  4:56am
P-90:

@ Jherweg and Kafuka: The last time I was in Italy I spent quite a few hours listening to the radio, and yes it was a little disappointing. A lot of mundane, top-forty type of programming. Jazz restricted to a few hours here and there.
Nothing remotely progressive or free-form...

Schlockmaster:

I dont think DUNE by JODOROWSKI would be the coolest thing you ever saw. All of his films are a mess, kinda like NICHOLAS ROEGs early films or like ZABRISKI POINT is, Im not one to glorify that kind of hippie film making. Those films can be watched out of an art historical aspect and interest, but as filmworks they dont stand up to time like, just for one example, most films from PECKINPAW or even CASSAVETES do. I hope I did make my point understandably, all the best from southern Germany.

Anyway, keep up the good show!

I Hear what you're saying but, I don;t think Jodorowsky had ever assembled a team like that , or had the funding that that production would have had , had it gone forward, We'll never know, But i want to believe it could have been the greatest thing ever.
  5:11am
P-90:

@Schlockmaster: I was very friendly with some of the people in Los Angeles who were hired by Jodorowsky. Funny thing, I've carried essentially the same story the recent documentary tells with me since the seventies. It wasn't quite like Jonathan said, the Hollywood studios didn't turn him down, he HAD backing in Europe and spent six months in pre-production in Paris. Then the backing fell through and production halted just a few weeks before the sets were to be built. People I knew had gone to Paris, swept up by Jodorowsky's enthusiasm,
and were gravely upset, not because they lost a job, but because everyone thought Jodorowsky's Dune movie would be a milestone. I can tell you that it was not going to be like his low-budget, mystical/experimental films, but more like a polished Science Fiction spectacle. It MIGHT have been a mess, but no one involved (including Orson Wells, etc.) thought so...

  5:23am
Schlockmaster:

P90, I can hear you, and I can believe that the crew around Jodoriwski would be enthusiastic and would have thiught that Dune would be the thing... but From where I stand those things that never were, don't count, not even from a what if? perspective. Jodorowski wasnt the man to pull it off. This is the same kinda thinking that wishes for Jack Kirby to have had " finished" the 4th world books, but fotgets that Jack was a starter, an idea man and not a great finisher. analog to Jodorowski: he was a great mystic and write good scripts and books, but he was NOT a great filmmaker.
