focus Groups & Charts - nothing to do w/ people who know Music & find out about great stuff that ain't known by the Lowest Common Denominator yet - !! (Steve Jobs: Focus Groups - ?? How could they know about this yet & how cool it is - when I'm just inventing it now - ?!?!...Seemed to work okay for Apple shares...) Yeah - people in The Biz have always wanted to make money - but they also used to Love Music.
...It's the same in this way as everything else - recalled cars, bought-out Electoral Process & Govt. included...

A local musician does periodic tributes to full length albums, with full bands. Some pretty notable musicians play these. He is pretty young and recently got turned on to Big Star's "#1 Record." I guess this station partly sponsors these events. When he brought up doing a tribute to it they didn't think Big Star warranted something like that. He's still trying, I think. On the upside, a nearby theater is showing the Big Star film on July 5, with a Q and A with one of the directors and Holly George Warren. Anyway, thank the airwaves I can get WFMU on the radio, otherwise I'd have to resort to Wi-Fi at home.
